Last day of The Outsiders Challenge!
Day 30: Johnny Cade or Ponyboy Curtis?
I can’t choose. They are both good characters.
Day 29: Best Darry moment/quote?
“You don’t ever think,” Darry broke in, “not at home or anywhere when it counts.”
“Maybe you can be a little neater, huh, little buddy?”
“You’re living in a vacuum, Pony, and you’re going to have to cut it out. Johnny and Dallas were our buddies, too, but you don’t just stop living because you lose someone.”
[crying] I thought we lost you like we did Mom and Dad. Â Â
Sure... sure little buddy, we ain't goin' to fight anymore. Â Â Â Â
You smoke more than a pack today and I'll skin you. Understood?
the Greasers are on their way to the rumble to fight the Socs] Listen, Soda. You and Ponyboy, if the fuzz show, you beat it out of there. Hey, we'll get jailed, but you two will get the boys home, you know what I'm sayin'? Â Â
Moment:
When he sees Pony after running away.
The end
At the rumble        Â
Day 28: Best Sodapop moment/quote?
“Listen, kiddo, when Darry hollers at you … he don’t mean nothin’. He’s just got more worries than somebody his age ought to. Don’t take him serious…you dig, Pony?”
I don't know, man. It's just like sometimes I have to get out. It's like I'm the middle man in a tug-of-war or something between you guys. I don't know, I can't take sides. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
...to listen to you. But when you start trying to get me to take sides. We're all we got left now. If we don't have each other, then we ain't got nothing. And when you ain't got nothin, you end up like Dally... I don't mean dead either, I mean, I mean how he was before. So please... Â Â
GODDAMN, YOU GUYS! LEAVE ME OUT OF IT
Hey, they ain't gonna hurt you no more.
Moment:
He tells Ponyboy about Sandy.
He sticks up for Ponyboy
When Ponyboy comes home from the church.
Day 27: Best Dally moment/quote?
"Johnny," Dally said in a pleading, high voice, using a tone I had never heard from him before, "Johnny, I ain't mad at you. I just don't want you to get hurt. You don't know what a few months in jail can do to you. Oh, blast it, Johnny...you get hardened in jail. I don't want that to happen to you. Like it happened to me..."
“Don’t you know a rumble ain’t a rumble unless I’m in it?”
[to Johnny. who lay dying in the hospital bed] So this is what you get for helpin' people, huh? You punk! Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
We gotta win that fight tonight. We gotta get even with those Socs! Let's do it for Johnny, man. We'll do it for Johnny! Â Â
[Smiles] Nothin' legal, man. Let's get outta here. Â
I was crazy, you know that, Pony? I was crazy for wanting Johnny to stay out of trouble. If he was smart, like me, he wouldn't be in this mess. If he was smart like me, he wouldn't have ran into that church man. You better wise up Pony. You better wise up man. You get TOUGH like me and you don't get hurt! You watch out for yourself, and nothing can touch you man! Â Â Â Â Â
You think my old man gives a hang if im dead in a car wreck, or drunk, or in jail or somethin', he doesn't care, but that doesn't bother me none. You're not going anywhere. Â Â Â Â
[to the little kids in the lot] What? Look, now don't get wise. I don't like little kids, just don't like 'em. GET OUT OF HERE! [chases kids out of the lot] Â Â
Moment:
The rumble
When he helped Ponyboy and Johnny                           Â
Day 26: Best Johnny moment/quote?
Famous Line
Well I won’t. But I gotta do something. It seems like there’s gotta be someplace without greasers or Socs, with just people. Plain, ordinary people.
Easy, Ponyboy,” he said softly, “we’ll be okay.”
I've been thinking about it, and that poem, that guy that wrote it, he meant you're gold when you're a kid, like green. When you're a kid everything's new, dawn. It's just when you get used to everything that it's day. Like the way you dig sunsets, Pony. That's gold. Keep that way, it's a good way to be...And don't be so bugged over being a greaser. You still have a lot of time to make yourself what you want. There's still lots of good in the world. Tell Dally. I don't think he knows. Your buddy, Johnny.
Moment:
In the beginning talking to Dally
The church with Ponyboy
When he stood up to Dally
Day 25: Best Two-Bit moment/quote?
What are you thinking about me becoming your personal bodyguard huh Ponyboy? Â
[hat just flew out the window] Hey, look, I got me a new hat! Â
Who you callin' bums, pal? Â
You know the only thing that keeps Darry from being a Soc is us. Â
Ponyboy, listen, don't get tough. You're not like the rest of us and don't try to be                                                   Â
Moment:Â
When he sits and watches Mickey eating cake and drinking beer                                                              Â
Day 24: Best Steve moment/quote?
This!
Moment:
Steve eating the chocolate cake.
The flip on the truck before the rumble.
I share this with two of my favorite actors.
Day 23: Best Ponyboy moment/quote?
The poem goes with the whole book.
I lie to my myself all the time. But I never believe me....
Dally was so real he scared me
Maybe the two worlds we lived in weren't so different. We saw the same sunset.
That was [Darry's] silent fear then—of losing another person he loved. I remembered how close he and Dad had been, and I wondered how I could ever have thought him hard and unfeeling. I listened to his heart pounding through his T-shirt and I knew everything was going to be okay now. I had taken the long way around, but I was finally home. To stay.
Dally Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted
Bonus: When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home.
Moment:
When he returns home from the church and sees his brothers.
Ponyboy and Johnny in the church.
