Time for a rant.
So, I’ve not yet ranted on this page.
You all know Ive just gotten a job in Gamestop. The reason for this is to work and save, to earn money to afford college next year, the course I was offered and deferred for financial reasons.
I’m going to be blunt. We’re broke. We’re all on social welfare, we all have bills, debts, loans, and other shit going on. Tensions are high. Mams job is ending, my stepdads work is at a crawl, and the social welfare support is low, and going to become lower.
Now, over the summer I worked (you may remember the strawberry cart). I saved all I earned, and my sister worked days I didn’t work. She didn’t save.
My sister got offered college, hairdressing, which is costing over €1000 to pay in the first few weeks. We simply can’t do that without borrowing.
Now, I finished school 4 years ago. I spent those 4 years trying to get to college, and getting knocked back. Now I’ve been offered my place and I am forcing myself to wait a 5th year to afford it. My sister, however, was not advised to even wait a year so money could be earned and saved. Instead, its all go to ensure she gets there. My sister, by the way, just turned 17 and is not even remotely mature enough yet. She shouldn’t be going to college yet. But as I said, it’s all go for her to get in.
Back to the summer work. Clare knew she might get a college offer and didn’t save. I saved. And I kindly offered my saved money to my mother in aid of the college fees. It was taken reluctantly.
What’s annoying is how it seems to be that I’m the only one that is deemed okay to sacrifice and wait for college, that my child sister cannot wait, work, and save so we’re not in debt for the next long while.
