EVALUATION

Throughout this unit I have utilised the skills that I have developed during the course. I have demonstrated the ability to develop a project proposal and developed my ideas to create an outcome. I have demonstrated a range of practical skills and continued to think creatively to my final work more unique.  

The project required me to create my own final work through research, reflection, and development of work. I have completed this by creating my installation and video animation. I have gained a broad range of knowledge through the various research such as frame by frame animation, isometric grid, rotoscoping, mental health and many more. This information has helped me construct my final piece especially the grid as that can create a mock up of what my installation should look like. I didn’t have enough to finish the installation for the deadline so in the future I will construct my final design quicker giving me a larger time to build and complete my installation.

The use of Tumblr for my blogging my work was useful because it allowed me to share digital work quicker and efferently saving paper because I didn’t need to print work for a sketchbook. This sustainability is useful and is necessary to use in the future.

Going to exhibitions in person gave me a better understanding of how my final piece should look in the end of year show. This is because I am immersed in the artist’s work, and I have projected that in my work by thoroughly planning what my exhibition piece is. One of the main types of research for my video was blaster blaster dot shooter. That bitmap effect was crucial because I constructed a visual pleasing style that gave a gloomy tone and helped me tell my story. The frame-by-frame animation allowed me to give practical feeling to the video showing my creativity as a designer. In my future I want to continue to video edit and as I do, I will continue co cultivate on those skills to create more refine pieces of video animations. This so I build a strong portfolio so that I can collaborate with future artist. I have learnt it is important to get all the skills in education because the clients would be more impressed if I range of skills as a designer.

Throughout this project I have a stronger understanding of the design industry since I worked with clients. With springhouse they were unreliable. In the future when working I will keep in constant communication with them, so they don’t forget about.

Main challenges I faced was creating installation, I am not builder, so I wanted to come out of my comfort zone. Buying wood was expensive so to overcome that challenge I used wood already used from my seniors.

I reflected throughout this project especially on problem solving and ethics. I have done this in detail as I studied many aspects where I can strengthen my design. This reflection has influenced my mind to make a better design. For example, after my first video edited, it was through reflection that I realised problem people might have low attentions span or deaf therefore, I was able to add text to make the video not only more engaging but more disability friendly.

I haven’t used as much visual language as I wanted to. I mostly used the word ‘demonstrated’ since I have used a range of skills and demonstrated them throughout this project in my Tumblr. Even though I have clearly developed throughout the project specifically in my final sketches for the installation, but I haven’t used the word ‘developed’ in my reflection. To combat this however, it is obvious if you look through.

I have created a dark story about tins being abused by the game ‘hit the tins.’  I intended this story to make people think about the harsh realities of life and determine their own interpretation from these tins experience. If I had another change, I would create a VR to simulate the daily life as you as the tins, this is because I believe people will not be sympathetic towards the tins so if I make VR that first person intensity will show them to be empathetic as they had a taste of what the tins feel.

In this project to be patient. Rushing will only make messy and unprofessional work and a designer I must always make high standard work. I have learnt to use physical skills and digital skills and combine them in my video effect. That will make a stronger designer that stand out. In the future I will continue to take advantage of physical skills and try put that in video editing for example creating a physical collage and animating it digitally.

They used planks to create the frame and MDF sheet to have that sign insert art here. I will do that for my design as the MDF sheet are strong enough to hold the tv and the tins.

This is an installation piece that tells me a story. I believe this piece is about a family and their daily life. Using inspiration from this piece I need to make sure when audience see my piece without any context they can create a story from it rather than being confused.

HND EXHIBITION: ETHICS

The HND group proposal was about sustainability. Therefore, all their work is sustainable or links to that. 

I will take inspiration from their choices and apply it to my project so that my work is as sustainable as possible.

HND Exhibition

Reflection - Since I am going HND next year it is important I attend there exhibition to understand the standard that I must have next year.

I was a bit disappointed they was still building when I arrived on the correct time they announced. I will need to look at my time management and make sure I am prepared to have my final installation is finish before the announced time so our end of year show looks professional.

This is an improvement as I am being inclusive with those with disability and I am not having bland blank sections. 

Also I changed the size to 4x3 because that is the size of the tv. 

I also added extra seconds at the end because is shows how the tins are breaking emotionally in their thought and the audience witness that live.

Returning to the frame by frame animation I created a bunch of key words that will play in the video. The brush effect from the festival poster is replicated as I used a marker. However, the a marker is smooth as I want a the words to represent the tins so the words should be smooth.

ETHICS - By using words I am able to portray my message to people that can’t hear they can read instead. Therefore, I carefully used words that they can get the message that these tins are in pain.

I research into festivals since that hit the tins is a festival game. 

I really like the sketchy chalk design as that creates as scratchy texture to the poster. I will use that marker effect as it reminds me of frame by frame animation. 

Also having hand drawn elements in my poster it creates this childish feeling as if this tins are children, which links to them being innocent as children are usually linked to innocence.

I have used the bitmap effect to construct this final animation. As mentioned in my bitmap experiment I wanted the imagery to be less recognisable so I used turbulent displace in after effects to make the faces of people wobbly. Also based of my freedom poster of the guy in jail cell I added noise. I also added colorama which made this grey effect. Although this kind of loses the bit map effect, it makes up with the the white blank screen that links to my theme of purity.

Reflecting on this I want to add bits in between the blank screen since the blank screen can lose the audience interest as those bit are quite long. Ethics - A lot of people have low attention span so I created a short video to suit their appetite but the blank screen might make them lose interest anyway.

I created a storyboard for my animation. This is so I know how to lay out the work in after effects making my editing experience more smoother and quicker.

Just to solidify my stance I researched into fair use and realising what is and isn’t plagiarism.

ETHICS: Consent

For my video I am using youtube videos and editing them. Therefore, I need to understand consent when approaching this. I will edit the videos to the utmost that it wouldn’t be recognisable by the original creators therefore they will not sue since realistically they wouldn’t respond if I ask them if I can use there work.

Since I will be cutting audio and just using visuals I think i’ll be ok.

Based of my talk about installation I further looked into how to install my installation.

Thanks to video I know that it is important I arrange my installation to show the audience what I want them to see first and/or what not see. 

I was worried that the back of my installation is too bare so I plan to have in a corner near a wall prevent people to walk behind it but, the can also see from they side. ETHICS - I considered other people and since a lot of their work will be on the wall I purposely choose a corner since there will be a bent in the wall and no one’s posters will be in the bent. This shows I am being fair and equal with my design.

This is a physical representation of how I want the design to be laid out. My installation will be in the middle so people will walk around. I need to make sure people get that full experience as the walk around my installation.
