Whenever I hear something like “she brings misfortune to those around her”, I wonder if empathy is only for the dead. Because it seems that as long as you survive a tragedy, you are doomed to feel guilt.

In this sense, it‘s as if barely anyone feels for Han Seol-ah, if it might be pity or empathy. Instead they see her as a harbinger of death. Her parents died. Every man she dated died. So she must be guilty. No one could be so unlucky, right? That would be unrealistic.

It would also be unrealistic that someone else is causing this. She is the common denominator, so it must be her. Even if there is zero evidence for that suspicion. There is not even a motif.

Han Seol-ah is not only unlucky because people close to her die, she is unlucky because she is pretty and confident enough to be deemed a temptress. She is not pity-material. She does not cry or look weak. She is not poor.

She is the perfect scapegoat.

That disturbed me the most so far. This one-sided, biased perspective of her which all of these people try to pin on her. Why did they not think it odd for a psychiatrist to hook up with a freaking patient?? Why was it not a concern? Instead, they see her looks, they see her “compliance” by dating him (if that actually happened) and think she must have started it bc the man is a doctor, he surely is a professional, why would he even think of dating a patient. It wouldn’t make much sense right? Except she is a siren!

Women judging women.

And all she gained is endless trauma.

I always have to think of that one line she said (not a direct quote): “why is no one thinking of me being the victim?”

Yeah, why?
