DC VILLAINESSES
Dazzler #26
Danny Fingeroth - Script
Frank Springer - Pencils
Joe Jusko - Cover
MarvelÂ
1983
Probably the most depressing thing about pop culture is when it fails to effectively recognize itself. Â
Fingeroth makes early 80’s New York look about as exciting as rural Nebraska.  With all the musical weirdness shifting around then, it appears that Marvel’s writers took a deliberate conservative stance on Dazzler’s image.  Sex object aside, even her disco vibe is decidedly friendly - Studio 54 minus every vice, including a 4/4 beat.
Oh Well: Dazzler’s half sister just discovered that she’s a mutie - the kind that unintentionally kills both friend and foe.  Daz decides it’s best for the the two to hit road after Sis fries her would-be assailant.  The issue ends with Ms. Blaire going incognito and scolding her half sib for being a big baby about uncontrollably frying things.
Springer’s drama between Sis and herself are compelling.  The sharp angles he renders echo a wonderful trashiness reminiscent of Drake’s and Starr’s Kelly Green.
Only gripe: what the fuck was Springer referencing for a cat in image 7?
It was shown today, so I’ll post it here. The cover to All-New X-Factor 06 by Jared Fletcher and myself

The Cheetah takin' down Batman and The Flash!
"She moves as fast as The Flash… And she’s got an unbelievable bloodlust."
I loved Sleepwalker as a kid, even though his villains were pretty lame. Except Spectra was awesome! Rainbow skinned, torn floating rags for clothes, multi-powered diamond, harsh critiques and an origin born out of desperate love and rage.
Mystique gets some pretty prominent placement on 3 new X-Men Days of Future Past posters. I'm glad she's a big part of the film. Jennifer Lawrence's portrayal of her in First Class was one of biggest emotional beats of that film and I look forward to seeing her develop into the kick-ass villainess she becomes in the original trilogy.
More gorgeous Elektra preview art by Mike del Mundo. Looks like she’s taking Scalphunter and lady Bullseye!
Gypsy Moth is a great rival for Spider-Woman. You sorta want them to be friends but love it when they fight!
