“I was acting stupid?” Eden raised her eyebrows, shaking her head at the other girl. “Are you always this rude? I don’t think there’s any need to be so unpleasant as soon as you meet someone.” She shrugged, not really one to dwell on bad experiences, and so far, ‘Puckerman’ wasn’t the most pleasant experience. “I’m assuming you’ve lived in Lima your whole life, if your bitterness is anything to go by? Maybe you could help me find something fun to do? I don’t really know anyone except the twins, Austin and Fiona, it’d be nice to get your expertise.”

“Well you were the one panicking about getting in trouble for sitting on a wall,” Daphne pointed out. Daphne didn’t answer to the ‘rude’ comment, she just smiled knowingly and shook her head in amusement. This girl was definitely new here. “God. You must be bored if those four are the only people you know so far,” Daphne said sympathetically. “That depends on what exactly you like to do for fun. I mean I don’t know how much I’d be able to help you if your idea of fun mostly consists of parent approved activities.”

Brooks grinned in relief when he saw that it wasn’t anyone he needed to worry about. Especially if she was doing the exact same thing that he was. “I think he went over there somewhere… Here, I’ll come with ya.” He grinned, holding out the spliff he’d been smoking so she could have a drag of that in the meantime. “Sorry…. my parents have been on my ass about this stuff recently, I’ve gotta be pretty careful about who sees what.”

Daphne took the offer with a wicked smile “Don’t mind if I do,” she said under her breath. Daphne rolled it around between her fingers before taking a hit. She blew out the smoke away from them as Brooks spoke. “What do you expect, parents suck, doesn’t matter how attentive or not they are.” Daphne held it up near her lips as she continued on with her point. “It’s not like they didn’t do this shit when they were our age.” Once she was done with her sentence she immediately took another hit, before holding it out for Brooks to take.

Eden blinked in confusion at the other girl, trying to figure out if she was being genuine or rude. She usually assumed the best in people, but she was also her mothers daughter and had quite the cutting tongue when riled. “Is there a reason you’re talking to me like I’m stupid?” She asked politely, jumping down off the wall as she faced the other girl. “I’m sorry my personality isn’t to your taste. I wasn’t aware growing into a cynical adult was something I should be aspiring to?” She tilted her head, before holding her hand out. “Eden Wilde. Maybe we should start again.”

Daphne resisted the urge to scoff. “Oh that would be because you were acting stupid. You see how that works?” She cocked an eyebrow in confussion at the outstretched hand; she wasn’t something she's been offered from anyone under forty in years. “Puckerman,” Daphne answered flatly as she shook Eden’s hand. “Yeah, can’t say a second impression is going to do you much good, especially ‘round here but I appreciate the effort.”

Eden sat on the wall outside McKinley, swinging her legs out of boredom as she scrolled through her phone. She’d missed the bus, having been engrossed in a book during last period, so instead she was forced to wait until cheerios practice had ended so she could get a ride from her mom. She was going to join, she wanted to join, but waiting for official tryouts was important and she didn’t want her mom to show favouritism. She looked up as she heard footsteps approaching, smiling brightly. “Hello! I’m not causing trouble, promise.” She slid her phone into her purse, eager to make conversation when she’d been terribly bored. “I wouldn’t even know how to cause trouble. Unless you’re not supposed to sit on the wall? Oh gosh, I don’t want my reputation in Lima to be someone who sits on walls when they’re not supposed to!”

Daphne just stood there with the most irritated, confused frown on her face. What was this girl talking about? She was just passing by after detention. Who gave a shit if she sat on a wall? Clearly she didn’t know who she was speaking too. Daphne looked her up and down, not recognizing her. She realized it was probably just some little kid waiting for their Mom to come back. Daphne put on a less annoyed face. “Oh I remember when I was ten and was concerned with getting in trouble too.” Daphne pouted and moved closer to the girl to give her a pat on the head. “Don’t worry, you’ll grow out of your sunshine's and lollipop phase soon enough. Then you’ll be all grown up.”

Brooks had been minding his own business - okay, maybe not so much minding his own business, but he was away from the town’s residents and he wasn’t causing anyone any harm. Except himself maybe. He had a spliff in hand, half smoked between him and someone who’d been at the usual spot he went to to score some drugs when Naseer wasn’t around, but what he hadn’t expected was to spot someone he knew walking towards him. His smile fell at first, the panic starting to settle. “Wh-What are you doing here?!”

Daphne was beyond ready for this school week to be over, actually just the school part. She had three projects to avoid doing and obviously the best way to do that was through lack of sobriety. Daphne walked up to Brooks when she saw him. “I’m guessing the same reason you are.” Daphne glanced around. “Where is the night in shining narcotics anyways?”

While on the bus to school, Daphne sat leaning against the window with her eyes closed. She had had a late night and just wanted to get to school, that way she could sneak away to hang out underneath the bleachers. She was in no mood to talk when she felt someone tap her on the shoulder. “Unless you have an energy drink, then I doubt I’ll have much patience to deal with you.”

Mad sounds in your ears, they make you feel alright. They bring you back to life.

This feel a lot like you’re speaking a completely different language, that I sort of understand, but not enough to speak in it with you. I would like to be speaking the same language now.

You seem to replace your brain with your heart. You take things so hard, and then you fall apart.

I mean I agree, school is 100% a waste of time, but it is currently serving as an escape from the grounded life, so it finally has a purpose.
