Winter Holidays
@darkness-and-nothing-more
Christmas was a strange concept for Xharas. She never really celebrated it when she was a Somebody in Twilight Town – so why start now? The dark fae didn’t understand the fascination with it either. Did people truly need a reason to buy gifts for someone? Well..actually, the more she thought about it, the more she liked the idea.
Xharas took her free time after her latest mission to visit Christmas Town to buy a gift for a certain illusionist. Upon her return to the castle, she made her way to the library while he sat at a table. Even though she knew he could track her scent, a mix of lavender and charcoal, she carefully placed a cool hand over his eyes as she held a gift bag behind her back.
“Guess who?~” she purred into his ear.
Zexion was sat in the library, using Lexi to try and find some spells or potions that would brighten up the castle.
Christmas wasn’t his favourite holiday, but he knew it was important for the other Zexion. Plus, it might impress a certain lady who was coming up behind him.
He waved his hand where Xharas couldn’t see to dismiss Lexi, feigning surprise at the hands over his eyes.
“Uhh… Marluxia?” He smirked
Her nose twitched at his reply. “Ew..no.” Xharas removed her hand from his eyes before taking a seat beside him at the table. Holding out the bag in her arms, Xharas offered it to him. “I know it’s early but I got something for you. Though..after that comment, I don’t know if I should hand it to you."she says, slowly pulling the bag closer to her.
Zexion turned and gave a playful pout.
"You put so much effort into a present, why would you only tease me with it?" He hummed, taking the bag and peeking inside.
Trials of the Fallen
@darkness-and-nothing-more — From Here
With Xharas off of the dragon, she went to Zexion’s side while the bewitched version of her past self taunted her former lover. This scene was getting all too awkward. Was it right for them to stay?
She didn’t have to worry about it much as the spirit of the child tugged on Xharas’ cloak. “Pretty lady..! Come with me! I need to show you something.”
“What is it?” she asked softly, though she felt a sense of foreboding as she looked at the ghostly form. Wasn’t this child crying a second ago? Something wasn’t adding up.
Instead of answering, the child opened a door to an abandoned craft store before walking into the doorway, looking back to her for a second to ensure she followed.
Xharas bit her bottom lip. “Hey Zexion, would you mind coming with me to follow the creepy ghost kid?”
Zexion gave a short nod, moving to follow close behind and gesturing for Lexi and Alex to follow.
The two books were hesitant. They followed but were unsure of it.
“It’s better than staying here,” Alex whispered.
“I hope you’re right,” Lexi sighed.

Do you know what we mind be up against
The words appeared shaken. Lexi wasn’t really used to being in these scenarios without it being in her own control.
Following behind the child, Xharas could hear the soft whispering of a children’s song sang in Gaelic. She could vaguely understand it, but not enough to piece things together. Her steps seemed to echo as she went through an abandoned library. Xharas paused in her steps, just barely missing a massive hole in the ground.
“What the–?! Careful where you step guys! Ugh..I can’t see a thing in here..”
——-
Seeing the message on the page that Germy had was no surprise. He wanted to help but..his oath of secrecy for what laid there held him back. But he couldn’t very well leave her hanging.
‘That place is dangerous..even before it was abandoned. I’m not allowed to tell you much but prepare for a magical fight..and watch your step. The keeper of that place was rather mad.’
Lexi shuddered at the song, looking over to Aleks who looked equally creeped out. They exchanged a few silent thoughts on whether to translate it or not, but eventually argued that Xharas would if it were important. Still, Aleks moved further forward, fluttering to Xharas' side as pages ready to defend.
"It may be trapped... more so than the obvious," Zexion gestured at the floor before putting a hand under his chin, "light would be invaluable now... if we can find something to burn, Aleks can light it..."

Christmas/Winter Starters:
“Guess who signed us up to go Christmas caroling?”
“Sorry, it’s not me, it’s the eggnog.”
“Don’t get mad, but I think I set the Christmas tree on fire.”
“What must Santa have been smoking to think his reindeer can talk?”
“If me and Santa got into a fight, who do you think would win?”
“I guess someone’s not getting any use out of that slutty Santa outfit they bought.”
“All in saying is no one would catch us if we chopped down a tree.”
“I tried to buy one of those singing Santas but I spilled water on it and now it sounds demonic.”
“You know, you remind me a lot of the Grinch. The only difference is in the end, his heart grows three sizes, but you stay an asshole.”
“Pleaseeee? Nobody else wants to play Santa!!”
“I forgot how much work gingerbread houses were..”
“Don’t tell me this is your first hot chocolate?!”
“I swear if Frosty the Snowman doesn’t melt in the next five minutes, I’m shutting it off.”
“Umm just so you know, I’m kind of stuck in the Christmas lights.”
“Looks like you’re getting coal this year.”
“I just took an online quiz and it said I was on the Naughty List!! If it was you I could see it, but not me!”
“Are you seriously crying over Rudolph..?”
“We’re not watching Hallmark Christmas movies.”
“Cancel all your plans! We’re watching Hallmark Christmas movies!”
“What the hell kind of Charlie Brown Christmas tree did you buy?”
“I lit the fire because I want to make sure Santa knows who’s boss when he comes down that chimney.”
“What did you ask for this Christmas?”
“Will you help me go Christmas shopping?”
“Have you seriously never eaten a candy cane?”
“Is there some kind of old woman shop where they sell those weird Christmas trees made of strawberry candy?”
“Hey, I bought a paint your own ornament kit. Let’s make some!”
“Is this your first time getting/giving a present?”
“I just called to tell you Merry Christmas!”
“Will you drive around with me to look at the Christmas lights?”
“Please stop singing Christmas songs.”
“Why aren’t you singing along to the Christmas carols?”
“If you ring those dumb jingle bells one more time, I will wring your neck.”
“Oh my god is that a mistletoe..?”
“What kind of Christmas would it be if we didn’t play in the snow?”
:Beginning of Trails l Zexion:
The child looked down at her moogle doll, clinging as she spoke” I don’t remember much..One moment the pretty Sun Child came to visit, the next I heard screaming and I was separated from my parents. They were here..buying flowers to give the Lady during the festival..but something bad happened. I think the pretty Sun Child was very upset. She was yelling and screaming…there..was so much blood.” She sniffled,”..I just wanna find my parents and go home. It’s scary being alone…” ~~~ Back with the Council; a blonde male with tied back dread locks gave a pained groan. Nidal shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I should have known that she would be taken there. How ironic that they chose my niece as their spirit guide.” There were murmurs among a few of the other as to what the significance of that town. Noting that there was a message on the paper given to him; Germy gave the paper a skeptical glance before writing to Lexi. ‘That place is where our former Sun Child went rogue. Her tormented soul may be trapped there. Keep a look out for a woman who has a similar appearance of Xharas..and sporting blue wings. She is skilled with close-combat and magic. The spirits there may also be hostile..as they were caught in the cross fire of her rage. Be careful!’
“You learn to deal with it.” Zexion hummed, trying to be reassuring, “Where is the Sun Child now?”
“Be careful, if they are bystanders they may be hostile as well,” Lexi stated, thanking Germy on the paper, “I suggest that if we go to find the Sun Child, We keep Xharas out of sight for the time being.”
:Beginning of Trails l Zexion:
As she took a couple steps into the dusty road, she felt goosebumps up the lengths of her arms. She covered her arms, turning her head towards Zexion. “This place gives me the creeps..but I can’t remember anything from here..” While Xharas was walking, Rasha leaned his head on Esulea’s neck. This place was just a nightmare for him. This was the village just outside of the main town of Atlandtis – the place where he had his mind wiped clean by his own Elder and where he vaguely remembered being used as a puppet; unable to control himself to fight his lover, Selene. Here, so many innocent people died at the hand of their ‘protector’ that it caused Selene to go mad. He wouldn’t be a bit surprised if there were hostile spirits here looking for revenge. Xharas walked closer to Zexion, reaching out for his hand. “I don’t feel safe walking here alone. Mind if I stick with you?”
Lexi shivered at the thoughts, shaking her head and looking up.
“Can they still see us, Rasha?” She asked, moving closer to the man, “Do they understand, although not as much as you, what this place is?”
Zexion took Xharas’ hand, giving her a rassuring nod.
“Aleks, Lexi, be ready.”
He didn’t even bother to rise his head up; as he already knew the answer to her question all too well. “They can see us alright…but I highly doubt they know what this place is let alone what is going on.” Xharas intertwined her fingers with Zexion. Having him near gave her a warm sense of comfort. She looked ahead once more to see a spirit of a child in a night gown, holding a toy moogle in her arms. Approaching Xharas and Zexion, she paused a few feet from them. ‘ Excuse me…Are you lost too? I can’t seem to find my parents anywhere..’ While the child spoke, the broken windows in near by buildings gave a faint red glow. Rasha quickly rose his head up, feeling the rise of negative energy accumulating in the area. In the distance, he could see a faint winged figure in the sky. Swearing under his breath, he looked to Lexi, “ You guys take care of the spirits down here. I have a feeling that we are about to have unpleasant company.”
Lexi gave a nod, her eyes darting around to look for danger. Germy, you are my second pair of eyes. If there is anything I should see, tell me. She wrote.
Zexion frowned at the child, although his grip on Xharas’ hand tightened slightly.
“We are not lost.” He stated, “What happened here?”

“Of course,” Lexi nodded, “We are all here for you, Xharas. Let’s kick these trials’ ass.”
Aleks turned his head to nod to her as well before looking to Esuela.
“Lead on. Any information on the way would be most appreciated.” He told him, smiling softly.
“Well..” Rasha started, “ if this is the cavern that Esuela’s kin once lived that means..“ he looked down to his companion, who gave a toothy grin. “There is a waterfall near by! That must be where the gate is!” His ears perked up a little. “I can hear water!”
Aleks listened for it, giving a small hum.
“Wait, we won’t have to go through the water, right?” Lexi asked in panic, “Would it be behind the waterfall? Would there be room with no water behind?”
Rasha shrugged his shoulders. “To be honest, I am unsure. The portal entrance is different in every test. For Selene, she had to walk through the waterfall before it was capable of parting for me to follow. I understand your concern, however. I am none too fond of the idea of getting wet. Mage robes are best dry.” Just ahead, a waterfall was indeed in sight. Rasha tugged lightly on his dragon before looking towards Xharas and the others. “Hold a moment! You may want to wait before proceeding..” Xharas looked at the sight before them as she saw the waterfall with slightly melted snow and ice around it. But there was a blur around the water, as if a spell was halting their movement. “It’s an illusion..That much I can note..but..I can’t dispel it. Lexi..could you or Zexion dispel it?”
Lexi frowned, giving a small nod and shrugging her passengers onto Esuela carefully. She focused on the waterfall, breathing in any magic that may have been causing the illusion. This took great effort and changed her back into her book form, held up only be the energy she was excerting on the illusion.
Once Lexi was in her book form casting the magic, the waterfall started to part ways; leaving an opening for them to fly into. Inside the divided waterfall a faint familiar blue glimmer could be seen – one that could be seen as the portal that they were looking for. Xharas smiled widely, “ Nice job, Lexi! Now we can get out of this stupid frozen place..”
Lexi appeared in Zexion’s hands, still pulling in the magic to ensure no one got water (namely her).
“So, do we simply proceed or is there something we must do before we enter?” Alex asked, keeping his eyes on Lexi, “It look rather suspicious, but I can’t say I’ve seen many portals before.”
Though he was aware that the question wasn’t pointed towards him, Rasha spoke up as he looked to Zexion. “It may look suspicious but you do have to go through it. Lingering here will likely mean your friend here fails whatever test she is here for. Pressing onward is the only way to go.”
They gave a small nod, proceeding through the portal, Lexi changing back to her human form and slumping against Zexion as they passed.
As they went through the portal, an abandoned town was their first sight. Condemned buildings with broken windows and little to no life signs around. Xharas got off and looked around, noticing faint images of spirits haunting the buildings. “Something about this place..doesn’t feel right.” Rasha took a first look around and gave a loud sigh. “Shit…not here..” he grumbled under his breath.
Zexion and Lexi jumped down, Alex returning to human form and walking over to Xharas.
Lexi tried to look into Rasha’s mind, to find out what was going on.
“Xharas, does this place look familiar to you?” Zexion asked gently, “Any ideas as to why this might be the second trial? The more we know, that faster we will find answers.”

“Thank you.” Lexi blushed, giving a small smile before turning to the others and nodding in the direction of the strongest magical energy outside their party, “That way. It’s not a very recognizable source, so I’d assume that is what we are looking for?”
She’d tuned out of the conversation outside her loose page, but still frowned at the scratchy voices in the back of her head. Still, it was nothing of concern she was sure. She’d ignore them until Germy wrote again.
“How are you feeling?” Aleks asked Rasha gently, “You should be healed by now, but I’m happy to further assist if needed.”
@sarahsunlovexharas
Rasha first gave a nod. “I feel worlds better. Thank you my good man. ”
Standing up, he placed a hand on his dragon. “That would indeed be it. Knowing the gods, we won’t get there easily. ” He offers a small smile to Xharas. “I assume you can fly, yes?”
She gave a nod.“Not very well, but yes.”
“In that case, I suggest any who can’t fly to board a dragon. ~”
Zexion’s eyes widened, looking to Xharas.
“You can fly?!” He spluttered, dropping both his hands to his sides now, “I… That is quite… new.”
Aleks chuckled at his reaction, grabbing Zexion’s hand to pull him into his pages again before turning to Xharas, “He can still hear you. I think we are ready, unless Xharas would like to ride Lexi. I can simply follow as pages.”
She looks to Lexi. “Do you mind if I ride on your back? I’m not too confident in my flying abilities at the moment. .”
Lexi bowed her head to let Xharas climb on.
“Of course not. If I feel you slipping, I will pull you into my pages.” She hummed softly, “I’m surprised pinky boy didn’t offer. Last I remember he loved flying.”
“I do, thank you, but it’s different with someone sat on you.” Aleks pouted.
Xharas looked over to Aleks.“Awww..I swear I don’t weigh that much. “She gave him a cute pout, hoping to convince him that she could ride with him.
Aleks sighed, turning into a dragon with pink and purple scales.
“I cannot deny an order from my master.” He mumbled, putting his head down for her to mount him.
Lexi rose her head, grinning and taking to the sky, hovering as she waited for the others.
Giving a girlish grin, Xharas climbed on top of Aleks. Once she was settled comfortably, she hugged his neck. “Thank you, Al..I just feel guilty for using Lexi..” Seeing that they were good to go, Rasha gave Esuela a light pat instructing him to go on ahead. Taking to the skies, Esuela eased beside Lexi and looked behind him for a moment to make sure that Aleks was right behind. While in the air, Rasha couldn’t help but wonder if this test was going to have similar aspects as the one for the test that Selene went through. “Xharas, how are you with riddles?” She shrugs her shoulders a bit. “I’m okay with them. Can’t say they are my strong suit though..” she admitted. “How about you guys? “ she asked, directing her question to Lexi and Aleks.
Aleks gave a hum as an answer before following Esuela.
“I’m not all that bad.” Aleks nodded, looking at Lexi, “She’s better.”
“Talking in riddles freaks people out.” Lexi chuckled, “I learnt a lot about them doing that in my early years. I should be able to get my head around them. Zexion is also rather apt.”

"She gave him a cute pout, hoping to convince him that she could ride with him.
Aleks sighed, turning into a dragon with pink and purple scales.
“I cannot deny an order from my master.” He mumbled, putting his head down for her to mount him.
Lexi rose her head, grinning and taking to the sky, hovering as she waited for the others.
