Matt is a former police officer who is battling stage 3 cancer. He currently needs $800 to pay the copay for surgery that can potentially save his life.
I’m unemployed right now, so the etsy orders I’m getting are going directly to this fund. Thank you so much to those who ordered! So far, we’ve raised just over $80. We’re close enough to the critical $100, that he may be able to get the surgery before the weekend!!
This $100 is a life saving milestone, but there’s still $700 worth of treatment he’ll need going forward. I made a coupon code to say thank you in advance to anyone willing to order.
Use 20FREEB for 20% off (no minimum) or MATTFUND for 25% ($25 min) at checkout.
Click either coupon code above to go to the shop and click below to go directly to the fundly page.
If you can spare a dollar or two, that’s great, but even just reblogging is a help.
Once again, thank you SO much for reblogging. Even that makes it possible to keep a good guy in this world.
Matt is a former police officer who is battling stage 3 cancer. He currently needs $800 to pay the copay for surgery that can potentially save his life.
Okay, so my friend could have literal life saving surgery as soon as the day after tomorrow. He sold his TV and computer to make up as much of the copay as possible, but he’s still short $100 USD to get the surgery. He still OWES the remaining $700 USD, which the hospital is hounding him for. (It may affect his ability to get further treatment. Health care in the USA is horrific and getting worse pretty soon). I’d love to help with that so he can at least move forward, but right now, that $100 is critical.
He always wanted to be a police officer to help people and achieved it. Sadly, 4 months in and he was no longer able to serve due to cancer. (He’s really sensitive about the type of cancer, so I won’t mention it. Hell, he’s already going to choke me til I’m blue for doing this in the first place, but when someone you care needs you, you do what you have to).
He took a bullet in the leg for the community he loves, STILL STAYED ON THE JOB and is applying to continue with the police, despite his health. I know in his heart, he has hope or he wouldn’t have applied. Unfortunately, a week or so later, he was informed that his condition worsened. He’s been in chemo since. The hospital is far, so tolls and fuel is a struggle as well. I do as much as I can to help with the commuting costs, but it’s more than I can handle.
He’s a wonderful guy who goes out of his way for others. He talks to teens who he’s caught doing wrong instead of just tossing them away like most law enforcement who really doesn’t care about us.
I’m on disability myself and in danger of losing my apartment, but I’m putting any etsy sales I may get towards this (only one so far) and will continue to put others until he can get insurance that will cover his treatment. (I’m glad the bracelet I made for him at least cheered him up).
He’s going to be furious with me if he finds out, but I refuse to just watch him die. Friends don’t just leave friends hanging.
Times are hard for everyone, so it makes sense he doesn’t want to bother people. He’s going to be furious with me for doing this, and many of you will call me an asshole for doing this, but times will be a lot worse for his family and loved ones to watch a light in their lives die a slow, painful death.
Please, please, please consider helping with the first $100. If we can help this week, we can save his life.
He’s a loving person to the core. Hearing him say “I’ve made peace with it” was heartbreaking. I’m not convinced and his tone made it clear that he isn’t either. I’m not giving up on him.
So I don’t usually post this kind of stuff here and I don’t plan on making a habit of this, but one of my close friend’s sister is losing her apartment due to an unfair eviction unless she can pay what her landlord claims she owes them.
My friend is the recovering family member, and without raising this money they’ll both be homeless. He’s trans poc and unemployed, and finding other places to live will be extremely difficult.
Please, please, if you can spare any amount, please consider donating. It’d mean a lot to them and me.

They need to raise $4,200 by september 2nd.
Again, so sorry for posting this here, but there’s little else I can do.
Even if you can’t donate, please reblog this to spread the word. Thank you.
I am compiling books, supplies and resources for art. Buying this way really helps me out, so as I compile, if there's any book, media, supplies or otherwise you would like added, let me know!
Alvin Ailey founded the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre in 1958, “to carry out his vision of a company dedicated to enriching the American modern dance heritage and preserving the uniqueness of the African-American cultural experience.” “Throughout his lifetime, he was awarded numerous distinctions, including the Kennedy Center Honor in 1988 in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to American culture. In 2014, he posthumously received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor, in recognition of his contributions and commitment to civil rights and dance in America.” - Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation (alvinailey.org)
The only colors I used for this gouache rendition of Eric N. Hong’s famous photo of Alvin Ailey are red and green with bit of tint with white paint for the highlights. No black paint was not used in the Pan-African flag background.
The three Pan-African colors on the flag represent: Red: the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry, and shed for liberation; Black: black people whose existence as a nation, though not a nation-state, is affirmed by the existence of the flag; and Green: the abundant natural wealth of Africa.
