you're my best friend, i'll love you forever: part one
it was a bright spring day when taehyung decided he needed to do it. he was laying with his back on the soft grass, jungkook next to him, their hands entwined. they had been like that all morning, drifting in and out of conversation. right now they were settled on silence. taehyung closed his eyes and allowed his breathing to shorten and become deeper as the wind rustled by. smiling, he opened his eyes to steal a quick glance at his best friend. a small content snore escaped the boy's lips. his facial expression was serene. taehyung admired jungkook and how pretty he looked even while sleeping. his heart fluttered sadly. this wasn't healthy. the way he thought about his best friend, the way he felt about him. loving him romantically wasn't healthy. 5 years of longing for jungkook was eating away at him. taehyung didn't realize he had begun to cry until the boy beside him started to stir.
"tae? taetae, what happened?" jungkook sat up, concerned laced in with the raspy sound of his sleepy voice.
taehyung tried to speak but only a shaky sigh left his lips.
taehyung made no effort to move so jungkook resorted to pulling the older boy on to his lap. he rubbed his back and rocked side to side in an attempt to soothe his best friend.
taehyung had his head buried in jungkook's shoulder. he hated crying in front of him so he forced himself to slow his breathing. after a while, with the help of kook's touch and his soothing voice, taehyung managed to calm down. or at least enough to form coherent sentences.
“do you wanna talk now, bub?”
taehyung looked up, “i should go now,”
“are you sure you're ok?” jungkook furrowed his eyebrows as the boy lifted himself from his lap and collected his things from the ground.
“yeah, i just want to be alone right now,” taehyung said as he began walking away.
“i'm here if you need anything taetae, you know you can always talk to me,” jungkook called out, unsure if his best friend had heard him.
taehyung had heard him. but he didn't want to look back and acknowledge it in fear of breaking down again. he just need to hold his emotions until he got to his apartment. there he could let them out without bothering anyone.
