“I’m sure you will.” Ayame seemed to be a very diligent girl, after all. Tsubomi was certain that with the exception of some unexpected accident, her book would be returned to her in fine condition.
And she found herself chuckling lightly as Ayame mentioned that Yuri could at times, be somewhat stifling. Although she realized the reasons behind this behavior was no laughing matter, as Yuri was most likely terrified of losing Dark Precure- no, Ayame- again, the thought of Yuri being a clingy big sister was still somewhat amusing.
“That’s just proof of how much she cares for you, Ayame-chan.” Tsubomi said, a gentle smile on her face. “She loves you a lot.”
Ayame blinked a little when the other girl seemed so sure that she’d take good care of the book, though a small smile soon made its way onto her lips. She was glad to know that Tsubomi trusted her enough to lend her something that was no doubt important.
Her smile grew softer as the pink haired girl replied to her remark, and she nodded her head slightly. Although she wasn’t sure of why, there were times when she found herself thinking that she didn’t deserve Yuri’s affection; her sister always seemed to notice and reassure her, though, even if she never said a word about it. In an ocean of unanswered questions and doubts, Yuri’s unchanging love was one of the few things she was sure of.
“Yes, you’re right, she really does.” Ayame answered, a faint pink blush on her cheeks. “I didn’t mean to say that she can be stifling like it’s a bad thing, it’s just a little… Um, unexpected? Onee-san always seems to know what she’s doing and she’s really good at handling me, but she still worries a lot. I mean, the toaster still scares me, but that’s not the point.” The black haired girl added, then blinked a little, realizing that she’d probably said too much.
“Ah, well…” Inori trailed off a little, laughing nervously in response to Ayame’s question. It was certainly right to turn in something that wasn’t yours to the police box, but just because it was right, didn’t mean everyone would do it. Yotsuba Town was a lovely place, without much of a crime problem- but she was well aware this was the case everywhere, as much as she wished it were so.
She was grateful that Ayame dropped the subject at least, turning her attention to trying to retrace her route. She noted the girl’s uncertain look, but decided not to mention anything of it- even if she hadn’t gotten her path entirely correct, they could still double back to the police box later.
“I see. Then, let’s go check out that direction, Tsukikage-san.” Inori nodded her head, beginning to head in the aforementioned direction. “Where are you from, Tsukikage-san?”
As Inori laughed, Ayame wondered if perhaps she'd said something funny. It definitely hadn't been her intention, though... There was nothing comical about returning a lost wallet to the police box, right? It was both the right and obvious thing to do, as she'd already said, so she didn't quite understand why the other girl was laughing - or why she seemed hesitant about agreeing.
After a moment of consideration, though, Ayame decided it wasn't worth it to ask. She had more important things to worry about right now, after all.
“Yes, let's.” She agreed then began to walk as well, quickly matching her steps to Inori's so they could walk side by side. All the while, her eyes were scanning the ground for a glimpse of her wallet (although in vain so far), and it took her a few moments to realize that her companion had spoken again. “Ah, I'm from Kibougahana.” She answered, looking up to give the blonde a half smile.

She was lighter than he had expected.
Granted, Olivier was stronger than the normal human, but he’d expected the small dark haired girl to be a little heavier- instead she was almost as light as a feather. He wondered again if she had been eating enough, and resolved to talk to the Baron about making sure she had a hearty meal before they even thought about looking for her family.
Of course, that would be in the morning, considering that she was drifting off almost as soon as she climbed on to his back.
“You’re welcome.” He said softly, glancing back at her as he stood up, glancing up at the Baron, the two of them sharing a slight nod. He kept his pace careful, so not to wake the small girl on his back. “Sleep tight for now.”
Dark still managed to hear Olivier's soft “You're welcome” before her eyes closed and she fell asleep in a matter of seconds, without even feeling his movements as he stood up and began to walk. She was too exhausted for something as minor as the older boy's careful movements to wake her up - but not so exhausted that her sleep was dreamless.
In the dream, Dark found herself fighting against four other people; she was older and very strong, so much so that she overpowered three of her opponents. The one left was clad in silver, a stark contrast to her blacks, and their strength was on par with hers - or perhaps even higher, as Dark wound up being thrown against a fountain.
She jerked awake before the fight could continue, back to her small, weak and lost self, heart pounding in her chest. The dream was already fading from her memory, but she vividly recalled the hatred and jealousy that had filled her - almost as if they moved her in place of a heart.
Scary... The little girl instinctively buried her face in Olivier's shoulder for comfort, her lower lip trembling.

“Oh,” was the only thing Ayame managed to say after several moments of silence. Yuri's words had warmed her heart while simultaneously shattering it, and she found herself unable to look at her sister for the time being. “Oh, I... I understand. I'm glad. Thank you for telling me, Onee-san.”
He asked you to forgive him, and said you'd always be his daughter no matter what.
“Although, I don't think that he... did anything that needs forgiveness.” She added quietly, hesitantly glancing up at Yuri. “But since he felt like he did, I'll forgive him, of course.”
She paused then, not quite finished but unsure of how to continue. It was hard to put into words, but being unable to remember her own past was more painful right now than she'd ever thought possible. She knew that she had once had a father and she knew that she'd loved him with all her being - which was why she'd asked Yuri about his thoughts in the first place, as it was unsettling not to recall whether or not he'd reciprocated these feelings.
Now that she'd learned that he had, Ayame regretted ever bringing it up; the only other thing she knew about him was the fact that he was dead.
“I wish I could tell him that.” She said finally, her grasp on Yuri's blouse tightening as she lowered her head and stared at her feet. “I wish I could see him...” the black haired girl continued, her voice becoming quieter with every word, “I wish I could see him just once and say 'It's fine, Father, whatever happened wasn't your fault'. He'd probably give me a hug, then...” She trailed off and it was almost as if she could feel his warmth against her, but then she realized that it was only the warmth of the tears that had begun streaming down her cheeks. “I'm sorry, I'm being selfish, but -”
“I wish I could at least remember him.” She finished, her shaky voice barely above a whisper, then finally wrapped her arms around Yuri as well.

“Thank you!” He sat down and started swinging, kicking his legs back and forth. He made sure not to look directly at her until the swing was far enough back - no sign of her wing anywhere.
He kept swinging, even giggling a bit (all for show, of course) for a few minutes, trying to see if he could convince her to let her guard down. After all, what was reasonable about being nervous about a kid?
He launched himself forward once the swing had slowed enough, and stumbled forward a bit, before running back to the swing and sitting down again. He rocked slowly, just enough to move back and forth a bit, and offered her another smile.
“Aren’t you going to swing? it’s fun!”
“No problem.” Ayame muttered in response, without looking back at the boy. He soon began to swing and she decided to let him be, returning to her thoughts. It would be good if she could recall some more of her dreams, at least more than the usual glimpses of a girl clad in black with a single wing and that beautiful silver lady… She wondered if those dreams had any meaning, if it was even normal to dream of the same things over and over and over again.
She could never find answers to any of these questions, but today it was even harder than usual, with the creaking swing and the giggling boy next to her. Maybe she should just stand up and go somewhere else, especially considering the nervousness that she still felt, but as soon as that idea occured to her he spoke yet again.
“I suppose.” Ayame answered after a moment, realizing that she’d forgotten to actually swing and starting to do so, lightly at first but gradually going higher. He was right, it really was fun. Besides that, she couldn’t just leave a small child alone in the park, as much as her instinct told her to - but maybe his parents were actually around, then it wouldn’t be a problem.
“… Say, are you here by yourself?”
… No.
No, it couldn’t be. He’d watched her fade - it had been amusing to see, honestly - right before finishing off Professor Sabaku. She was dead. They were both dead.
So why was Dark Precure alive, and why did she look human? No matter - even projecting himself from the Precure Mirage, he could get answers. It was just a matter of wearing the right face.
“Excuse me, miss? Can I sit on that swing?” He gestured to the swing next to her, the most innocent smile he could pull on his face.
Sometimes, when her thoughts became too much to bear, a walk could be just the right thing to clear her mind. Today, Ayame had ended up at the local park, which was more or less empty since it was late afternoon. The few passersby hardly spared her so much as a glance, and to be honest she was grateful for that. Despite how much she appreciated Yuri’s constant love and reassurance, being by herself once in a while was necessary too.
Her peaceful time didn’t last long, though. In fact, she hadn’t been on the swing for five minutes when someone spoke up. Well, at least they were nice enough to ask for permission instead of simply plopping down next to her.
However, when she looked at the little boy standing in front of her, Ayame couldn’t return his smile. Not only that, but she felt a chill run down her spine and her grip on the ropes of the swing instinctively tightened - only to loosen up a moment later. Don’t be silly, it’s just a child.
“Yes, go ahead.” She nodded curtly, averting her gaze and hoping that this kid wasn’t of the talkative sort.
Ayame tends to walk very quietly even without meaning to, and people usually don't notice her until she's right behind them.
“Well, the good news is that in this town, if someone else finds it, they’re most likely going to take it to the police box.” Inori told her, not seeing anything that looked like it under the bench, and got back to her feet, brushing some dirt off of her skirt.
Looking back towards Ayame, Inori brushed a stray hand from in front of her eyes. “So if we don’t find it here, we can retrace your steps, and then check with the officer at the police box if we still can’t locate it. I’m sure that we’d find it there if we can’t find it anywhere else.”
“In this town?” Ayame repeated, getting back up and blinking at the other girl, her head tilted to the side. “I thought taking a lost thing to the police box was what people did everywhere... They do in my hometown, too. And it's only right, isn't it?”
“Anyway,” the black haired girl continued after a moment, “it doesn't look like my wallet is around here... I came from, um -” She broke off, looking around. If truth be told, she wasn't entirely sure of where she'd come from - it was easy to get confused in the park, with all its similar trees and benches. It would be best not to trouble Inori with that, though. “That direction, I think.” Ayame finished, pointing behind her.

“Of course!” Tsubomi could only beam as Ayame shyly accepted her offer. Honestly, she was somewhat excited to have someone to share her flower hobby with. It was true that Yuri had an interest in them as well, but right now she was focusing on her studies, so Tsubomi couldn’t discuss flowers with her as much as she wanted. “I would be more than happy to lend it to you!”
“As for Yuri-san’s name…” Tsubomi trailed off, putting a finger to her chin in thought, closing her eyes. “Well, some lilies have bad meanings, so I wouldn’t think it would be any of those… maybe the white lily? It means purity, usually.”
“I guess it could also be the Lily of the Valley, which is said to mean things like sweetness, or trust. The tiger lily is known for meaning wealth, so maybe she was named with a hope for financial success in mind…”
“Oh, in that case, thank you, Tsubomi-san.” Ayame said, blinking a little at the other girl’s display of excitement, though she returned the smile after a moment. “I’ll make sure to take good care of your book for the time I keep it.”
As Tsubomi explained the meanings of various lilies, the black haired girl listened quietly, nodding her head along. It seemed that Yuri was a fitting name for her sister, just as much as Ayame was fitting for herself - and honestly, the fact that she and Yuri had matching names made her feel all warm inside.
Still, she couldn’t help feeling like she’d had a different name before... Although she couldn’t recall what it was, and so she focused on answering Tsubomi instead.
“These meanings are all very nice. I like sweetness the best, I think...” Ayame trailed off, frowning slightly. “Though Onee-san is kind of... stifling sometimes.” She finished after a moment, almost ashamed to express such a thought.
Shopping Day
This one shot is set in an universe in which Dark Precure is given a second chance by the Tree of Hearts and ends up living with Yuri, as her younger sister Tsukikage Ayame.
Universe: Heartcatch Precure
Characters: Yuri Tsukikage, Ayame Tsukikage, Erika Kurumi, Momoka Kurumi
Summary: The Kurumi sisters decide to get Ayame some new clothes.
About a month had passed since the day Ayame had been first welcomed into the Tsukikage family by Yuri, and while she still wasn’t completely used to many things (such as the toaster), her lack of clothes didn’t seem to bother her. Most of her wardrobe was composed of pieces Yuri no longer needed along with some borrowed from Haruna, and while her older sister said they’d go shopping soon, in between tutoring Ayame at home and dealing with her nightmares they never seemed to have the time.
However, the Kurumi siblings had had enough of this.

“It’s no problem.” Inori shook her head. It really wasn’t, after all- it was natural to help someone when they were troubled. She had always thought that, ever since she was a little girl. It was something that her father had made sure she had learned from a young age, wanting her to grow up to be a kind and generous girl. “I have faith that we’ll find it.”
“A dark brown wallet, I see.” Nodding her head, she blinked a bit at the mention of a sister, before putting it out of her mind. “Did you lost it in this exact area?”
Even as she asked that question, Inori began searching for the wallet, peering underneath a nearby bench. If push came to shove, she could always ask the birds that were twittering about for their help- she was certain that they could ferret it out for them.
Even as she glanced towards the floor in an attempt to find her wallet, Ayame felt a little disheartened- it had been really careless of her to lose such an important thing just like that, after all. Upon hearing the other girl's optimistic remark, though, she seemed to cheer up somewhat, nodding her head before blinking at the question that followed.
“Well, yes.” The black haired girl answered after a moment. Truth be told, she wasn't familiar with this park at all and most of her attention had been focused on finding the donut stand - so she could have dropped the wallet somewhere else, but since she'd first noticed that she no longer had it with her in this area it was probably the best place to start looking. “I think so, at least.” She added, bending down to check behind a trashcan.

“Yes, they do.” Tsubomi nodded her head. “When I was growing up, my mother and grandmother taught me all sorts of things about flower language. It’s really interesting. I have a book on it that I can lend you, if you like?”
With that offer on the table, she smiled a little as Ayame asked after the meaning of her new name. Tsubomi was glad that she seemed to be taking to it rather well, she had honestly been a bit worried about suggesting it to the girl in the first place. But now she saw that her worries were unfounded- more and more, the former Dark Precure was proving herself to be a rather sweet, if not somewhat socially awkward girl.
In other words, Tsubomi could somewhat relate.
“Iris means good news.” Tsubomi told her with a small smile. “It’s also been known to mean loyalty as well. Your sister’s name Yuri… well, there are various types of lilies, and all of them have different meanings, so that one is more difficult.”
“Oh, I see.” Ayame said, nodding as Tsubomi told her about how she'd learned flower language growing up. At the other girl's offer, however, she couldn't help but blink - before giving her a grateful if not somewhat embarrassed smile. “Well, if you're alright with lending it to me...”
Her smile only grew when she heard the meaning of her new name. By its ring alone, “Ayame” had appealed to her already - but knowing that it meant such nice things made it all the more special somehow. Although... “Loyalty”, was it? For some reason, the dark haired girl had a feeling that this word should remind her of something. Perhaps of someone she was loyal to? Well, that would probably be Yuri - but no, this wasn’t quite it...
Realizing that Tsubomi was speaking again, Ayame did her best to push such thoughts aside and focus on what was being said instead, even if she wasn’t able to smile again.
“Ah, that makes sense.” She said, then paused to consider something. “Is there perhaps a meaning that you think fits Onee-san better than the others?”
Out shopping
Seiji blinked, unable to help but notice that Ayame seemed to be mulling over something- but whatever it was, he sensed that perhaps it was best not to ask. They had only just met after all, and in spite of the strange sense of connection he felt with her, he couldn’t just suddenly ask her such a personal question entirely out of the blue like that.
At her question, he could only give her a small- though it was clearly one hampered by sadness. “I get by.” He told her. “I’ve been doing it for a long time, after all, and it’s just something I have to take on a day by day basis.” He said, before looking forward again.
"Besides that, I don’t want to trouble anyone. My friends, my mom and little sister… they all have their own problems to worry about." Seiji said, briefly closing his eyes. “But honestly, even if there was someone I could ask,” and really, there was, surely Blue would have some kind of answer in regards to the mystery of his body-
"I’m not sure I would want to know the answer sometimes."
Ayame listened quietly as they boy spoke, occasionally nodding her head. In spite of the frustration she often felt regarding her utter lack of memories, she could relate to his words somewhat - as confusing as it was, she wasn't entirely sure if she really wanted to learn about her own past. Yuri looked quite sad whenever the topic was brought up, too, and that was something the black haired girl couldn't stand seeing - so she usually avoided the subject altogether.
Even with Seiji, whom she undeniably felt a strong connection with, it was still difficult to talk about something like that openly - not because she thought he wouldn't understand, but because finding the words to express her own feelings clearly proved to be a difficult challenge every time she tried to do so.
“I can understand that,” was everything Ayame could think of to tell him after a while in silence. “Either way, since I don't have anyone I could ask, I try not to worry about it.” She added, giving him a slight smile, though it quickly faded. “That doesn't work too well, though.”
"We’re currently staying in a hotel not far from here." The Baron said, standing back up to his full height again. “Well, we’ve only got two beds between the two of us, but Loup-Garou’s bed is certainly large enough to share.”
"I don’t really mind, but what about you?" He asked, glancing down at Dark. "I can always sleep on the couch if you don’t want to share, so you don’t have to worry about me."
Noticing that the black haired girl seemed to be getting very tired, he blinked a little, wondering if she would be able to make the walk back to the hotel. It wasn’t that far from here, granted, but she looked like she might fall asleep at any moment.
Giving the girl a soft smile, Olivier knelt down in front of her. “Here, I’ll carry you there. You look exhausted.”
“Oh, don't worry, I'm okay with sharing the bed.” Dark said after a moment, trying to rub the sleepiness off of her eyes - though this quickly proved ineffective. Honestly, she would've agreed with anything at this point, even with the option of letting the older boy keep his bed and using the couch herself, as long as she got to sleep.
Thus, the little girl didn't even protest when Olivier offered to carry her. She briefly wondered if he would be able to do it with how short he was, but pushed the thought aside and wrapped her arms around his neck, carefully holding onto him.
“Thank you, Olivier-oniisan.” She said quietly, letting out another yawn as her eyes began to close.
