“Do for one what you wish you could do for everyone.”

I heard those words from prominent speakers like Andy Stanley and Craig Groeschel. They’ve really inspired me to get rid of excuses and do what I can for who I can.

So often we get caught up with what we can’t do that we pass on all the amazing opportunities God has placed for us to do right before us.

As a church, we decided that we would do what we could do to bless one, or two, or three families with a Box of Love. We ended up with four families throughout three neighborhoods who reached out to us and needed the help.

We purchased all the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal. Complete with rice, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans, corn, and of course you can’t forget the turkey.

We were able to bless four families with the Boxes of Love. All four families were super grateful for the supplies. And, not only did we drop off the food, but were also able to pray with each family.

What a joy to be able to help some families out this Thanksgiving.

We’ve had such a busy summer so far! It’s been a jammed pack couple of months for sure. One of the things we really enjoy doing is being a part of all these local community events where we set up a table and give away cold water, granola bars, and put temporary tattoos on kids.

Not only is it a simple way to love and serve our community, but it’s also an opportunity to be present and get to talk to some of our neighbors. From these conversations we can tell them a little more about the church, answer their questions, and invite them to join us on a Sunday.

Getting Started With Blogging

Starting a new series of posts which will highlight some of what Im learning these days. I truly enjoy learning. And I get my information through various mediums. Be it a good book, a blog, a podcast, YouTube, or even a movie!

I want to share some of these learnings with you all and I hope some of it may be helpful for you. Today I heard a great podcast from Michael Hyatt where he spoke about 8 steps to have a successful blog. I just want to share his top four which I think will be helpful to anyone who wants to get started in blogging.

Now these may seem elementary but I think it will be super helpful. Here they go:

1. Determine your blog’s focus.

What will your blog be about? Will you focus on a hobby, an interest, a specific topic? Get started by thinking through what will your blog’s focus.

2. Select a service.

Michael Hyatt lists some great resources in regards to what service to choose. He highly recommends Wordpress. But there are many other avenues to explore including Tumblr, Blogger, and Medium.

3. Set up your blog.

Many get stuck on prep and never take the action step of getting started. Go ahead and get your feet wet and get started! How do you want the layout? There are different resources out there depending on the style you wish to have. Most of these blog sites also have different layouts that you can choose.

4. Write your first post.

Michaels suggests to keep your first one short and sweet. He recommends somewhere around 500 words or less. This may seem like a daunting task if you’re not used to writing. But this is an area you can grow in. Go ahead and do it and give it a try. The more you do it the better you will become. Another piece of advice I’d give is to invite feedback. Allow a friend or family member read the blog and give you some constructive critique.
