Today was such a good day! I did my weekly citizen scientist duty at The Field Museum, helping to enter specimen labels into their database. I was having all of the feelings because there were a lot of specimens from the collections of female scientists at the turn of the century and they had written such detail on the labels as to where the found the specimen, what they were doing at the time, etc. Maybe my imagination was just running wild, but those cards were perfect little glimpses into their lives and I loved it. Afterwards I got a tour of part of the specimen collection archives and got to touch (and hold!) a lot of fish specimens and saw so many animals in jars. So many. It was great. I spoke with the people who run the lichen department and they desperately need more volunteers so I I just need to fill out the proper paperwork and then I get to play with the lichen specimens as often as I can fit into my schedule!
I also looked super cute for all of this. I didn’t have time to mess with my camera by the time I got around to taking photos today. I was losing light fast since it was at the end of the day and starting to rain. I don’t think they turned out too bad though, the colors are fairly true to life this time. My bow tie is from Forage Haberdashery, shirt is Banana Republic, skirt is Cath Kidston, and shoes are Clarks.
