Trying out a new tagline - "An online magazine that celebrates photographing the Dark Side of the Pop Culture Collectible known as Funko Pops!"
Great video to watch for anyone into the whole Funko thing like me!
"Making Fun The story of Funko."
What is "Dark Funko Zine" ?
Have you ever heard of dark photography?
If not let me give you a little insight behind the low key style of shooting that motivated me to start this "zine".
I was first exposed to dark photography on Instagram I think, in the genre of food.
I experimented with it a bit with results like this -
When I started my Funko Pop! photography project my very first image was this -
I found this look to be very appealing to me.
Hence the "Dark" in "Dark Funko Zine".
Why Funko's?
The are fun to collect, fairly inexpensive and have a large community of like minded people.
They are easy to find, always coming out with new series and are easy to photograph.
I choose to use flash/strobe lighting to help grow my skillset. I have learned a lot about atificial lighting in my journey so far. With this project I hope to add video, challenging myself again.
Why a "Zine"?
I was honestly tied of using the word blog.
That's is plain and simple. Does it meet the definition of the word "zine"? Maybe not entirely.
"A zine (/ziːn/ ZEEN; short for magazine or fanzine) is a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images..." - Wikipedia
This is definately starting out with a small circulation of one!
That and I wanted to publish content that was more informational and less personal (like a blog). I found my current postings of Funko Pop! photography to be more visual and not enough background information people (and the interwebs) might be looking for.
The stories behind the "Pops!".
Anyway let me know what you think, leave a comment or like.
