❛ THOUGH ERIK OFTEN TRIED TO PRETEND HE DIDN’T need anyone at his side, he was still vulnerable to the same weaknesses that humans often experienced. emotions. he was often anguished, enraged, and lonely. part of his passionate fight for his kind was due to this, because he didn’t want any of his mutant brothers and sisters to feel the same plight as they were fighting for their lives. it was relieving, however, to hear that raven had been doing well. it was the most they could hope for when they were at the cusp of war. “big and bad?” he chuckled. “is that what you think of me, raven?” he was only teasing, of course. “i’ve been traveling, doing what i can to help our kind win just one battle after another, but i’m afraid we’re at the brink of war and our kind are more scattered than ever.” sure, they were all unified, fighting for one cause, but he was afraid his peace-loving friend would try and negotiate with the humans rather than meet them with brute force. it would only prolong the inevitable. if not now, he knew another human would try and finish what trask had started in the future. “now that i know that charles had his way in the future,” he said, gripping the railings hard, his gaze concentrated. “i won’t let him have his way again.” it was a promise. he knew many would stop him, including the alleged superheroes that charles had brought from the future, even if it wouldn’t be charles himself that stopped him this time. “so if you’re not with me, raven, don’t get in my way.”
“ oh no, that’s what everyone who doesn’t know you thinks-- i personally like to hold you for slightly big and perhaps a bit mad. ” she teased, lips curving further into a genuine smile as she gradually grew into the conversation. it felt nice to be able to bring a more calming side into their interaction, a majority of the ones she had held with others only made raven fall into a tense state and that wasn’t something people really wanted to deal with from her. “ i’m not here to stand in the way of you or charles, you both can continue with your back and forth banters of who’s wrong or right-- my entire point and reasoning here is to end this before it begins and that starts with trask. ” she merely stated her facts. raven had seen the initial beginnings of charles and erik’s slow decline in friendship but throughout it all it only left her more confused with herself. she wasn’t about to end up between the two, conflicted between her relation with charles and her similar ideologies as erik. raven was there for herself and feeling partially connected to the creations of sentinels, as well as the downfall in mutant-kind she felt a burden to end this herself. charles would try to talk her down from her case and erik, well as much as they may have similar views on the matter she never knew where the trust could go and at this point the only person who wouldn’t let her down was herself. years of continuous disappointments was enough for raven to finally get a clue on what needed to be done for herself, stop relaying on others and do her ones own biddings. “ i’m not here to ask for permission from charles and i don’t need anyones help-- regardless of what happens here, i’m going to get to trask and i will finish it. ” pushing back from the railings, she heaved a sigh after taking in a fresh breathe and allowing herself to focus on the scenery before them. “ i’m sure we can both understand each other and know well enough, this will end-- however way we go about it. i suppose there’s comfort in that, if you need it. ”
drwin:
darwin gave a short laugh. “i might have been asking for too much, yeah.” but he stayed hopeful. angel, sean, hank, and alex. of course, charles and erik, too. even moira. the last few people he could remember, even though the memories themselves aren’t so clear. “well, i know you missed a heck of a thanksgiving. people donated food and everything. so if you’re feeling hungry, i can bet that there will be food still in the refrigerator.” he stated, a smile on his face. he’s patient. he knew it wasn’t fair to raven either that she had to tell him everything. if anything, darwin should’ve went to hank. “and of course, the sentinels. apparently, that’s what all of these people are here for. and me. and you, i’m assuming?”
asking for too much was an understatement and truly raven understood his place to question, it’s something she’d do herself and frankly wouldn’t step down unless given answers. but darwin wasn’t that type, which she was a lot more grateful for. he was the type to clue in on her actions and knew to back off just as quickly as the question came out, it’d been an odd thing to be grateful for in a person-- some would literally just call it human decency but raven hadn’t been around the best of people the last few years. “ food sounds amazing. ” she let out a pleased sigh, peering over at the other with a small feeling of reassurance that she’d enjoy some aspects of being back here. “ you assume right-- whatever way we can stop them right? ” the realities of her words leaned more so on whatever way than she lead on. raven wasn’t about to throw out her entire reasonings with darwin, they’d just been reunited and perhaps she’d save the whole ‘you’ve changed’ talk for another time.

❛ ERIK COULDN’T HELP BUT CHUCKLE AT her bold response, quite liking this fiery, untamed side to her personality. “you wound me, raven,” he jested. “i’ve never seen you as a child. perhaps, when you were still so obsessed with fitting in with a society that shamed you–” erik hadn’t really thought of her as someone worth his time then, but after she had started to take his advice to heart and grew confidently into her own skin, he hadn’t seen her as anything but a woman that was strong, intelligent, beautiful. “all your life you’ve been told what to do, and how to feel. the last thing i want to do is weigh you down,” erik confessed. “i only ask because i want you by my side.” but he wouldn’t press, knowing they’d both flourish working alone, anyway. if erik had a choice, however, he did find strength in numbers. all he wanted her to know was that he’d always welcome her after burying the hatchet. instead of asking her any more of that, erik changed the subject. he didn’t know when the next time would be that he would see raven again, which meant he needed to cherish this moment. he wasn’t going to make the same mistake of taking those he cared about for granted anymore. he owed it to her, after all they had been through, to protect her. charles had been powerless to even make her feel comfortable in her own skin, let alone swear on his own life to be there if she needed him–them. “how have you been?” he asked a question so plain, yet one that he truly wanted to ask. “i know you’re out there, fighting the battles that charles couldn’t. i also know it gets lonely. tiring. dark.”
she couldn’t help the low groan that came forward, simply trying to recall a time where she practically gravelled at the likes of humanity just to be ‘ well liked/accepted. ’ it was a dark time for, one she tried to laugh about though the realities of those times were more destructive thoughts than anything. “ i’m sure you of all people can understand me when i say, being around those you care for or are close to weighs down a lot harder than a simple body nagging you. ” her tone was teasing though her words were very much her straight forward thoughts. the idea of working along side erik wasn’t a bad one and to be frank she knew well enough they’d work well together, in more ways than one but to be in a position that made her weaker for having someone along her side-- she couldn’t do it, she wouldn’t. with the time she had spent moving around, adjusting to the world she’d been protected from by charles, raven had not only learned of the real struggles of mutants alike within the world but she’d seen first hand what the government was truly capable of doing. there was no time for talking, when it came to what needed to be done but raven knew well enough there was always casualties in this and that’s not something she needed to see with those she actually bothered to save a place in her thoughts for. being alone only lessened the blow, in her mind, she knew her own strengths and that was more than enough for her own battle. “ i’ve been alright, tired, yes-- lonely? i can promise you that any time spent feeling lonely was something that i could easily fix. ” it was an odd question to hear, truth be told raven rarely took much time to think on her own being the last while. she’d spent a majority of her days so focused on the then and now, never pausing to really take in all that’s happened in her life.. perhaps it was for the best, less thoughts meant less time on questioning herself and at this point she’d been tired of that lifestyle. “ how about you? what has the big and bad magneto been up to? besides regretting the lack of raven in his life, i know-- life has been hard without me i’m sure but spare those details. ”
shrcpnel:
❛ ERIK NOTICED THAT RAVEN SPOKE MORE WISELY than she did the first time they had met. the years she had taken traveling alone had undeniably influenced her, and shaped her into the woman he was much honored to meet today. he had always thought charles had been holding her potential back and this, her newfound confidence, was a testament to his opinion. she looked better not belonging to any single person–not charles’ or even his. she wasn’t so young and hopelessly naive in his eyes anymore. “i will,” he agreed with a soft chuckle. “i’m glad you’re here, raven. i was starting to feel a bit out of place.” and it was a strange thing to admit that he of all people felt alienated in an institution full of gifted mutants like himself. but with so many new faces and the addition of some superheroes from the future, erik was a bit overwhelmed. on one hand, he felt a heavy obligation to be their leader, be the charismatic spearhead that his kind needed to face against the sentinel threat. but it wasn’t so simple anymore. “and what are you going to do?” he asked, though he knew deep down that her ideals weren’t so different from his own. “i know you’ve never really quite met eye-to-eye with charles, so if you don’t intend to help him, you could come with me.” he left it as an open invitation, knowing she would do as she pleased with his offer. it had never been his intention to tame something as exquisite as her, anyway. “it’s–food for thought,” he shrugged, a hand reaching out to gently tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear. she looked beautiful like this, but he missed seeing her true form—-the real raven.
“ you’d think feeling out of place would be a norm at this point, huh? ” she’d kept to herself, for the most part and really tried to avoid as many familiar faces up till this point. facing the realities of her past was one she chose to ignore and could commend herself for doing till now-- with erik, it was slightly different. though she could’ve easily stormed off or even avoided the interaction altogether, there was a far more easing comfort in finding him here than she could see in finding any of the others and so she stayed. erik, unlike charles, always allowed for freedom of thought and expression, she truly never felt there was much she could say that would shock or shake him. though her time was mainly spent with charles, during her youths, she always felt a caging sense with charles. the entire time they’d known each other, raven had practically held her breathe with her thoughts, her true form and though charles advocated for his open policies he restricted far too much of raven’s life for her to continue on. when she’d originally met erik, he was a lot of things but restricting was never one. he’d allowed for her to take her first breathes as a true individual and it was through his nudges that she felt more at home within her own body and mind, no longer worrying about if the world accepted her but rather working to accept herself. as much as erik had been deemed on the wrong side of the fight, raven saw nothing wrong with someone who could teach another to better accept themselves in a world where they’d always been shunned. “ not sure if you’ve realized, i’m not a child anymore-- i think i’ve out grown the whole team work thing. i don’t need anything or anyone weighing me down right now. ” turning her head slightly, raven allowed herself to lean towards his touch, a short smile only delicately showing as she spoke.
drwin:
he stayed silent, letting raven compose herself. as he finally figured out what to say, he felt her hands around him, wrapping him in an embrace. he immediately hugged back, emotions almost overwhelming him. it had been too long. his friends haven’t seen him in forever and it had been too long. darwin didn’t have much of a conscious as he was piecing himself back together. even now, he’ll remember vignettes of what could be memories. once she pulled back, darwin let his arms fall back to his sides, taking in raven’s face. he gave a small smile. “i bet i did.” he paused. “care to tell me some of what i did miss?”
“ what you missed? okay well how much time do we have, an eternity? ” she joked, giving a nonchalant shrug with her words. raven wasn’t about to be the person to tell darwin all that he missed, especially with a majority of the points only being directed at ‘ we’re all done with each other and surely some of us perished shortly after. life sucks but hey you’re back? ’ there was a small bit of effort though, her attempt at pulling some sort of normalcy between the two was off but what could one really do a the moment. raven wasn’t one for breaking the news to darwin, especially with whatever views or thoughts he might’ve held of her-- she knew, at the end of the day, she wasn’t the same person he last saw.
shrcpnel:
❛ ERIK DIDN’T THINK HE’D BE BACK HERE SO SOON, as well. but conditions had changed, and erik liked to think he was still the same person with the same ideals. “well, i believe we’re beyond old grudges,” he said, speaking to her as if a day hadn’t passed that he’d spoken to her. as for charles, he didn’t think much time had passed since the first time they had met, and from the moment erik had left to pursue his own goal for mutant kind. “whatever’s out there threatens the livelihood of mutant kind and charles will still refuse to do what needs to be done,” erik said. he knew his old friend would still find the peacemaker’s way out, and that made erik all the more determined to stray from his old friend’s philosophy of peace between humans and mutants. but for now, he was calm–almost reticent–as he soaked in the nostalgia of being there, now with raven. “i won’t be here for long,” he said to her with resolute firmness, sparing her a glance. “and you, raven?” she looked good as an independent, free spirit, no longer a prisoner to charles’ suffocating shackles of forced optimism. he rested one elbow on the marble railing and turned his body towards her, his posture lax instead of uptight for once. “got a bit homesick?” he teased a bit.
old grudges was a lot more comedic to hear slip from his lips than she would’ve guessed. it didn’t take much to see or note the obvious differences charles and erik held, the fact that they found any mutual grounds for some sort of friendship was almost laughable on its own, perhaps a miracle? “ and i’m quite sure he feels you’ve always been one to edge too far on what ‘ needs ‘ to be done. ” her head swayed lightly in thought, to point out the obvious raven always did side more with erik’s mindset. she supposed that’s where a majority of her respect and admiration, or at least a sense of grew from. erik wasn’t one to shy away from the realities of the world, while-- as much as she cared for charles, he imagined more of a fairytale of the world and raven grew passed those childish times in her life. if there were ever a middle ground, she felt as though she probably was situated more towards the edge of it, leaning and facing erik. “ homesick for constant nagging and parental like gazes? but of course. ” she returned with an air of sarcasm filling. “ i-- unlike you, can admit i’ll probably be here long than intended. ” her lips curved into a uneasy smile. no matter the amount of times she came back, raven always knew and though it hurt charles to admit, her time was always limited. “ though i can say, after i’m done doing what I need to i’ll be long gone from this crowded mess.. feel free to enjoy this moment now, before you end up missing my presences after y’know? ” her tongue clicked at the roof of her mouth, a soft laugh escaping her as she turned towards erik.
shrcpnel:
❛ ERIK DIDN’T PLAN TO STAY AT THE MANSION for long. he had never endorsed charles’ ideals, and none of that would change just because his old friend had brought a few superheroes from the future. it was all a bit difficult to believe. but erik trusted charles and his gift, sometimes to a fault, and he was motivated now more than ever to be more aggressive in his fight for mutant domination. he couldn’t stand idly by and watch as time slipped between his fingers like sand once more. for now, he contemplated his next course of action, looking past the balcony railings at the wide, green plot of land that the institute was surrounded by. so much had changed since the last time he had been here. it left a great weight in his chest to think that in a couple of years even this institute would be uprooted by a war most violent. when he heard footsteps behind him, he turned, a somber gaze turning towards a familiar face. “raven,” he said, greeting her with nothing less or more than a small, comfortable smile. “for someone who changes so often, you haven’t changed at all.” she was still beautiful, and as exquisite as he had last seen her.
@darkhclmc
roaming the old hallways was an odd thing, one you’d think someone like raven could get used to-- perhaps slip into a better routine with, but it was more of a forceful attempt than anything. a majority of her life had been spent within these walls and yet she’d felt farther from a home sense than ever. she chalked up most of that to the different faces that filled each of the rooms, with the bustling sounds of so called hero’s pushing passed one another, it was hard to really get back into her once feelings of comfort in the mansion. with a cross of her arms, she swerved her way from the many mutants and humans alike that filled the corridors. she needed air, a breathe or any sense of escape from the overly talkative personalities she’d already met. even with the uncomfortable feeling she felt in the home, there was a sense of gratefulness that she at least knew each room well-- enough so to find herself in spaces of freedom. that image though, died quicker than anticipated when she’d found herself by the balcony. “ not sure if that’s a good thing at this point. ” her voice was soft as she edged over to the male, arms resting over the railings before her while her own gaze focused over the scenery. raven hadn’t spoken to erik in quite sometime, his whereabouts were mostly unknown but to be honest she never placed any or much effort into locating him. she worked hard to drive away from her past and as hard as it was to admit in most cases, erik held a strong place within that just as much as charles did, she needed to escape it all and she did, before all the chaos of the future pulled her back. “ didn’t think charles could drag you back here so easily-- or find you at all. ”
Mystique: How many people do you have to kill for it to be illegal?
Professor X: One. One person.
Mystique: Are you sure?
drwin:
he understood where the animosity came from. it wasn’t like he fully revealed himself to each and every person that he encountered, wearing a sign that said ‘hey i’m not dead!’ on it. hell, he’s pretty sure he’s seen hank around, and the professor would definitely be somewhere, too. but he’s never made a point to seek them out, for reasons still unknown to himself. he figured with the amount of people he sees everyday, it just didn’t matter to reveal himself. he put a hand up, gesturing for her to not advance. “it’s..it’s really me, raven. i’m here. i’m real, and i’m alive.” he held out his free hand to her. “i’m not lying.”
the entire moment felt far too unreal, even with the time change raven held no vision of seeing or hearing about darwin. to be frank, his loss ( or so they thought ) of life was more of a guilty memory to her, one she worked hard to suppress and pretend hadn’t troubled her during dark times in her life. “ i-- how? we saw you.. i saw you- ” her words were jumbled, just as her thoughts were and really could anyone in her place fully put together the mess of words in her mind currently? peering down at his hand, a small breathe escaping her as she stepped forward once more to pull the other into her embrace. it was weird, she could admit and possibly not something she even partook to these days. but in the case of darwin she needed to make sure-- it was real, he was real, this was real, his death had taken such a toll in all their lives and to think that he’d wandered alone or for the most part to her, raven couldn’t help but wonder what could’ve been between the original group-- had the entire incident never gone down like it did. her embrace was short but very much needed, her arms naturally fell back as she adjusted herself back to her original stance. “.. you’ve missed a lot, ” her attempt at redeeming the moment itself, was it okay to even act normal at this point?
grtsenic:
she sighed impatiently. “i don’t know. one second, i was in the year 2018, the next second, i was in 1973.” it all happened so fast for gert. she didn’t even turn around, nor did she see her surroundings change ever so slightly. it was like someone had flipped a switch and in an instant, everything changed. gert shook her head. “no, i’m not a student. i’m..not exactly sure this place is functioning as an actual school right now.”
“ noted. ” the girl was basically useless to her, she’d been wrapped up in the same shambles of a cluelessness and confusion as raven had within the last few hours. “ uh huh, trust.. if charles is here, everything is a learning opportunity for others. -- sometimes it feels like you never really graduate in this damn place. ” she grumbled the last part. though her time with charles didn’t last long nor did it stay the same in any case, she could admit there was a soft spot she held for him in the deepest corners of her mind. she slipped so easily into sarcastically commenting on his teaching styles, the entire moment felt far too nostalgic for her liking. “ what’s your name kid? ”
warrenwinged:
he’s not quite sure if he’s seeing it right, or if the person in front of him is even the mystique that he knows at all. it could be an entirely different entity from an entirely different timeline, but he never thought she’d come; with everything that happened in the past, it was a miracle, really. but warren isn’t one to feign indifference, he lets her know he knows her - because there’s a slim chance she may know him, too.
“trying to save the world, believe it or not. what are you doing here, m? you always show up at the strangest times, huh?”
angel-- a familiar face, finally, in the midst of overly crowded blurs within the house. raven never had the best relationship with others, but she could be civil when needed and in the case of angel . . . well they were quite alike in their back and forth relations when it came down to the fight for good or evil. she could attest to that, AT LEAST. as long as they carried no bad blood, in this moment, raven could and would be civil. “ if you’ve been dragged here, then i suppose i can semi-believe..” she sighed, a lighter tone in her words than previously. “ trust me, if i had the option, i wouldn’t bother being here-- considering circumstances though, that hasn’t been much of an option here. ” truly, if the whole aspects of the future didn’t effect her own life.. she truly wouldn’t have bothered as much to assist, at least to this front.
