For my final assignment I mixed pop art with feminism. I feel like the two can be combined easily and often are. I went through my magazines looking for women and thought it would be comical to put men in the food and drink. This represents the term “man eater” people use and is just a way to stand against the patriarchy. I also added paint in the background for the pop art. I think it helped make everything stand out and ties it together nicely.
Street Art Homework
I was inspired by the piece on the left from Keith Haring. It celebrates love however I wanted to add a twist to incorporate peace and harmony. I decided to think of the photo of the left as a heart running to see another heart. I chose to draw the two hearts uniting together. They are holding hands and it’s a very simplistic way to represent this message.
The song I chose is Everybody by Madonna
Earth Art
For this assignment I went into my backyard and found a small patch of blue flowers. I then gathered small sticks around the same size and created a diamond. The earliest diamond shapes were seen before the 18th century in polished stones known as “point cuts”. Currently the rhombus is often called a "diamond", after the diamonds suit in playing cards which resembles the projection of an octahedral diamond. This shape holds various spiritual and symbolic meanings in different cultures and traditions. It's often associated with balance, fertility, protection, and the union of opposing forces.
Feminism
For my piece I found an ad for Bio-Oil which works to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. On the ad was the #LoveYourMarks which I found to be ironic since this is a product meant to remove them and shame women for having them. This product is proven to reduce the appearance of all types of marks so why are we using the hashtag #LoveYourMarks. For this reason I found the text ‘We’re Not Changing A Thing’ on a different page and included it in my piece. I thought it was humorous to incorporate it because it goes along with the problem of the original ad. I also tried to do some tiger strips in the background because to some people they can represent stretch marks.
ARTH 322 - Minimalism
For this assignment, I decided to incorporate two items that I feel create a peaceful atmosphere: my sunrise alarm clock and a decorative plant. The alarm clock has the unique feature of being able to change colors, so I positioned it in front of the plant, allowing the light from the clock to cast a shadow onto my wall. This arrangement ended up creating a warm and calming vibe that I really enjoy. As someone who loves plants, having them in my space adds to peaceful energy of the environment.
For the Art Povera assignment I used an energy drink can and poked holes in it trying to mimic this photo of Marilyn Monroe. I also used a phone to shine light into it, making the holes glow. She is a great symbol of vulnerability and beauty. Her face transforms a piece of garbage into something more pleasing to the eye. Monroe’s legacy has been reinterpreted just like this Celsius can. To me this represents that beauty isn’t always found in perfection. It also conveys the idea of this assignment that there is potential to transform anything into art.
The product I chose to include was a ship, specifically a cruise. I found this to be the most repetitive photo in a vacation resort magazine. I chose words to make the cruise seem more appealing and the black background made them pop on the white paper. The blue markers were supposed to represent water but in a more pop fun way.
Many people enjoy cruises for the convenience in seeing many different places at once. Cruises also include a variety of onboard activities for entertainment. Personally I would not enjoy being on a cruise because I get sea sick. I would also be scared of crime on the cruise ship. Unfortunately the crime rates are growing on cruises, and the resort can hide this from the public.
For the digital piece, on the left, I decided to use AI to generate a photo. I typed in “Illustrate a bird on a branch, surrounded by swirling patterns and geometric designs, emphasizing the harmony between nature and abstraction”. I specifically wanted to do a bird because I find them to be beautiful and easy to make abstract. I was extremely happy with the results of AI. It was super easy and fun.
The whole background is made up of oranges from a magazine I cut up. I liked keeping some words in there to keep it interesting. Everything else is just random pages that I cut up that had matching colors. I also decided to add leaves from a magazine and change the underbelly of the bird. I will always prefer to work with my hands over any digital creating and I’m really happy with my work.
The moth in Max’s piece had circles that reminded me of the eyes in Hana’s piece. I chose to combine these two by putting the eyes, the same color as hers, onto the moth which I kept black and white like his. I used only pen for the moth. I also incorporated the colorful drips coming off the eyes from Hana’s piece below the moth. For the background I recreated what Max did but with a color pencil, except I made it look more like blood splatter.
This album is called “Treehouse”. A sad song that I found on tiktok. So I altered the cover a little bit, so on right side we have dark grass and blackness taking over just showing that no matter what happens in life there is always greener grass on the other side. The man in the middle of the road picking himself up and running over to the greener side indicating a better life.

The album cover that I designed mine off is the “When we were friends” album by the The Backseat Lovers. My favorite song off this album is Kilby girl. What gave me inspiration from this cover to do my work was the bike on the road. I decided to draw a car on the train tracks. What this meant to me was that people can go on different paths in life. For example, in the original cover they take the bike on the road to signify a new route and growth, similar to mine with the car on the road.

The complimentary colors I chose for this week are orange and blue. For the face I cut out a cat, the hair is from a type of bird, the outfit was already together and I added the purse. I think choosing different complimentary colors may of made the outfit stand out better however I did the background first.
My favorite song from this album is Wide Open. I took inspiration from the diamonds in the middle of the original album cover. I wanted to turn the heart into the sun and still do a sunset over the ocean. I used color pencils for everything but the fire above I cut out from a magazine as well as the dolphin and mountain range.
Hi, I’m Alex Sullivan and this is my first post for my ARTH-322 class! I am from a town outside of Buffalo, NY called East Amherst. I grew up in a family of five with lots of cats and dogs. I am the middle child, I have an older sister who’s almost done with PA school and a younger brother who is a senior in high school. I took art all throughout high school because it was offered instead of a language. It has always been one of my passions and I am very excited to be in this class. I came to St. Bonaventure majoring in Biology and later switched into Health Science. I am graduating this May as a junior and will be staying here for OT school. Occupational Therapy is a field I learned about last year, and after completing an internship in a rehabilitation center I am certain it’s what I want to pursue. Specifically I want to work in pediatrics.
