You desperately seek a pulse, fingers jabbed into the neck, lowering an ear to the chest. There's nothing. The skin is cool to touch and for a brief moment, you wonder if it's already too late. You dismiss the thought as quickly as it entered your mind.

Panic begins to set in. You try to regain your composure but your fingers are trembling as you take hold of the head and pinch the nose to give two deep, shaky breaths. The chest freely rises and falls, cheeks expanding with your warm air flowing into the otherwise limp body.

You settle and manage to calm yourself enough to begin compressions. These require all of your strength and determination. The heart is solely relying on your efforts now, weak and helpless, unable to beat properly on its own.

You repeat the cycle over and over, your strength sapped, your hair out of place and brow glistening with sweat. Your air has filled the lungs, your hands have manually pumped the heart, but nothing seems to be working...
