Dash of Monsters Publishing- 2024

This year I plan to publish my first novel.

I've made a few attempts in the past but lost interest or life just happened. This year I have the motivation, the drive, and the desire to really want to hunker down and work on writing a book.

As of right now I've started my first rough draft and I'm hoping to have the opportunity to commission character and cover art.

I've set a semi strict schedule to follow that should have my first draft completed by mid-February and then I go over it for editing before I look for beta readers.

I don't plan on publishing until after I've put it through at least three rounds of drafts and edits to make sure everything is in order.

This book, if it's even semi-successful will be the first in a series of stories I share on my side blog @dashofmonsters.

Starting this month I'll be posting updates, news, and art on my characters. I don't plan to unveil the title of the book till the first draft is complete. I don't want to jinx myself by getting too hyped.

Project Update

Been in a writing funk due to life~

I'll be getting back to writing FVTV hopefully next month after I rearrange my house (I need space and my baby started to walk which means his long arms have been reaching and pulling books off the shelves) So I'll be turning my mudroom into my office and the living room into a more baby friendly space.

Once I have an office up and going I should be able to relax some more and have a better environment to write in

Trying so hard to get back into writing the first draft again. I got hit hard by STUFF so I'm trying to bounce back and set ~Healthy Boundaries~

It's also been crazy since things are snapping in and out of place and it's like "if it's not one thing it's another" right now.

Like I got my teeth fixed but now my foot has been hurt for three weeks straight and I didn't do anything to it so *shrugs*

Honestly trying to push past survival mode and into living mode is much more challenging than people care to admit. And trust me, I am tired of just surviving. Just barely being able to make it.

I started journaling as part of a healthy therapeutic way of going through my emotions and setting some simple goals and boundaries for myself and others. I've been spreading myself thin for way too long and I'm just done.

I have this unhealthy view of perfection that my grandmother fostered in me when I was growing up and through journaling I've realized how bad it is.

Online, here on Tumblr I feel like I can be real and not judged as harshly like I am in real time with people I know which kind of is nice, kind of sucks. Like wow, how bad did I screw myself over that I am too scared to make mistakes and let people know it?

That's kind of what I'm going through right now and it's something else. Like I'm taking steps back and telling myself to stop living in a land of delulu and get it the fuck together whenever I feel myself overreacting or getting overwhelmed by tiny little things.

It's not easy and if I'm being honest it's annoying XD like I'm just done. Done being sad, done walking in eggshells, and done with feeling disrespected either by myself or others.

My writing block can't decide if it wants to play Age of Empires, find new music, tackle my tbr, work on crafts, or all of the above. Thus so far I've done all of the above :/

I work on a computer all day and we've been super busy and I don't want to have to stretch my brain too much...

I've been holding onto the cover art for a couple weeks now wanting to do a big reveal but with work and mom life I haven't been able to construct the teaser to it that I wanted, so it'll be up on Patreon today!

So I've set up a Patreon so I can hopefully begin to focus more on personal art projects. I currently only have the 1 tier to allow sneak peaks into projects and early access to art, but if people are interested in seeing more or want more direct engagement I'll add more tiers. there are so many things I wish I'd done right at the outset of self-publishing.

get a separate checking and credit card account. like immediately. now my money is all mixed up and it's difficult to keep track of income and expenses.

find your (pen) name on every possible platform and register it to yourself

get a domain name and a professional (not free) email address

start building an email list

have a good website and make it easy to contact you directly

take plenty of breaks

I feel like I should stress that last one more. build in time off. have hobbies that give you pleasure besides writing or marketing or admin. (yes admin is a hobby of mine pls don't make fun of me)
