11- Again with the changing of the colors! This time to the final way. I had the scene in TFTM where the Junkions were re-assembling Ultra Magnus in mind, like they had disassembled shockwave and were putting new purple parts on him or something.

15- Final pass. Transferred the page from RBG to CMYK and did some final tweaking and thats it!

I remember back working on the page being alright with the way this page turned out [that I survived it on a deadline probably hah] but looking at it now I wish I woulda done something more with the colors to give it more of a better mood. Something more dramatic. OH WELL

Since you asked I had to go look up the page and since I was already there, why not some process pics!

1- inks!

2- flats!

3- Usually I keep my bkg and character flats on their own layers but since there wasnt much of a bkg I kept it all on one layer. Not that thats really here nor there, but here’s some rendering! Airbrushed highlights and hard edged shadows for the bkg bits and just two color cel shading for the characters!

4- Now comes the fun part: Deciding Shockwave’s colors! I originally did him up in his blue/white/red colors we last saw him in but we wanted to make the visual transition into the Shockwave we all know and love so I just tried a full on Shockwave color scheme here

5-  But I/we wanted to make the change evident so I thought well how about they werent done painting him and some of his old colors shined through

6- And then for the heck of it I thought why not try him in his TF:Animated/Shackwave sorta colors

7- And I wasnt quite sold on Lobe and misc. scientist guys colors so I tried changing them

8- Time for some subtle glow fx, added some shadow over shockwave/behind scientist guy to keep things from looking messy/separate the planes a little bit

9- Back to Shockwave colors? [I was very undecided the whole way through this page :P]

10- Playing around with the color balance!

Decided to post this up here since it’s buried in twitter. I’ll try to record a comic page being done with commentary next year sometime! lineart is by markerguru001, of course. Brilliant lines on his end! Was very fun to work with characters in forms I haven’t colored in a while! Drift’s original design is still my favorite out of bias, and I always love coloring Alex’s movie Starscream. I’m very glad G2 Megs made it in; I wanted to color Grimlock in his comic colors, but decided against it since there was too much blue in that corner already. If you look at it the right way, the image is broken up into almost a slight color wheel of TF’s. We start with blues at the top, move into greens, then reds and pinks(and the one purple from Airachnid) with white being at the bottom or whatever. It’s not a PERFECT color wheel, but it’s close. Pretty sure this wasn’t planned that way, but it’s a nice coincidence!

Finally finished the drawing for days..!! O)-< Befriending who’s under IDW, Josh is such a kind and helpful person. He helped me about information of conventions and IDW, and there I started to get interest in applying;; (っ´A`ｃ) I started to try my best to make myself used on such detailing on robots, let alone the coloring style. I hope to meet him one day in Botcon too..!! (((ノｯ゜∀゜)ノｯ
