In addition to my vote:

I like to draw/depict their ectos ending at the elbow and knee joints. From my standpoint as an artist, its easier to draw the natural tapering/transition of the thickness of the ectobody back the bones that way. 

As logic (or as logical as magical skeletons can get), I don’t see the reason they’d need to summon it beyond that point. If ever, them summoning their bodies to the point of elbows/knees is already a stretch considering that ectos are usually depicted as used for reproduction in the fandom. I just chalked it to the magic’s way of naturally smoothing/fading the transition of ecto to bones. 

Additionally, I’ve always liked the idea that skeleton reproduction goes: souling > babybones > live birth. The ectos ending at the knees would most likely help support the childbearing partner when the babybones has already formed a body in their magic. It’s their body’s natural way to cushion their bones like the pelvis especially since the added weight could certainly not be comfortable for them (especially when sitting). This can also go with the ecto ending at the elbows, the magic can be a little cushion to the baby’s skull whenever they carry them (considering babies’ bones are softer in the first few months of their life).

I’ve also headcanoned for a long time that ectos are used for reproduction AND also impressing potential partners. There are multiple fics out there that also use this idea for ectos. Since ectos take magic to be summoned, I figured that the more plump it is and the longer it is “on”, the deeper the magic reserves of the individual summoning it. Kinda like how in old times, plump women were considered attractive because it shows that they are healthy and are wealthy in terms of food. Breasts have always been an optional choice for the skeletons to summon them, but once they are carrying babybones, those remain until the breastfeeding period is over (if we’re going with the idea that skeletons breastfeed their babies magic milk). 

The ecto-ends-at-elbow-knee and attraction goes for both sexes, the other parts are for childbearing lol.

I’ve always liked drawing the skellies with ectos, and have been exploring various ideas about them from other great creators (artists, writers, casual fans, etc.) throughout my years in the fandom, with my main victim being Gaylord “Error Sans” Scooter Brighton.

here at the sandwich shop, we’ve started to notice some people who are new to sandwiches aren’t used to meat and cheese between two slices of bread. they find this practice strange and confusing. that’s why we’ve decided to cut the bread out all together. from now on, we’ll just serve slices of meat and cheese on a plate.
