Final Art-

So for my final piece I decided to implement NYC 1980s and abstract expressionism into my piece of art. So for the people I got inspiration from Keith Haring, from our previous lesson. I painted the human figures with the blue radiation making the people and hearts pop a little bit more. Next I decided to use pink and purple to make an abstract image in the background. Using colored pencils, I feel like this made the artwork stand out and look a whole lot better.

Unfortunately my time at St. Bonaventure has come to an end. But I loved my experience here and wouldn’t trade it for the world. I met so many great people and am blessed to be here.

For this week I look up inspiration and just let my brain work. Just doodled what came to my mind and found it very relaxing. Hearts connected to eat other with arms reaching for love!

Art Hw - Feminism -

For this week I found a wrinkle repair beauty ad. For the phrase I chose “Sprung up all over the future”. I created this phrase because when you get older (the future) we all get wrinkles that show(sprung up). I thought it phrase was very fitting. Then I have an older lady in the art smiling and laughing, as well as a statue that doesn’t have wrinkles. The background that I created was grey and blue chain links that also symbolize the infinity symbol that can tie into the ‘wrinkle repair’.

Song relates to feminist movement with the empowering lyrics that is held within the song!

Art HW - Minimalism

This weeks art was a bit challenging for me, I thought I had the perfect basement to get a light shadow. But it turned out it was not even close to that. Used disco lights to contrast color and then an LED light to create the best shadow I could.

For this weeks assignment I took used napkins/paper towels to implement a design for a popcorn box. This idea came to me when I saw a bunch of napkins on the ground all crumbled up. So with the paper towels being the popcorn pieces I drew a popcorn box base and it all came together.

For this week I found A lot of oranges in a basket being repetitive, and a phrase of “Why Not Us”. Meaning why not us, as in getting picked from the grocery store. A bunch of oranges go unpicked and got rotten so the phrase why not us going towards every orange.

A statistic from Florida Super Market is that about 50-60 percent of the oranges go unpicked and get left uneaten. This doesn’t really affect too many people but it does affect the environment and waste of food, it affects people who can’t afford food.

Midterm:

For my art I generated an AI image and then I drew the art with colored pencils. I liked the aspect of generating an image and trying to replicate it. I felt in control drawing and was a very fun assignment. I appreciated the color collision in the background with the AI generation. I appreciated the few shadowing aspects as well making it look a bit more realistic. What I appreciated with my hands was how free they felt when drawing the image, my hands have never felt this lose before when drawing. This was a great experience!

For this weeks art assignment I decided to chose these 2 pieces because of orange and blue background with both having a butterfly in them. In my art I decided to have a bird with butterfly wings to complement the similar theme in both art pieces. For the background they had blue and orange lines so I mixed thick and thin lines together to bring it all together.

My favorite song from this album is Wide Open. I took inspiration from the diamonds in the middle of the original album cover. I wanted to turn the heart into the sun and still do a sunset over the ocean. I used color pencils for everything but the fire above I cut out from a magazine as well as the dolphin and mountain range.

I really like this piece of work Alex! It is a great resemblance of the cover photo! It is truly a great mix of colors coming together, while over looking some mountains! Great work Alex!

The album cover that I designed mine off is the “When we were friends” album by the The Backseat Lovers. My favorite song off this album is Kilby girl. What gave me inspiration from this cover to do my work was the bike on the road. I decided to draw a car on the train tracks. What this meant to me was that people can go on different paths in life. For example, in the original cover they take the bike on the road to signify a new route and growth, similar to mine with the car on the road.

For my complimentary colors I chose purple and yellow. I tried to be random and make it cool still. I chose the head of a wise old head, body of a lemon, arms are wings of a bald eagle, then a brown skirt as the bottom half, finally legs are little shovels. I really enjoyed making this art piece!

This album is called “Treehouse”. A sad song that I found on tiktok. So I altered the cover a little bit, so on right side we have dark grass and blackness taking over just showing that no matter what happens in life there is always greener grass on the other side. The man in the middle of the road picking himself up and running over to the greener side indicating a better life.

Hello, I’m Dan Dollard and this is my first post for ARTH-322. I am a senior at St. Bonaventure majoring in Criminology. I am from Buffalo, NY and enjoy watching sports. I joined this class for some extra credits and am really looking forward to seeing everyone’s work.
