Final stitched illustrations
Working on my last piece for the stitched illustrations in the sun!
Experimenting with the ways in which I could present my illustrations.
I think that the embroidery hoops presented on a white background look the most effective. However I will have to order bigger hoops so that the entire illustration is visible.
This was an experimental piece where I wanted to see what effect I could create by layering up different types of materials. Although it gave the piece more texture, I felt that it also made the overall appearance look to rough.
Thought I would try out a sewing machine so that I could compare the outcome to that of the hand stitched one. I found that it took a lot less time to complete the illustrations, however it was more difficult to create the intricate details. Therefore, I think that I may have to combine both techniques in my illustrations.
Experimenting with the hand stitched technique that I found on pinterest.

Found these really cool hand stitched illustrations; I liked the way that they were kept actually in the embroidery hoops.
These have given me a few more ideas about how to create my illustrations; I could use textured wallpaper rather than cloth to stitch my designs.
IDEA! or I could even use handkerchiefs to put my designs onto, which would also keep the traditional touch to the illustrations.
I found these while searching through pinterest and fell in love with them. I feel like this technique would work really nicely with the BFG illustrations. It could bring in a touch of tradition but with a contemporary feel.
I really like the dimension of these images and feel like I could possibly take a similar approach when it comes to creating my own illustrations.
Just some of Quentin Blake’s illustrations.
