“Yeah, but I feel like the big potted red fuckers should be obvious.” Oh well. One embarrassment wouldn’t kill him. “Well, Ms. Expert, I’ll have you know that I definitely know what sunflowers and roses are, so I think I’m set.”

“That’d be lovely,” she said with a smile. “I could use a buddy while I’m trying to figure out where everything is.”
Danny managed a polite grin. “Yeah? I’m not much of one, I haven’t been around long myself.”
“Sorry to interrupt, but do you know where I could find the closest grocery store? My sister has not been taking care of herself properly and I want to restock before she gets home.”
“Yeah, actually. Headed there myself.” Even though he didn’t want to and hated grocery shopping slightly more than a lot of other stuff. “I can walk you if you want.”

“I don’t know, but not like one of these. I think I thought they were those Christmas flowers? I have no clue.”
She laughed a little. “Those are Poinsettias. Unless you mean Amaryllis. Regardless, it was a good guess.”
“Fuck,” he breathed, shaking his head and laughing to himself. Poinsettias. “Nope. Meant the first one. Don’t know how I can fuck up flowers so badly...”

“Alright, the main thing you gotta know is that they barely have a sign, so watch close,” Danny warned, starting off. “And I’m Danny.”
“Hey! Yeah you, could you point me in the direction of the nearest takeaway place?”
“There’s a Chinese place down the road that I’ve been living off of, if you’re hungry now. That’s where I’m headed.”

She snorted. “Prickly bitches need love too.” She ran a hand through her hair. “Right. It’s a hydrangea.”
Danny couldn’t help but chuckle. “True,” he answered. “Oh, for real? I...Thought those were a different thing, for some reason.”

“All they need is a little love and attention. I promise you it’s not that hard.”
“It’s very hard to love a cactus, they’re prickly bitches.” Much like himself. “But. I will do my best with this one. I think I like it better.”

Avery shuddered, hoping she’d never have to run into his mother. She chuckled, “Just wear shoes with really go tread. It helps to prevent the falling. The layers help to if you do happen to fall. More cushioning.”
He noticed the shudder and shrugged. It’s why she sent him. Baby face meant people trusted him. “Yeah, guess I’m gonna have to invest in boots.” Which was fine enough, but still. “Which should be fun, I’ve never owned boots that work in snow.”

“That’s not creepy at all.” Avery laughed, not sure how to feel about being scouted for some unknown reason. “I don’t think it’ll be as bad as you think. It’s the cold that’ll be hard to get used to. The crystals will be just an after thought.”
“Yeah, she’s even more...that...in person,” he replied. But, she paid for him to live so he could look past it. Danny chuckled. “I dunno. I think I’m gonna handle falling and busting my ass worse than the cold. At least with the cold I can wear layers.”

“I was gonna say hey, but you beat me to it. In your own way, obviously.” He wasn’t phased by the slightly defensive tone. “Ever been to one of these things before?”
Danny just hummed. Fair enough. “Nope. Thought they were mostly church things, but I didn’t feel like making food for myself today.”

Angel laughed lightly. “I have my ways. My plants are my life, so I make sure they can survive any type of weather.”
He let himself look impressed. It was the least he could do. “Well, you must be pretty good at it. I can barely keep a cactus alive.”
Angel was walking around town, flower basket in hand. She really needed to promote her business, and since she owned nothing but her small home and greenhouse, she knew no one even knew what her business was unless she put herself out there to them personally. As she walked, she gently handed out fresh flowers. “Want one? I grew them myself.”
Danny didn’t quite know what to do with the offer. He wasn’t exactly a flower guy, but he also didn’t feel quite so bratty as usual. Fighting the very typical urge of his to just be rude, he took the flower she was handing to him. “Um. Thanks? How’d you get stuff to grow when it’s so cold up here?”

“Are you an aggressive drunk or something?”
Danny shrugged. “Depends. Today’s not my best day so I’m playing it safe.” Of course, if he did start a fight, it might make this thing more entertaining.

“Oh, so mysterious. What do you have to scout for in these places?” Her interested was peaked for why Rosendale would be on that list. “You’ll just have to wait and see. It’s one thing for me to just describe it, and a complete other for you to see it for yourself.”
“Not mysterious, I’m just bad at explaining the shit she does. And this one is just watching to see what the people are like.” His mom’s work always revolved around people, though what she did was never actually clear to him. “Well, I’ve seen it on tv, it looks pretty enough. I’ve just got to see if I can handle literal ice crystals being on everything.”

Brooks face scrunched up, “Of all the drinks in the world to get, you got milk?”
“If I go for the Russian shit, I’m gonna be more likely to start a fight. So we’re going with Bailey’s.”
