Did You Guys Enjoy the Film?

Hey Guys,

Its been a minute since we posted on our tumblr (We started tweeting a lot more) but here's a few updates:

WE RELEASED THE FILM APRIL 18TH! HOORAH! You can watch the film at darkhorsems.vhx.tv for $4.50. We decided to donate a percentage of the proceeds to relief efforts in the MS towns that were affected by the tornadoes in May. Please spread the word about the film! Not only will it help us raise the funds to restore these towns, it will help us in our future film endeavors with the Dark Horse MS project.

THIS ISN'T THE END - We plan to do follow ups with the artists we featured in the film, later this year. We also want to find more artists to follow and welcome into the Dark Horse family! Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions!

NEW UPDATE. 3/24/14

Hi guys,

A lot has happened in the past 6 months. CoCo is continuing her education at MSU, while I packed up and moved to Los Angeles, for the sole purpose of networking and getting the word out about the film! If it were up to me, I'd be back home in MS but you gotta do what you gotta do. LA is a temporary home for me for the meantime.

So some new info:

We are putting the documentary online on April 5th! FINALLY right?! We are so excited for you guys to finally be able to see the finished product. We really worked hard on it and we enjoyed documenting yalls stories! We ask that in order to support our efforts to continue the Dark Horse project, you guys pay a small fee to view it on the day of its release. Originally, we were going to have a premiere screening where the tix would be $7 a piece. Unfortunately, we both have a lot going on which is currently preventing us from doing the screening! :( so in lieu of that, we're planning DARK HORSE DAY in May! (more details about this event coming soon...its going to be awesome!) but anyway, we ask that you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share the film with family and friends... any donations would be gladly appreciated because Co and I have plans to document more artist stories in MORE regions and your donations make it all possible. :) When the film goes up, you will be able to pay the fee to watch the film and donate more, if you choose to.

Hi, (Sorry if this looks weird, I typed it on my phone) this has been a really long journey. A year ago, Ariel and I promised each other we were going to bring this project to life. We also promised each other that we would never compromise our vision or sacrifice the integrity of this project for financial gain. We've had our ups and our downs. There was a point in time where we thought everything was going to be taken care of, but we were wrong; sometimes God puts you in certain situations in your life to test your resilence, and I honestly feel like we passed. There are certain things we have gone through that could've made us quit, but we didn't let any of those things stop us from what we set out to do. Dark Horse MS is more than just a film - its a movement. And its not even solely for Mississippians, its for anyone who has ever felt pre-judged, underestimated, or overlooked. its for anyone who has ever felt like they didn't have a voice. The goal of this film is to show that no matter where you are or what you've been through, you have the power to defy the odds. Don't ever let anyone tell you you can't be or do anything. Use that as even more of a push to prove them wrong, but mainly prove it to yourself. Follow your dreams and fight with every ounce of your being to make sure your dreams come true. You only get one life. More than anything, we hope this film opens a lot of people's eyes. there are many valuable lessons throughout this film. Everybody will learn SOMETHING. I can't wait for what's in store. Here is our official trailer to our film. It is completed and has been submitted into one major film festival so far. UPDATE: 8.18.13 - FILM FESTIVAL CIRCUIT / WE NEED YOU/ETC

FILM FESTIVALS & JUNK

We plan to submit this film to several film festivals, including sundance (DL: Sept 23) and sxsw (DL: oct 31) We are doing small festivals, big festivals, domestic festivals, foreign festivals - EVERYTHING! we're going to try to submit to as many as our wallets permit because we feel you all are truly something special and we want as many people as possible to learn about you all! Editing this film is an extremely difficult and stressful process, especially since we want everything to be perfect.. but all we can really do is edit it to the best of our ability and just hope its prosperous.

Regardless of the outcome, we enjoyed making this film and we know you guys will love it! The official date for us to go viral is march 21, 2014! Yes, we know its far BUUUT that date is very important to us and we're sticking to our guns. Lol

WE NEED YOU

Although we've finished filming Dark Horse and are in the editing process, we want to make sure you guys are as involved in this project as possible. We're asking for Mississippians to submit video responses to us, answering this question:

"What does Mississippi mean to you?"

All you gotta do is film your response on your webcam, iphone, whatever and email us a link to it at [email protected] ! It can't exceed 90 seconds. You can either answer the question straight forward or get creative! Send us a poem, rap, artwork, etc! Just answer the question to the best of your ability because we will be putting your answers at the end credits and in between segments!

There is no age requirement. You don't even have to be an ARTIST. just a mississippian! film your response with your sister, cousin, grandpa, best friends, etc! Speak from the heart and use your time wisely.

SUBMIT YOUR MUSIC

submit your music to be featured in the film and/or on the soundtrack cd! WE ARE ASKING FOR ONLY FEMALE HIP HOP ARTISTS AND NON HIP HOP ARTISTS AT THIS TIME. Send your mp3s with all credits to [email protected]. If you know anybody, send em over to us!

WE'RE IN POST PRODUCTION!

Special thank you to all of our amazing artists that shared their stories with us.

Despite the hardships we went through in order to make this film, we succeeded

in capturing everything we wanted to! Our journey was indescribable.. Quite a learning experience. It was a very difficult task but it was extremely humbling and we

learned so much. We have started the editing process - not the most fun thing in the world, but being able to say that 3 twenty year olds produced, directed, filmed AND edited this film is an amazing thing to say. It speaks volumes and shows the world what we're made of.

Ending our journey was bittersweet. We had so much fun filming everyone and learning about their personal stories. There was both laughter and tears. We thank you all for opening up to us about even your most personal issues.

if you weren't chosen for the documentary, don't fret! we will have plenty of opportunities in the future for you all to showcase you all's talent. We want dark horse to be a MOVEMENT - something that ignites a flame in EVERYONE. We know what you all are capable of and it just takes having an outlet. That's what Dark Horse will be - an outlet for Mississippians first, then an outlet for the dark horses of the WORLD. ;)

The official trailer for the documentary will be released August 17, 2013. Can't wait to tease you guys with the amazing footage we got!
