“wait – you mean we actually have to prepare real stuff? i was just going to go in and be like ‘let’s see who can throw a punch’ or something.” daisy laughed, her shoulders shrugging. okay, it wasn’t her exact plan but it was pretty close. teaching didn’t come easy to everyone, but she’d do her best to try to impart some sort of wisdom on these kids. “honestly, i really wish i could help, but i don’t think i know anything about what you’re teaching. hacking and fighting and superpowers i can handle, science not so much.” she pointed out. “but if you think there’s anything i can do, just let me know.”

“i wonder what sort of movie would be a good enough replacement for a mystic arts class.” she mused, “harry potter? stephen would never let me hear the end of it.” she quickly surmised with the shrug of her shoulders. admittedly, the thought of his reaction alone almost made it sound worth it. illyana turned to face the other magic user, brow quirking in curiosity. she didn’t have much experience with loki, but she knew their reputation. “and what would we do with this day off anyway?”

Nikolai had spent his day hanging out with Ellie and Bennett, the two taking up most of the day. Between that and plenty of reading, his normal exercise routine, he was tired and had gone to bed after walking Ellie back to her room for the night. The clock had just struck 1:30 am when he heard a quiet knock, which he disregarded thinking it was probably just the person who lived next door and across the hall. He rolled over getting comfortable just as more knocks followed this time a very distinct voice coming to mind. He groaned, throwing an arm over his eyes because he already knows it was his older sister. He wondered if it was her medical school brain keeping her awake this late. “I’m coming, I’m coming,” he said aloud and got up, only in his shorts and walked to open up the door. His eyes screamed someone who was lacking sleep, and he rubbed at them as he let her step past him into the room. As he shut the door and shuffled back over to the main part of the room he raised his eyebrows. “What’s up, E?” he asked, “What’s keeping you up? Did you eat enough at dinner?” he asked thinking about her mention of pizza.

she was well aware that she was being ridiculous – that well into adulthood she was still pestering others during the times she couldn’t sleep. the behavior was mostly reserved for her family and closest friends, but she was yet to really get close to anyone there, which only left family for the time being. there was some irony to it, she figured, since she was such a social butterfly back home where she was around average people and pretending to be normal – but here, surrounded by people actually like her with abilities, she wasn’t really sure of her place yet.

“first of all, i think we both know i’m always capable of eating more.” eira pointed out, hands falling to her sides as she followed him into the room. she had what seemed to be a never ending pit of a stomach, and only ever really stopped herself to remain healthy. “but honestly, who knows – between med school brain, being in a whole other past timeline, and i don’t know – not really being sure what i’m doing here yet?” she shrugged, not really dwelling on the subject before finding a place to sit before pulling a flask out of the pocket of her oversized sweatpants. “– no judging, i’m an adult, despite what mom would say. how are you doing here though? tell me you have some success stories to distract me.”

“of course,“ stephen responded, his smile faltering just a bit as he took on a more professional demeanor around his former pupil. well, at least one version of his. a smirk crossed his lips at her retort as he glanced away from her to look around his clinically white room. “i could teach both, you know - but magic, more precisely the mystic arts and further, occultism.” he added, looking back to her with a shrug.

“are you looking forward to teaching, illyana? or have you decided to become a student once more?“ he wouldn’t be surprised by either answer - she was, after all, a powerful being who had a knack for learning (even when she fell asleep) but also afforded the patience to teach. something he’d not been entirely great with.

“stephen – i know.” her eyes rolled in some amusement. “that was the point of the joke – i am occasionally capable of making them.” well, more capable than any younger version of herself, she figured. though she’d long since accepted that she would forever be at odds with her demonic half and barely stitched together portions of her soul, and no one could ever really get over the type of trauma she’d experienced as a child – she did learn to connect with people. well, to some extent. she still had a penchant for dark humor and cut throat realism.

“would you really want me as a student again?” that provoked a quiet laugh as she moved further into the room, hopping up to sit on the top of a desk. “no, i’d rather teach. in my time, there are so few left that can even learn the arts.” she pointed out. she’d been prolonging her life to stay young for so long because the mystic arts were growing extinct, and there was no one to truly pass the mantle to. “but i assure you, even when you’re no longer physically there, you’re still a mentor, and a very noisy spirit, if i say so myself.”

natasha let out a snort as she looked over at her fellow shield agent. “you’re asking an avenger this question?” she asked, raising a brow and shaking her head. “better to ask someone who is new to the business.” she stood up to her full height, moving towards the punching bag before her. “but if what you’re thinking could ever possibly be true, then i’ll have you know that there are more of us who should have ended the planet by now just by existing.”

“true –” she nodded in agreement, having to laugh at the irony of it all. “but i’d hate to be the one that scares all these new kids off.” daisy pointed out, stepping back to catch her breath and wipe a stray bead of sweat from her temple. she mulled over the thought for only a minute before shrugging her shoulders. “any of us still could, i guess. you never really know.” she’d already been to a time where she cracked the world like an egg, after all. but at least that they were able to prevent. “if anyone would’ve told me years ago, back when i was living in a van – by choice, for the record – that i’d end up involved in half the things i’ve been in, i’d never believe it. something tells me none of the new ones really know either.”

Years of homeschooling and knowing nothing but her mother and the Banners, despite her time in the private school, seemed to still have a bit of an impact on her. An impact as in, she was rather terrible at introducing herself to people correctly. She’d tried over and over in the private school she’d graduated from but always ended up being too loud, too friendly, too something. So, facing a room full of strangers as she toyed with one of her many rings was intimidating to say the very least. She found herself hypnotized by a snack that a pretty girl was making, wondering how it could possibly be any good, when she invited her to sit with her. “Oh, me? Really?,” she asked. How embarrassing would it be if she had bee talking to someone else? But she wasn’t. Thank Zeus she wasn’t. “That’s so sweet of you, thank you! I’m Celestia! What’s your name?” 

“yeah, absolutely!” eira reassured quickly with a warm smile as she gestured to the seat for her to sit. “i’m eira, it’s really nice to meet you. celestia is such a pretty name.” she complimented before taking a bite from the pop tart ice cream sandwich she’d concocted. her eyes glanced around the room before looking back to the other girl. “it’s crazy how many people they got here for all of this, right? i mean, i guess that’s what happens when you travel the multiverse for hero's kids though. who are your parents?” she questioned in an honest curiosity, figuring it was best to make some conversation.

Christine had, in fact, been looking for a place to grab a quick bite, and hadn’t expected the lounge to be quite this crowded. Things had really picked up since the students had started coming in. There was in fact only one free seat, and she was relieved when the person at the table offered it up. 

“Thanks,” she said in relief, placing down her precariously balanced tray (mostly, the really, really tall iced coffee that was on the corner of it). “Wow, it’s really crowded in here,” she said. “Hi, I’m Christine - I work over at the hospital, but I teach here sometimes. And – you know…” she nodded at the poptart ice cream sandwich and back at her healthier but definitely less tasty salad. “That looks really good.”

eira offered a friendly smile to the other woman as she accepted her offer – she was vaguely familiar to her, as if she’d already seen her around, but the asgardian couldn’t entirely say were. when she introduced herself, she figured the most likely reason. “yeah, of course – it’s really nice to meet you, i’m eira. i think i might have seen you around the hospital before? just before all of this i finished med school back home. i’m working on my residency now.” she explained with an enthusiastic nod and a bite into the concoction she’d made for lunch.

quickly chewing and swallowing down her food, she nodded again in agreement. “i guess i have kind of a sweet tooth and college really didn’t help my eating habits much but it is so good. plus i think it’s an asgardian thing but we kind of consume a lot of calories.” eira likely over explained before offering a smile. “i have to say, i didn’t know they made iced coffee that tall.”

Eleanor paused her own training for a moment, twirling the sword she was wielding around once before it came to a stop at her side. “Hm?,” she said, head tilting to the side at the woman’s question. She couldn’t say she had much of an answer. After all, she’d never been forced to consider what an answer might be. So, instead, she just let out a soft giggle. “I used t’think the max was, I dunno, one?,” she mused. “If you’re going to make the world kaboom though, could ya give me a heads up? I have a dog in the… other world.” 

as daisy moved to grab a nearby water bottle, she let out a laugh in response before nodding her head. “there’s a good chance you’re right about that, one is probably too many to most people. but here we are, and not really most people.” anyone that took it upon themselves to want to protect others, maybe even save the world one day, couldn’t be considered ‘most people’ anymore – and wasn’t that why they were all here. “don’t worry, it’s not on the agenda this time around. and by the time we’re done at this school, you can go back and do all the world saving so the dog remains safe.”

spawned - that’s an interesting word for it and emma can’t help chuckling, turning an amused eye at the other blonde. “well thank you, dear. that’s oddly comforting.” she agrees with her concerning the children - it must be a real trip for some of them or a second chance for others. emma imagines it must be easier to mend relationships with versions of your parents that don’t know of your misdeeds if, of course, that’s applicable to any of the students. “oh, yes. i was meant to ask - what made you decide to leave your timeline?”

“i have my moments.” illyana shrugged – if there was one thing she wasn’t known for, it was her ability to comfort. she was a realist, and often reality wasn’t comforting but every so often, she supposed it works. her lips pressed together at the question for a moment, before deciding to answer with the colder truth of it. “i come from a time that’s already faced an apocalypse of sorts – life is scarce, the mystic arts even more so. the x-men and avengers had long since perished. i’ve slowed my aging with magic to try to preserve whats left as the sorceress supreme. if i can prevent what happened in my time from happening in others, then that’s what i’ll do.” she explained, looking to the other woman. “what made you decide to take part in all this?”

it was probably what most people would consider to be too late for the sound of eira’s flip flops to be echoing down the hallways, but she would disagree. there was something about the new place and time, the new schedule of this place that she hadn’t adjusted to and found it impossible to remain asleep at night. it wasn’t unheard of, she’d gotten used to pulling all-nighters in med school anyway, but eira couldn’t stand being stuck in the room and left to her own thoughts. she needed company – and she really didn’t want to scare away her roommate by bothering them already. fairly, there was only one person here at the moment she knew she could bother that was technically not allowed to hate her for waking them. she stopped outside of her little – but much taller – brother’s room and gave a quiet knock. “nik.” she attempted to be quiet, but only an impatient moment later her knock and voice grew louder. “nik!” and louder, “nikkiii!” she was beginning to be the type of obnoxious only a sibling could accomplish. “nikolai!” eira paused, finally letting out a sigh. “i can’t sleep and my only options are to go for a walk or devour pizza and ice cream, and if i do either alone people are going to think i’m sad or something.”

loose papers and medical books were quickly being shoved in a bag to then be thrown under her bed – a quick haphazard attempt eira made to clean up. she’d been yet to meet her roommate here and the last thing she wanted was for them to think she was some sort of slob. okay, maybe she was a bit disorganized, but she definitely wasn’t a slob. “oh crap, what am i even supposed to do with this thing anyway?” she muttered to herself, grabbing mjölnir from her bed and glancing around for the best place to put it. would just leaving it out seem braggy or something? carefully, she hung it on a nearby coatrack where it’d ideally be as inconspicuous as possible. as she heard the door open, she quickly turned on her heel to face it with a smile. “hi! you must be my roommate. i’m eira.”

eira chose a double room and to have a roommate – this is primarily due to her constant striving for friendship and socialization, as well as a severe dislike of being alone.

she loves to decorate with bits of bright colors and photographs. she also has a projector to illuminate the ceiling with stars, something she’s had since childhood.

eira is many things, but neat and tidy certainly isn’t one of them. she’s just come out of medical school to work on her residency and still constantly has books and papers laying around.

she also keeps mjölnir hanging on a coatrack by the door. she says the coatrack is worthy.

     even if there were times that percy questioned why he was here in this place, at least there were some interesting people. that kept his hopes up, if even slightly. maybe, just maybe, changes actually could be made and he could learn to be a better person. this academy was the best place to do something like that. “sounds like you’ve been living a pretty interesting life so far. and here i was thinking my world tended to get pretty crazy on its own.” no space shenanigans and time travel at the very least. “not surprising. the whole hero thing and all. nice to meet you, daisy. i’m percy. uh – dracula’s son.”

“interesting is definitely one way to put it.” daisy agreed, a quiet laugh in her tone. she didn’t want to scare anyone away, to tell them that saving people, maybe even the world, it always came with a sacrifice. she was told that she and the other instructors were here to teach and inspire them, but another part of her worried that perhaps they should be told just what kind of life they were getting into. “dracula? seriously? he’s like ... real?” she asked with an honest curiosity and intrigue. “the whole, uh, hero thing? don’t stress it too much. it feels super weird to even hear, i think we’re all just people that want to help other people? some just have super powers.”

she can see it now, the difference. It was mentioned by strange briefly while they were still on asgard, that the academy would not only house sorcerers but supersoldiers and mutants as well - people with a range of abilities that are genetic in nature. of course, sorcery can be something you inherit, too, but magic can also be learned with enough time. she can feel it, know with certainty that this woman wields mystical power, probably a kind as of yet unfamiliar to sibyl, but she had no way to guess the mutation. “i do, but with a different kind. have you ever heard of asgard?” she asks with some amusement. at this point, she just expects the answer to be yes.

there was a relief in being around other magic users that illyana hadn’t expected – in her timeline, the arts were nearly extinct and she’d been struggling to preserve it. but here, suddenly there were others and they were willing to learn. “of course – can’t say i’ve ever had the opportunity to go there myself, though.” she offered with a nod. “different kinds of magic are expected, of course. though i have a mutant ability, i do practice in the same mystic arts as doctor strange and the others, as well as channeling the power from another dimension when necessary. i’m aware that asgardians have their own sort as well? have you trained much in it?”

“as opposed to what?“ eric asked, raising a brow from beneath his sunglasses. “the future?” he drew out his tone, slow and languid as he turned to look at her. he’d sat relatively quietly in the shared lounge, remaining sometimes as still as a statue - all to get peace and to listen to what any new student would need or want to say. and of course, to sense out danger. he lowered his glasses, revealing the oddly lightened color of his irises as he watched the person stare at him and then tell the girl no, before walking off.  “don’t worry, it’s not you they’re afraid of, it’s me.” he looked to her, “are you going to take my class?”

“well, technically – yeah. or a future? there are apparently a lot of them.” she pointed out with a shrug – silently wondering if ice cream even existed in all of the various timelines. as she watched the small scene unravel – the person she’d offered a chair to making such a quick exit – her head tilted to the side. eira wasn’t oblivious to the way the world was or how judgmental the world could be, she’d gone to public high school after all, but that didn’t mean she really understood it. “why should they be afraid of you? isn’t everyone here kind of different somehow?” she wondered before nodding. “probably? what do you teach? they said i should take a lot of the combat and powers classes.”
