Who Am I ? I am — the secrets kept no one can know, hidden beneath the lies — I don’t know why I told. Ugly cries, bonded by traumatic lives. I am someone who wonders why. I wonder why you cannot look me eye to eye. I caught your gaze and almost died. But really — I wonder what it’s like to die. Like tears flowing into the heart’s night. Like darkness setting the forever sky. Release. Exhale. Forget I’m me. The bleeding scars no one can see. It never comes — the healing time. And all that is… is who I am.

I awoke last night to the sound of thunder- it's no wonder, then, that I fell to Hunger; come! Beat your heart against the cage and learn again to feel the rage; take up your sword to fight once more, once more fall to aid their cause. Come! The darkness is upon the land, each eye bright as a burning brand, for hope, for hope! We ride once more, to batter down the devil's door.

And then we rest and rest again, until once more again they send

Warning smoke up to sky; come down once more, oh warrior high!

(You'd think that after all these years that I'd have no more tears to shed, but evil never goes to bed and it seems they never learn.)

When all is said and done,

there is no one at blame.

No matter how far we run,

we still face where we came.

I don't mind standing, alone in the rain.

Every day I touch my skin to discover it for the first time,

to remind myself that I am far older than it is, and the world can be a frightening place to be young and inexperienced, so when it cries out in pain I must listen and not harden myself to it, for naïveté is no weakness and cynicism is no gift.

When I trace the contours of my collarbones or rub sweet roses into my tired hands, I remember how I’ve lied before and pretended to know more than I know or to have done things I have not, but my skin won’t remember that for much longer, I will rebirth it and it will carry me with grace like a child carries their parents when they grow weary with age.
