The White Tailed Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) is a very large species of fish eagle that is found across eurasia, including Ireland, the home of this curious lady called Fota. White Tailed Eagles usually inhabit areas near large bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, and coastlines with suitable populations of fish, which is the primary food source for this species. Whilst White tailed eagles primarily hunt fish, they are known to also take water fowl such as ducks and geese, as well as scavenging where possible. The White tailed is a close relative of two other famous species being the Bald Headed Eagle (Haliaeetus luecocephalus) and the giant Steller's Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus Pelagicus). The White tailed Sea eagle is notable for its large yellow bill and its white tail which is a sign of sexual maturity with this plumage only being apparent in adults of 5 years of age and more, before this they have a mottled brown plumage with a dark tip to the bill.
