“Not him anymore?” Danny tilted his head in confusion, frowning with worry at the way her smile just fell of her features with such ease. Just then, curiosity stopped being a priority for him, and there was nothing but concern for the female; he knew too well that there was more of the story than what she’d just told. “Can’t say I don’t agree with you on that,” Daniel said in response to what Evelyn said about everyone being crazy. He knew he had a bit of that in himself as well, and was too scared of it to admit it, but he was well aware of that.
“Well, I hope my positivity sticks around. You can use some now with the baby and all that, I remember how my mom used to get when my little sister was on the way, and I was like... five. That’s how memorable it was,” Danny added, raising an eyebrow, he couldn’t help his chuckle but it only lasted a second, only until Evelyn mentioned Clea. She didn’t even have to say her name to bring her back to the top of his mind. He shook his head and rubbed his temples, it was driving him crazy for some reason, and he hadn’t quite discovered why it was just yet. “I do, yeah. I miss her.” He paused. “The thing is... I don’t know what I miss, which part of it, of us. I miss her, us as teenagers, not worrying about a fucking thing; I miss her when I found her, she was broken- right after Adam and... you know,” he lowered his voice and head, not really wanting to mention Kyle’s name in the conversation. “But I felt like... I could make her smile, like I could... help her get back on her feet, and I did, and then fucking Adam-” Daniel took a deep breath. “I’m just starting to think I miss moments more than I miss her,” he said, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Don’t get me wrong, I’ve learned to love her through everything, I’m sure I still love her as I am sure of my name, but... I don’t know, it’s hard. I’m sorry,” he laughed embarrassed, shaking his hand as if he could change the focus of the conversation that way.
“Miami? Really, never?” Daniel raised his eyebrows in surprise. “You really come down one day. It’s warm all year round, the beach is- the ocean is also warm, not like fucking California,” he said with fake anger, scrunching his nose. “My dad- well, step-dad, he’s like... a CEO of some thing that’s run in his family for years, he married my mom when I was four, and we just moved into this.. huge white house by the shore. The kitchen is huge, kinda looks like this one, but if this was home, my mama would have half of the table covered in food,” he said, clearly imagining the setting. “You should come one day, relax. There are enough rooms in that house to get lost in them.”
