You knew it would be fun to shower with Zayne.
Mostly, it would be helpful to not have to wash your hair yourself. But also because the view was just...incredible. I mean really, how is it fair that a man with that big of a sweet tooth is in such incredible shape?
There was of course, the downsides of trying to agree on a temperature. Seriously, you knew Zayne liked it on the cooler size, but it felt like you were about to freeze to death.
You're about to beg to turn up the hot water just a little more when you hear a familiar crackle of ice. The small shower turns chilly, but before you can turn to see what's going on, a sharp pain flickers on your arm.
"Ow!" You gasp, looking to see what nicked you.
There's ice covering Zayne's arms, spreading along to his hands. But he's not focused on that. No, instead, his eyes are trained on the line of blood on your arm, slowly starting to drip downward.
It's a soft plea, one your body aches to disobey. But you know Zayne. So you know he needs a minute, leaving you to quietly slip out of the freezing shower.
You're sitting on the bed when he comes out, dressed in his lounge wear, his hair still dripping. He says nothing. But the hesitant glance towards the bandage on your arm speak volumes.
"Are you alright?" You ask hesitantly, trying not to let too much worry seep through your tone. Still, his frown only deepens as he opens the drawer and pulls out his work clothes.
"I'm going to check on some patients. You should go to sleep without me." He gets dressed without looking at you, the knot in your throat growing by the second.
"But Zayne-" Finally, his eyes meet yours.
You almost wish they hadn't.
There's desperation in his eyes, one you've never seen before. He's begging you, pleading for you to just drop this, to let him go just for tonight. You know what he's thinking, as clear as if he's whispering the words in your ear. He can't be here right now, can't lie next to you with this bandage on your arm, can't shut his eyes without hearing the sound of your small body slumping to the ground all those years ago. So, as much as it pains you to do, you nod.
The door shuts before the first tear falls.
