Current Saskatchewan Roughrider Playoff Picture
Here is the CFL playoff picture as it pertains to the #SaskatchewanRoughriders with 3 games (Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Winnipeg) and 4 games (Calgary, BC) remaining in the regular season! The shocking and dramatic win over Edmonton in Regina today put us in an amazing spot with a very surprising 10 win and 5 loss record!
First off, Saskatchewan is the only team that can catch the Calgary Stampeders for 1st place. If Saskatchewan won all 3 remaining games or won 2 of the 3 including the game against Calgary, they have an outside chance. However, Calgary clinches 1st place in the West with a win over Saskatchewan (in 2 weeks), a tie vs Sask and one other win or tie, or any combination of wins and Sask losses totalling 2.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders clinch 2nd place with any 2 wins, a win vs BC (in 3 weeks), a win and any BC loss, a loss to BC of 3 points or less and one other win, or 2 BC losses (most likely need only 1 win or 1 BC loss, as long as they do not lose to BC by 4 points or more in 3 weeks). They clinch a playoff spot with a win or tie, a loss by Edmonton or Winnipeg, or a loss and a tie or two losses by BC. They clinch a West playoff spot with a win, a loss by Winnipeg and BC, or an Edmonton loss combined with either a loss by Winnipeg or BC.
Edmonton wins 2nd place in the west with 3 wins, 3 Saskatchewan losses, and at least one loss by BC.
BC can win 2nd place with 4 wins, 3 Sask Losses, and at least 1 loss by Winnipeg. They can also win 2nd place with 3 wins, as long as one win is over Saskatchewan by 4 points or more (in 3 weeks), 3 Sask losses, 2 Winnipeg losses, and 1 Edmonton loss.
Winnipeg can win 2nd place with 3 wins and 3 Saskatchewan losses.
Essentially, Edmonton wins any ties that could possibly result in which the winner would win 2nd place. Edmonton would also win if they ended up tied with only Saskatchewan, as doing so would require them to have a better West record at 6 and 4.
Saskatchewan would win a 3-way tie between Winnipeg and BC by virtue of their extra win over Winnipeg
Winnipeg wins a tie with only BC, Saskatchewan wins a tie with only Winnipeg, and Saskatchewan wins a tie with only BC unless BC beats Saskatchewan in 3 weeks by 4 points or more. If they beat Saskatchewan by only exactly 3 points, it's highly unlikely they would win a tie with only Saskatchewan, as they would have to have identical West records, and Saskatchewan has a 55 point edge in West division games point differential.
So there you have it! Saskatchewan has an outside possibility of 1st Place in the West, an extremely high probability of finishing 2nd in the West and getting the home playoff game, and an almost certain probability of making the playoffs, most likely in the West.
