Prologue Part 1 - His World turned Upside Down

After a particularly bad argument with Sprout and Vee, Dandy was sent to his room to reflect on his actions over the past years. Dandy, for the first time ever in his life ignores his handlers orders, and sneaks out. While Dandy sneaks through Gardenview’s hallways, he overhears Arthur and Delilah arguing about HIM in the other room.

‘After everything, they sent me to my room over a petty argument that I didn’t even start! How could they!’

Dandy flops onto his bed with a loud thump and sprawls out his limbs against his cotton rainbow blanket.

‘I shouldn’t even be stuck here, I don’t deserve this type of punishment over an stupid argument.. It’s not my fault Sprout doesn’t listen to me and Vee is just a stuck up know it all!’

He clutches his blanket in anger, pondering why everyone seems to be…so…different than before. They used to get along when they were younger, so why could they not now?

Almost like sensing his distress, Pebble jumped onto the bed and curled up beside him, nuzzling him. Dandy gently smiles and rests his hand on top of Pebbs head.

*Whine …whine*

“ Thanks Pebble.”

“No one listens to me anyway, I should just stop trying right?”

*Whine… whine*

“ Yeah you’re right, I AM Dandy, I’m the star of the show! Who doesn’t love me!? Vee and Sprout are probably just jealous because they aren’t a star like I am.”

“….”

“Aww come on don’t look at me like that Pebbs..”

*Whine…whine*

Dandy stares at his ceiling, contemplating what he should do next. On one hand he didn’t want to stay his room for the rest of the day but on the another he didn’t want to disobey his handler’s orders. What if he just….

Left…

Would anyone notice… what was he thinking of course they would notice. He’s Dandy! The star of Gardenview! The star of the show! They would notice if he was sick even before he felt anything off…. But would they notice….

This time?

Without thinking much of it and still filled with his left over anger, he got up from his bed and started heading towards the door. Pebbs clocking what he is going do, leaped from the bed and tried to get in front of Dandy to stop him.

*whine…whine*

“Pebbs, I’m just going out for a little while, I’ll be back in a jiffy.”

*Bark! Bark!*

“Come on Pebbs, I’m just going out to clear my head. Being cramped in this room all day is going to make it worse.”

“Sorry Pebbs,” Dandy says crouching down to pet his dog. “ You can’t follow me, you’ll blow my cover.”

Pebble snarled lightly at him before stepping to the side allowing Dandy to pass.

“Thanks little buddy! Just make sure to cover for me just like old times! I can see if I can sneak a treat for you too!”

Pebbs wagged his tail, happy with his master’s answer, then bounded over to the bed, watching as Dandy quietly slipped through the door, entering the hallway.

Dandy quietly passed through the other toons rooms just in case if some of the workers or handlers were still here somewhere. He made an extra effort to pass by Shrimpo’s room. He could hear him boxing inside, and he was not in the mood to get into a fight right now, especially with Shrimpo. Eventually he made it out of the toon rooms and entered Gardenveiws employee district. Honestly it was quite nerve racking, he had almost never broke the rules. Whenever he didn’t follow the rules, it was always little things, like sneaking Pebbs something extra for dinner or staying up too late with Astro. But never has he ever broken his handlers direct orders, especially when he is currently punished and supposed to be in his room right now. Is this what Connie felt? Gigi? Shrimpo? Is this how they felt when they disobeyed. It felt so awkward and awful but also so so fun! Or maybe that was the adrenaline.

“Are you serious?”

He felt himself almost jump out of his own skin! He searched frantically for where the source of the voice came from. He knew that voice, it was Delilah’s! He felt himself scream internally. It was one of his creators! If she found him out here, out of all people! He… was…DONE FOR! His heart fluttered in a panic as he tried his best to hide behind a desk or something! Anything just anything! But he was in a hallway, there was nothing he could hide with! Her voice it sounded like it came from behind the door to the left of him. He swiftly hid behind the door to make sure she didn’t see him, or his shadow. Strange, she wasnt in her office. Of course… of course she wasn’t in her office the ONE time he decided to break the rules.

“I do agree his behavior cannot continue.”

“So, do I.”

The other voice it sounded like … Arthur.

“ I think we should consider that he is not fit for the role.”

“What!? but he’s been performing perfectly even under pressure.”

“ I know Delilah, but you’ve seen him and his freak outs.”

“Indeed I have, less than professional, However do believe that this situation is under control.”

“ He’s gotten into more verbal fights with Vee and Sprout recently.

Wait were they talking about…him?

“I have also received numerous reports of him bullying and sabotaging other toons.”

“ Arthur, Dandy wouldn’t do that.”

“Exactly..he wouldn’t.”

“What are you implying?”

“ I’m implying that this Dandy is not fit for the role of Dandicus Dancifer.”

“Are you suggesting what I think you’re suggesting?”

“Yes, yes I am.”

“Do you hear yourself? We’ve spent thousand’s of dollars just to make one Toon and you want to just throw one away?”

“That is not what I’m suggesting. There are plenty of uses for a spare Toon. Paper work, labor, whatever we may need!”

“That would not be necessary if his handler had not coddled him. It is an accompany asset. Not a child.”

“Well, it’s too late for that…”

…

“Either way, this fighting with Vee needs to stop.”

“Exactly. What if he acts up in front of guests. It’s only a matter of time.”

“He won’t. I’ll make sure of it.”

“I trust you Delilah, however we should still take this into further consideration.”

“ …”

“Alright…Arthur.”
