I can’t say for sure but it really does sound like they aren’t cooperating with local law enforcement.(do not take this as fact it is only my assumption) That and a mixture of cops being dumb.

Reblogging this again now because DON’T GODDAMN FORGET
As a recovering Capitalism True Believer, and a former aspiring economist… this one hurts.
As a late Capitalism True Believer and an economist, THIS IS IT. Don’t fall for “x country isn’t doing capitalism correctly, so it’s suffering”. It’s not a few bad apples, the roots have always been rotten.
Capitalism is a system we created, consciously or not. If we created, we can change it. People treat it as a force of Nature, but it’s a social construct. We get to decide how society is organized. Are you telling me humans can go to the moon, build quantum computers and pursue gene editing, but we cannot change something we made up???
Never forget:
WE MADE IT, WE CAN CHANGE IT
For a long stretch of time we had UBI because of covid. We had free covid-related healthcare. We had weeks of paid sick leave. We had systems of delivering necessities to high risk people without contact. PCR testing was free and widely avaliable. Covid vaccines were free and uptake was INSANELY high. The government actually did something *for* us for about 2 years, and y'all were so ready to get “back to normal” that y'all applauded Biden for making Trump’s dreamed covid policy (if we tested less, we’d have less cases) the standard. They took away all those good things that helped people out of poverty and made sure they were taken care of. Even after seeing and experiencing all the good that can be done with your tax dollars, you still wanted to go “back to normal” in the middle of a continuing (and worsening if you follow the big data) pandemic? We went from “No one is safe until everyone is safe” with a side of socialism to “mask bans will reduce crime” and “It’s just a cold: you can’t live in fear of a virus” in less than 4 years.
We could have kept making things better, but that would have been effort*.
*that effort is placing a strip of special cloth over your mouth and nose in public, testing when you feel sick, and avoiding others (and masking) if you do get sick. It’s not much effort.
