Truthfully, Mateo had already gotten out of the shower by the time Danielle texted her but she wasn’t exactly the fastest at putting on makeup. Being around her with oil smudges on her face and reeking like a mechanic should was one thing but the idea of being without makeup around Danielle was a bit too mortifying for Mateo. She was just about done when she heard the door open, pausing to compose herself when a wide smile spread across her face and struggling not to scoff at herself in the mirror. Focusing on the way she looked meant that she didn’t have to focus on her place and the lack of nice things. She finished up with more impatience than she wanted to think about before leaving her room to actually greet Danielle. “Hey, missed ya’.” // @daniellexellison
Danielle twisted her hands nervously as she waited for Mateo. She had felt much more confident over text. With screens and distance, Mateo couldn’t see the way Danielle flushed, and how the flush only brought out all of her freckles. She didn’t like people seeing her so... vulnerable. She liked to feel tough----she told herself that she was the best over and over to battle out the regular thoughts of the contrary. She schooled her expression into casual nonchalance before Mateo strode into the room, narrowly sparing her ego from any bruising. “Hey,” she replied with a forced confidence. “Nice to see you, too.”
