Catching up on art posts, very honored and proud to share this oil painting which went live this past Friday, a work created for Elliot Lang's 'Character In Context' show at the A.R. Mitchell Museum in Trinidad, Colorado. I had the incredible privilege to design this year’s Pride Shirt from Critical Role! It features our beloved Blue Boi Dorian Storm on hos steed Coriolis. I snuck in a little favour of his lover, tied to his arm, and some sneaky Latin: “Amore fiunt homines” is Latin for “It’s love that makes people.”

Btw, this is a sideblog, and I block extremely liberally from main, so if you find out you are blocked, I'm so sorry. It's not that I don't want you to look at my art, just that I don't want you to look at my main. I'm trying to take advantage of the tumblr weirdness when it comes to blocking and sideblogs, but I realise that it can come across as a personal thing when I promise it's not!
(Each of them are listed as they would have identified at the time, but I'll refer to them here with their adult names and pronouns and all that.)
I really want Callie's teenage design to retroactively make her adult design better represent her growing into her own person over the years she's spent away from the Light Realm. Adult Callie lets her hair grow incredibly long, she wears a dress which opens a lot wider and exposes her shoulders, she has darker colours in her outfit overall, and she's put on some weight—whereas younger Callie wears exclusively light colours, even in her shoes, and is more conservative in her appearance.
Young Callie also shows her ego significantly more, because this was a decade before she finally started to distrust what she was taught about the Prophecy and about her magic. She still thinks she's destined to be the saviour of the world. Why wouldn't she be vain as hell about it? Adult Callie, on the other hand, has been questioning everything about herself, about her magic, about her destiny, about her upbringing—she has a more serious, quiet demeanor because she's lost a lot of what defined her for so long, and she's struggling to come to terms with the truth.
Nightshade's design, more than anything, is meant to show the certain way she integrated with (American) human society: she's in an outfit that's very "of the time," but at the time, it was kind of indicative of her being an outsider. She never wanted to fit in, but she didn't want to be completely othered either, so she matched a popular yet "alternative" style. Her hair being the way it is was mostly because she would grasp onto anything that made her appear closer to what she presumed her father looked like and further from her mother. She'd grow out of it and find her own style soon enough, but for now, she's deep into her mommy issues.
Dee-Dee realised she was trans when she was 16, but even before then, she rarely felt like she "belonged." Whether it was because of her lack of confidence in her gender, her having to disguise what species she truly was, or (around this time, actually) everyone knowing she has the "bad" Celestial magic, she felt pretty alone, and if anything, she wanted to draw as little attention to herself as possible. Her outfit is incredibly simple because she just wanted to be unremarkable, that way people outside of her tiny circle of friends won't bother her.
Ash's design is essentially how I started dressing when I was in highschool, though for me it was for gender reasons. He's just like this. I dunno, not a lot of depth with him. I will say that he eventually wears red contacts because he thinks it looks cool, and these contacts are also coloured, just a darker brown than his eyes actually are (lack of melanin and all that.)
Theo at this time is still a homeless orphan using his magic to hide away from everyone forever and survive on whatever he can conjure without draining too much of his own energy. (He will eventually learn how to better manage his power, but for now, he doesn't know shit about fuck and neither does Reaper.) He wears a fabric mask all the time and has had to repair them or make new ones several times.
