& i’ve always lived like this . . . keeping it comfortable — distant
and up until now i had sworn to myself that i’m content with loneliness
daqiao feat. jeongguk — @jeonggukxmi
the fiction section has been arranged in alphabetical order for the umpteenth time, shelves upon shelves of heavy literature neatly lined up with their spines facing outwards. it’s a hushed atmosphere punctured only by the occasional laugh from some teenagers stationed at the heart of the children’s section. the comfortable leather arm chairs have long since been abandoned and the adolescents have decided to spend the afternoon floundering from floor cushion to floor cushion. it’s enough of a disturbance to have the librarian hushing them, but it also breaks daqiao from the nervous reverie she had been in.
she takes a step back from the shelving, blinking a few times and pushing the book in her hands back to it’s original place. she’s not an employee here, so she shouldn’t be busying herself with some monotonous task like this — but what else is she to do? she’s been here for a little over an hour already, though she’s really the only one to blame for that. she had been so nervous about being late that she’s come much too early. but being punctual was good! at least she had thought so. perhaps there was a thing as being too on the dot.
the internal debate rages on for a few more moments before the brunette decides to check the time. it’s a little before five and she’s sure that jeongguk said he would be arriving about quarter after — time to find a table!
daqiao heads over towards one of the areas muffled in silence, close enough to the cafe but far enough for them to have a hushed conversation. she wasn’t sure if the MYEONGCHO LIBRARY was a good choice for a first meeting place, but she had thought it was preferable compared to others. students were busy slaving away over assignments while older couples sat with coffees warm in their hands — it was comfortable, but private enough she thought he would feel more at ease. at least she hoped so. where did one take someone that they’ve never met in person before? she pulls her bottom lip between her teeth and turns to rummage in her bag, second guessing her choice once more.
out of her knapsack comes a small whiteboard, equipped with a number of colorful pens. though she and jeongguk text often during the day, she thought that communicating with a dry erase board might be a little more exciting. something different. she mulls over what to write in greeting before she settles on a simple — hi jeongguk! — and places the board face down before she can change her mind. she smooths her hands over her skirt and her mind flits to wondering if she’s overdressed or under dressed for the occasion. geez! she thinks, furrowing her brows together, meeting someone for the first time is so stressful!
