Anxiously anticipating autumnal goblin activities with a new (and newly titled) “The Rummagingers” strip. Don’t get imp’d out there, my gobs!
So, I like goblins. Cute and snaggly ones. I’ve been periodically doing little comics about them. Here’s one now! Lock down all of your rummagable schmadoobles!
Who doesn’t like a big sammy? Working on some background elements for my pal Bart Browne’s super cool top secret project!
Worked with Blake Smith, Cassandra Landry, and animator: Derek Salvatore at Chefs Feed to make a little video that accompanies Chef Jamie Bissonnette‘s account of a truly stressful shift in the kitchen! It was super fun to do!
Someone should do a version of this for illustrators.
Illustration of the band Alvvays for the New Yorker.
Future-space mall dwellers!
Another character sketch from Joe Abercrombie’s The First Law series. This one is a Northern gentleman by the name of Logen Ninefingers (aka The Bloody Nine). All I can say about him without ruining anything for you is that he’s sometimes a very decent fellow. Sometimes.
Been re-listening to the fantastic audio versions of Joe Abercrombie’s The First Law series while I work in my studio. Took a break to do a quick drawing of the entertainingly vicious, Ferro Maljinn. If you’ve never given it a read (or listen), give it a shot! It’s a slow burn up to a point, but over the course of the three main books the characters and the world they operate in become so rich with texture and humanity. Loads or surprises and rewards! Give it a go!
Did this portrait of Giorgio Moroder, Italian disco/ electronic music pioneer for the most recent issue of the New Yorker! If there’s a better gig than drawing portraits of cool people while listening to their music, I haven’t found it yet.
Thanks as always for the opportunity!
A recent piece I did for the New Yorker, about the Carnegie Club. Smoke em if you gottem.
David Bowie has been such a tremendous influence on me creatively. He seemed to approach narratives in his music with an honest and relatable simplicity while simultaneously cloaking them in a scintilatingly theatrical veneer. He said in an interview I saw recently that all of his creative endeavors were sort of experiments in communication with the common theme being loneliness, isolation, and the desire to reach out. I feel like he’s so well loved because he presented himself as both otherworldly and intensely human. Giving us mysteries to explore and an assurance that we’re not alone in them.
If only we as entertainers, communicators, and storytellers could all perform so well. Thanks for everything, Bowie.
Here’s a warm up drawing of Tommy Shelby. Are you guys watching Peaky Blinders? You should give it a go! It’s pretty great!
Did this piece featuring John Belushi in Steven Spielberg’s “1941″ for the New Yorker. Thanks as always to the magazine, and my AD Sarah Lloyd!
Here’s another in the series of concept sketches I’ve been working on for my friend’s film.
Oh yeah! She was there too!
Here’s a guy who knows that other guy. They’re both from that thing I didn’t tell you about yet.
