"That was taken very early on in our friendship at Cheyne Walk. Not sure what we were doing-just playing silly arses. People called me and Roger the odd couple, but we got on extremely well and went skiing and on holiday together. We played a lot of snooker and drank a lot of Carlsberg Special Brew, and that was how The Wall began to take shape.” 🖤

Alan Styles, Peter Watts and Roger Waters on the road - 1970
Alan Styles was one of Pink Floyd's main roadies for many years, and is the subject of Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast on the Floyd's album Atom Heart Mother. He is also on the cover of Ummagumma
The repeating, demented laughter heard on "Speak to Me" and "Brain Damage" belongs to Peter Watts, Pink Floyd's road manager at the time. He was also responsible for snippets of dialogue such as "I never said I was frightened of dying" from the beginning of "The Great Gig in the Sky." All of these bits were taken from the cue-card interview sessions orchestrated by Roger Waters.
Watts left Floyd in 1974 and sadly passed away only a couple of years later. Not before siring a daughter, however - Naomi Watts, who go on to star in Hollywood films like King Kong and Mulholland Drive.
AUSTRIA | 1971
“50 years ago today #PinkFloyd played their first concert in Austria at the Musikforum Ossiachersee. Some 25 years ago I was thinking about a book of Pink Floyds history in Austria and did some deep research on this particular concert. Eventhough the book is just too much work I thought its about time to share at least a small stack of pics of the event. Gilmour arrived late and on his own, the rest of the band was already there. The live pictures were taken from the soundcheck as no photographers were allowed during the show. The choir and the brass section were hired locally. The brass section was lead by Erich Kleinschuster. At Gilmours Meltdown concert I tried to get his memories on that particular night - thats btw where I got two photos signed. I started the conversation by: „Do you remember your first ever concert in Austria in Ossiach 1971?“ and he ended the conversation: „Should I really recall every fucking gig I played?“. For all the collectors out there, there was a festival programme which I am still after… there is a BASF festival Triple Lp which covers other Bands who appeared but not Floyd - eventhough they are mentioned in the liner notes. And thanks to some fan a wonderful recording survived. A recently discovered TV feature made it just in time into the Early Years Box.”
