”I don’t understand what your problem is. The mission paper said to kill this person. And we have to follow, no matter what person it actually is. Stopy whinging so much”, Kakashi replied, lightly annoyed already. Obito loved to complain it seems.

Dawn by the River

She could barely make out the smile forming underneath the fabric of the man’s mask. It was most peculiar to find someone with such stark features such as his. Silver locks, a dark, mysterious gaze which analyzed her and held hers so confidently in return; it was safe to say that his masked stranger had intrigued The Dragon. “Hm, a creep isn’t necessarily the word I would choose. Perhaps a bit cheeky, though I don’t really mind. You’re welcome to look all you want so long as you understand that it’s all you’ll be doing, good sir.”  Unless he wished to lose a hand. 

A half-hearted chuckle escaped her lips, her body leaned forward and she gingerly dipped her fingertips into the shimmering waters of the river. The water was perfect; lukewarm from the sun’s rays. A peculiar look appeared on her face, there was a bittersweetness in her gaze as though she were reminiscing, “It was a pleasant sleep. I recall dreaming about something nice, but now I no longer remember what it was. How quickly the mind wanders,” she murmured, her gaze fixed upon the calm waters. Even though her fingers were submerged and the water seemed to stand still, the current was actually traveling around them to go upstream. Her life seemed similar; time stood still for the young woman, trapped in the past while the rest of the world continued onward. 

“One can hardly blame them. These days many still believe we’re living in peaceful times, it’s easy to become careless; things are taken lightly. But where there’s peace, there will always be war. My guess is that you’re a man who cherishes his days because you don’t have much to lose other than your own life, am I right?” 

Her eyes flickered back to the silver haired man, her wry smile widening just a little bit more, “Tell me, Masked Wanderer, what brought you to these gardens?”

“Be thankful for every good dream you have. In such dark times it’s a present.” Kakashi blurred these words out. He lived in a nightmare, but he was able to control it. But not at night. No. Then he saw his dead friends, feeling their warm blood on his hands. These nightmares were not controllable and they were the onces making him get closer to the edge each day.

”You are guessing right.” He would not lay down all his secrets and where he came from, but she saw through him. He only had his life left. Honor? Love? Family? Nothing was left anymore, and sometimes he was glad. So he had nothing else to lose.

For a moment he kept silent, watching her at the water. If he still had his camera with him.... it would have been a master piece. But in the end it would have not be any near as perfect as the real moment.

He had to chuckle lightly by the nickname. “Well, actually I heard about it a while ago, and since I was nearby, I felt like it was a good idea to visit. And you, young lady?”
