Day seven: Engagement
Dib stared silently at the small casing in his right hand as he leaned back against the newly placed fence on mystical hill, patiently, but also anxiously waiting for someone to arrive. They did this every year at this exact time and location. He would wait and be almost completely silent, the cold winds of winter and the small traffic commotion from the city below being the only source of noise. He was always glad that no one else seemed to be interested in coming to this place during winter. He wasn’t sure if it was because of the weather or the rather
negative history this place had. Both were understandable in his opinion.
The sound of crunching snow singled him to look up and to stuff the case in his coat pocket, pushing himself off the barrier as the one he was waiting for finally arrived. He smiled when she was illuminated from the light that shone the area, walking just past the tree line as she trudged through the snow on the small dirt path that cut through the forest. “Sorry that I arrived a bit late, the path was slippery.” Tak said as she pulled her purple hood down, revealing her face.
She wasn’t wearing her disguise. She must have noticed that no one else was around.
“Oh, it’s okay. I wasn’t waiting for long.” Dib said as he walked over to hug her.
Tak sighed, feeling comfort in Dib’s warm body embracing her. She never got used to the cold or the routinely changing seasons of Earth, even after staying on this planet for a decade. Luckily, Dib always made sure she stayed warm, making sure she remembered to put on her coat, hat, gloves, scarf, boots and to snuggly wrap her in a warm blanket whenever she returned home after a particularly cold day. Pulling away, Dib took her hand and brought her over to the barrier where he leaned over the edge while Tak stood straight with her hands folded over each other.
“So, how was your day?” Dib asked.
“It has been alright. A bit less active than usual, actually. So I spent most of the day thinking about this.” Tak answered, taking her eyes off the city as she glanced down to Dib.
“How was work for you?”
Dib shrugged “Kinda boring. I also just thought about coming here.”
Tak laughed lightly “So we have both been looking forward to this thanks to uneventful days?”
“Hehe, y-yeah, I guess.” Dib laughed with her as he stood up straighter.
“How is Alejandra doing? Did you hear from her?” he then asked.
Tak tilted her head “Hm? Oh, yes, I spoke to her over the phone earlier this morning. Her health is improving, but she is still quite ill and doesn’t want to return too soon in case she gets any of the patients sick. And what of that new employee? What was his name? Joshua?”
Dib nodded “Yeah, Joshua. He still seems pretty nervous, completely opposite from how I was when I started working at the Swollen eyeball.”
The Irken nodded as they both turned to look over the city. It went silent again, the snowflakes gently falling all around them as they continued to cover the ground and the city below, the winds of winter peacefully flowing through the trees. It was almost exactly like how it was ten years ago when they first came here. The atmosphere was remarkably peaceful despite the events of that time. It hasn’t been this peaceful in years, so this was turning out better than he hoped. And that was his que.
“Do you remember when we first came here when we were younger?” Dib asked.
Tak looked over to him again and smiled “I do. You were fifteen, I was sixteen. It was a few weeks into the new year and told me to arrive at this location.” Tak spoke softly, the nostalgia of that time making her feel warm inside. “I thought you just wanted to spend time with me again, but I do remember that this location was a strange place to pick. You also seemed nervous when I arrived.“
“Was I really that nervous looking?” Dib rehearsed his own lines “I tried to make it look like it was just the cold that was getting to me.”
“I had a feeling you were doing that, so I played along and asked you if you needed to go back and get another coat.” Tak recalled before pausing a little “But.….you said that there wasn’t enough time and that you couldn’t wait any longer.”
“Did I scare you when I said that?” Dib turned to her. Tak shook her head lightly “You didn’t frighten me, no. But you did catch my attention. I wasn’t sure if you had a late Christmas present or you found something that fed into your paranormal or cryptic interests and you wanted to show me.”
Dib didn’t ask anything else as he stepped towards tak and took her gloved hands into his “And then I held your hands.”
“You looked me in the eyes and asked.”
“Do you want to go out with me?” they both said in union.
Dib and Tak looked longingly at each other, the moonlight bathing them in the soft white glow of the night. To them, there was nothing else in the world. No regret of the past nor worries for the future. They both existed, right there. Together.
Tak looked down at their hands, chuckling lightly again “I was quite taken aback when you asked me that, and I swear I thought you were going to pass out when I didn’t answer straight away.”
“You did say ‘yes’, though.” Dib commented.
“I had, yes.” Tak nodded “And you breathed in deeply and jumped for joy. You held my hand as we walked all the way back to your house as you told me about the place you wanted to take me.”
She then looked up towards Dib, pulling herself closer to him as the wind picked up slightly “I don’t think I could ever word out how surprised I was when you asked me out for the first time. You looked like you had returned from war when you discovered Gaz was dating Zim, so for you wanting to date me didn’t make a lot of sense. I almost thought there was another motive.”
“When did you figure out it wasn’t?” Dib asked.
“During it.” Tak answered “It was obvious you wanted both us to enjoy our time and you were becoming stressed when we both knew the restaurant was a bit" she clicked her tounge a little and sucked her teeth "unsuited for two teenagers who were going through our own struggles at the time.” “Yeah, I’m still sorry about that.” Dib said, looking off to his right at the city.
“It’s alright. You did take us to the museum and to the park after that, which was a lot better.”
Dib nodded “Yeah, we sat at the park bench and talked for hours. Our interests, our memories, how we were feeling,…..I never knew just talking to someone could mean something so much to me.”
Tak nodded in agreement, her expression calling at little as the contents of their conversation rendered her mind.
“At the time, we were both struggling and going through so much. You helped me when you" she went silent a little, catching herself to not bring up too many unpleasant memories “discovered everything and I will always be grateful for that.” Tak spoke quietly, pressing her head to Dib’s chest “But then, not long after that, I learned you were also suffering in silence. So I helped you.”
Dib hugged Tak closer and rested his chin on top of her head “Yeah. By the time of the date, we were both doing better and we were happy for each other that we were healing. And we were both glad we helped. And…..I think it was by that point.”
He stopped again and waited for Tak to finish.
Tak opened her mouth to speak, but paused before she could. She always seemed to pause before she finished her partner’s sentence despite having done it many times. But she wouldn’t let that stop her, so after a few more silent moments had passed, she eventually said “We knew that we both loved each other.”
No matter how many times they did this, Dib and Tak never got tired of the retailing of their first date and first moments of knowing what love felt like. It was so special to them that they could only relive through this retelling.
Everything was perfect. The weather, the mood, the setting, the scenery, the feeling. He couldn’t pass this moment up. Dib breathed out from his mouth, gulping the rock that formed in his throat.
“Tak, we have been through so much together.”
“Many struggles, many tough times, so many adventures, and….“ his lips went think trying to think of a right way to state it, but eventually said "a little too much action.” Dib stroked Tak’s cheek with his right hand gently “We have faced a lot of challenges, things that no human or ANYONE could ever imagine. It was scary, it was hard and…..it took all we had to get by it.”
Dib closed his eyes, remembering every single endeavor he, Tak, Gaz, Zim and his father took on in order to save themselves and humanity. It was a lot to handle and almost too much for all of them to bear at once. Some came close to giving up and letting the darkness consume them.
Almost.
“But no matter what happened” he hugged closer to him “we always stood together and took all of it on.” Dib looked into Tak’s purple eyes again, resting his hand on her cheek “No matter what came our way, we kept each other standing and pushed through. And I…”
His voiced trailed off again as he looked over to the city, more memories entering replaying through his head of everyone’s lives. Growing up, getting careers, saving Earth, having fun, helping each other, their highest and lowest moments, and when love was the only thing they could give, oh did they make sure they gave all they had. Out of compassion. Out of love.
“….wouldn’t have it any other way. I love you, Tak. I love you more than you could ever imagine.”
Tak’s mouth opened a little as a blush spread across her cheeks, her purple shining from the moon light. She didn’t care what others had to say, Dib always seemed to have a way with words. Were they corny? Maybe…..but she didn’t care.
“I love you, too, Dib. Nothing will ever change that.” Tak said as she was about to stand on her toes to kiss him, but stopped when Dib pulled away a little as he suddenly knelt down in front of her as he reached into his coat pocket.
She was about to question what he was doing, but everything became very familiar to her when he pulled out a small velvet case and opened it to reveal an amethyst silver ring. She has seen this before. In movies, in shows and in some of the books she read. And….she knew what it was. Zim did it with Gaz, she was there actually when it happened. Is Dib actually-
“Tak, will you continue to stand by my side forever so we can support and love each other no matter what? Will you" he held his breath a little “marry me?”
Time froze around them, the sound of the winds halted as the city fell silent, the flakes of snow seizing their descent down onto the Earth. It was as if the entire world made sure there was no distraction as it waited for Tak’s answer. It just made everything that much more surreal for Dib. There was nothing else. Just them, right there.
Tak’s eyes were wide and her mouth was slightly agape, but she didn’t look as surprised or shocked as Dib was hoping. She was taking this a little too casual. His chest tightened as an iron clutch gripped it tightly as he felt his breathing speed up. No, no, d-did he screw it up? Did Tak know what he was doing? Was she not ready? Did she not like the idea of being married? No, there could never be another chance like this again. Everything was going perfectly, why did it have to-
“Yes.”
Dib shook his head a little, snapping him out of her anxious daze “Wh-what?”
“Yes!” Tak repeated, repeatedly nodding her head as the biggest smile gradually spread across her face and from where he was, Dib could see small beads of tears roll down her cheeks.
Huh. Wow, she must be really emotional right now. She doesn’t allow just anyone to see her cry, so this could mean someth-
Dib stood up quickly as Tak jumped towards him and embraced him tightly as she repeated ‘YES!’ over and over again. It was only until then Dib finally registered that she accepted, so he put the ring back in his pocket and hugged her back and almost lifted her off the ground. Pure relief washed over him as he felt his heart grow so big he thought his chest was going to burst. Tak pulled away this time as she pulled him down for a deep and passionate kiss, Dib reaching up and holding her head in his hands to deepen it. As the kiss ended, the couple stared into each other’s eyes and almost got lost in them, Dib wiping her tears away with his thumbs while Tak gently rubbed his left cheek.
Taking each other’s hands, the couple walked over to the barrier and stood together as they watched the city again, the lights of the buildings, streets and stars now illuminating differently. Like everything was calmer and peace fell upon the area. Tak leaned into Dib and let out a relaxed sigh
This was it. The beginning of their next stage in their lives. And after this, what next? Well, the next stage is obviously starting a family together and-
Dib took in a breath and tried to slow his heart rate down. He was getting a little bit too excited now. But can anyone blame him? He is going to marry the love of his life. And just a week after they both got their promotions at work as well. He didn’t worry about where to have the wedding, who to invite, who might be his best man, no. There was time for that later.
Just enjoy the moment he has with his fiance, for there was nothing else. Just them, right there.

Datr Week, Day Seven: Music (What If by Kane Brown)
Datr Week, Day Seven: Music (What If by Kane Brown)
The reverberant night air abruptly grew silent with the final utterance of his vehement speech, yet the tension remained as the night grew still once more. Rigid they stood, with hearts beating and eyes staring, they squared off against one another upon that lone, grand balcony.
A sudden chill went down Tak’s spine as her bare, hologrammed skin pressed against the frigid stone column. The whipping winds from the ravine below did little to help with her temperature situation, flipping up the long skirt of her backless gown. At least that’s what she told herself.
Her pride wouldn’t allow it as she glared back into his determined gaze. No, she would not admit to it. That the way his chest and shoulders bobbed with each panting breath made her insides squirm, or the way his usually warm, brown eyes burned with a tenacity that set her aflame from squeedilyspooch out to the tips of her antennae. She felt her skin, particularly at the back of her skull, tingle, and she fought the urge to shudder once more.
This was ridiculous.
This damn cold weather was ridiculous!
With a disapproving frown Tak snapped her head down and to the side, away from him. Away from his eyes. Her crossed arms drew closer to herself, almost protectively, as Dib waited on baited breath for her answer.
Despite turning her head, she could feel his eyes on her. She couldn’t escape their fire nor the hint of despair, pleading to listen to him. To let go. To take this chance.
Yet she couldn’t. There were too many obstacles, too many variables, and too many outcomes. To dedicate one’s life to something so fickle, so delicate, so, so, so…so human. The potential pain and safety was a risk she couldn’t take while banished to this lonesome, backwater planet. Her instincts screamed at her to focus on survival, as she always had. She was better off alone, for others’ had and will only bring her pain. And yet…
And yet Tak didn’t want to be alone. Sure it was necessary to watch your own back, but it was tiring. She was tried, especially after being stranded on a planet that would sooner rip you open for study than bother to ask questions. It would be so nice to have a…a partner. Someone to talk to who knew what it was like to give your all to your race, yet considered as different and shunned for it. Someone who understood. Someone smart and easy to talk to who could let her relax because she knew he had her back. It was a nice thought to entertain. One she yearned for, not that she would dare admit, and one that tempted her….
She could feel the blessed warmth radiating off of Dib’s body as he stood so close. The stark contrast of which practically sucked what little warmth she had left into him. Like her lost warmth, her gaze drew back to his, back to his natural warmth, as she defiantly met his stare. It was so very tempting to just reach out, to touch him, to take in his warmth to…
Tak’s arms loosened and her hand twitched, a motion his bespectacled stare hardly missed. Within the reflection of his glasses she watched her angry, stoic expression soften just a smidgen. For a second, he perked up, and a ray of hope shone in his eyes.
His final speech to her, to let where this awkward yet passionate dance that they did around each other for months, toeing the line of what they should and shouldn’t, echoed through her mind once more. One particular phrase that made her almost lean in….almost…
The doubts stopped her. Her arguments of why they shouldn’t, why she shouldn’t, and of why they should even bother ran through her head, desperately clawing to the forefront. Her chest felt tight, and she jerked back. She grew closed off again, and ignored his outstretched hand.
Tak’s head snapped to the other side, overlooking the banister to sea the thick pines below. Her eyes clenched shut to avoid seeing his face grow somber and pained.
Suddenly, the scratch of shuffling feet caught her attention, and she looked up. His back was turned to her, and he was walking away. He was walking away!
Her eyes grew wide and heart froze as she panicked. He didn’t look back, and fear gripped her that he wasn’t coming back. That if she didn’t stop him now, he wouldn’t. Before he would always look back when she would finish establishing the status quo, but now he….but now…
But what if…
He was out of arms’ reach
Now or never!
Warmth. That’s all Tak could feel before she registered what happened and what she did, as she stood with one foot forward, arm outstretched. Her brain slowly caught up to her as she stared at her hologrammed hand clutching at the crook of his elbow, stopping Dib dead in his tracks.
For a moment, the world stopped at the spark of that touch, shooting electricity through them.
Slowly, ever so slowly, he partially turned his body back towards her to stare. His eyes watched her for any sign of doubts, tricks, or second thoughts. Searched her soul for what secrets that dwelled behind her hopeful, amethyst eyes. Meanwhile she did the same, searching for his warmth, for any sign of ill intentions, or for any lack of will.
After a millisecond of soul searching and soul bearing, Tak frowned and her brow furrowed as she looked down, down at their joined hands. Blood roared in her antennae as she fought to keep her composure. A relatively easy task as all of her anxiety melted away at the tentative tightening of his fingers. Their warmth enveloping hers. She felt vulnerable, and she hated it, yet it oddly wasn’t so bad as the earlier phrase, the one with so many varied meanings, repeated in her head. Despite her vast vocabulary, both Irken and English, Tak found her mind void of anything else to say except for two words.
“What if,” Tak murmured softly, leaving the rest unsaid for she didn’t know what else to say, as her eyes drifted back to his. Earlier, she had used this phrase many times in a negative light; however, this time was different. This time there was an unusual, hopeful hint to it that was full of uncertainty.
For the last time that night, their eyes met, and Tak felt a flood of relief flow over her. Fully facing her with a soft smile, staring into Dib’s eyes was like bathing in a field of sunlight. At the sight of the dopey, knowing, and warm look on his face, Tak’s confidence and defiance to replace that borderline smirk on his face grew, and so did her boldness
The wind flared up again to flare her dress and tussle her holographic hair as she suddenly tugged him forward. Dib let out a gasp as his suited chest met hers harder than he was expecting. He always did have a habit of underestimating her strength. Her right arm wrapped around his lower waist in an almost protective and possessive manner. She always did find delight in his reactions and of throwing him off guard.
With her left she would’ve been content to just hold his wrist, where it slid from its previous perch in the crook of his arm, but Dib had other plans.
Her heart and anger briefly leapt up into her throat, as Dib shook that hand away. However, this feeling quickly morphed into a pleasant one as Dib grabbed her hand, slowly pressing their palms together, and spreading their fingers just to intertwine his five fingers with her three. So focused on what he was doing with their hands, Tak didn’t notice the hand at arm across her shoulders nor his head moving closer. She went to slightly jerk back, but his arm prevented her. She quickly calmed down as he leaned his forehead against hers, and even found herself smiling back at him.
With eyes closed contentedly he sighed, as me murmured back in confident and loving affirmation, “What if.”
They stayed like that for what felt like hours, before Dib turned their hold onto an embrace. As he settled with his forehead into the crook of her neck, blowing his warm breath against her neck, Dib let out a sigh of content relief. The look on his face made her squeedilyspooch flutter, as she felt like he was right earlier in his speech. Even if it was awfully sentimental and cheesy, but it was heartfelt and determined. The kind of determination that makes dreams into reality. That they really could love all those negative “what if’s” away.

Datr Week, Day Four: Fixing the Ship
Dib sighed in frustration as he readjusted his headlamp for what felt like the millionth time, trying a new angle that wouldn’t let the strap feel so tight upon his head. To make matters worse, his back felt itchy from lying on his skateboard for so long, and his presence beneath the crawl space of the ship made it feel claustrophobic.
A bead of sweat slid down the side of his face and towards the back of his neck, running along the side underside of the uncomfortable strap. He huffed and growled again as he ran his thumb under the strap for the billionth time. Lousy, crumby head lamp! If only his head wasn’t so- he bit his tongue as a familiar phrase wanted to instinctively escape his lips. He just knew, someone, somewhere was thinking it; which made it all the more tempting to protest the idea.
Not wanting to let masses’ fascination of his head get to his, well, head, Dib took a calming breath as he reached above his head to grab and rest his hand on a piece of dark purple Irken metal.
No need to let himself get worked up over nothing, especially when he was underneath an alien spaceship.
He shuddered at the prickling feeling at the back of his head. Another drop of sweat rolled from the tip of his head to the back of his neck in the most uncomfortable way. In a huff he removed the headlamp by it’s sweat soaked strap, throwing it into his lap, and flopping back down from his curled, crunch-like position. Why did he have to be the one working on the engine while she got to work on the outer body?
He was stuck underneath this hulking piece of alien ingenuity, with all its stuffiness and heat, while she got to work outside within the nice, mild yet crisp November air! It was unfair!
As Dib flopped back once more, the hand with the wrench in it rested on his torso. Meanwhile, he forgot to let go of his left hand, the one hand gripping the Irken metal, causing him to jerk upwards as it briefly supported his weight. Well, supported him for about 0.2 seconds, before there was a loud, scraping-snap noise, and the metal tube busted.
Dib grunted as his back met the grit skateboard harshly, his mouth opened ajar from his escaping air, but this only made it susceptible to filling with whatever mysterious liquid had been inside the tube. Whatever it was, it wasn’t pleasant.
“What was that?” Tak’s oddly accented voice snapped harshly at the sound of the metal tube clanking against the garage floor, a splattering of liquid, and the sounds of him sputtering profusely meeting her antennae. He could practically feel her criticizing, annoyed glare through the layers of metal, wires, and electronics as he scrambled to stop the flow of green liquid from the tube, staunching it with the grease rag that was in his lap.
“If you broke something on my ship I will-"
He didn’t give her a chance to finish as he clumsily and abruptly rolled out from under the dark blue ship, as he called back "Or what?” Once out from under the ship, Dib blindly reached for another grease rag to clean off his entire face and glasses.
Once the slimey, scum feeling material was vacant from his clenched shut eyes and his glasses cleaned, Dib turned to his side to send the Irken female a small glare. Although, it did little to deter her as she hovered above him, hanging ominously by her pak’s metal legs like fuming, angry, green spider.
A very feminine, amethyst eyed, and cute green spider without all of the nasty spider bits.
He shook his head. Focus Dib!
Despite her mouth poised to retort, he cut her off once more, as he continued, “If you thought I would break something, why let me help you at all?”
Her eyes widened in surprise at the retaliation, and her jaw momentarily dropped. However, he didn’t get much time to process this, nor the darkening of her cheeks as she quickly turned her head away.
“I don’t have to explain my decisions to *you*. Now get back to work.”
Dib rolled his eyes as she looked away like she always did, frowning as he wiped the rest of the gunk off, especially around his mouth.
His eyes narrowed at her busy form, pak glinting in the pale yellow, florescent lighting of the lone garage light. Did he see what he…no it couldn’t be. Dib shook his head to dispel the foolish, hopeful, boy-child thoughts. Those years were long gone by now, yet a few stray thoughts remained. Particularly, his once-upon-a-time crush.
Well…
Leaning his elbows on his bent knees, he looked over at her once more to see her bent over the pile of slabs of metal. A particularly, and surprisingly, round part of her backside anatomy caught his eye.
Okay…maybe his boyhood crush wasn’t as far gone as he would like himself to believe, but that didn’t change the fact that she probably didn’t feel the same.
He pouted and glanced away, shutting off and tossing the head lamp to the side.
“You…” She started, causing him to swivel his head back to her instantly. She seemed a bit perturbed, hesitating, as his warm, brown eyes met hers, before quickly regaining her composure as she quietly continued, “You didn’t get anything in your mouth, right?”
Dib gawked at her a moment, stunned. Maybe…maybe it wasn’t so impossible. Maybe she-
His thought process wasn’t allowed to go any further as she scowled, arms crossed beneath and unintentionally pushing up her “growths” as she called them.
Unintentionally noticing that, the once cool, autumn air turned scorching, like he was back under the ship again, surrounded him. Trying to lead attention to his hand and away from the heat he felt in his cheeks, Dib missed entirely what she said.
“I’m sorry, what was that?”
At this she huffed at him, hands moving to rest on her hips, as she snapped, “I said because you better not die on me! Do you know how hard that would be to explain medically; not to mention legally!”
Plucking a small, old flashlight from a pile of junk, Dib rolled his eyes. A storm cloud of thoughts tumbled through his mind, before he realized she was on her pak legs again. Tak loomed closer now. Just to the right of him as she placed a few slabs of metal plating in a row across the ship’s right flank.
He sighed once more and simply put the tiny flashlight between his teeth. With a few unintelligible mutterings, Dib rolled back beneath the ship, wrench in hand.
Meanwhile, with Tak, she grumbled to herself about fools and their carelessness as she started to weld the plates in place. With careful, practiced grace, her pak legs moved her over to her right a step or two. The only sound of her movement being the barely discernible tinking noises. Something that was easy to miss within the comfortable silence that enveloped them; not to mention, easy to miss while underneath an Irken Spittle Runner while wrenching things.
“Oh shit! I forgot to grab the Irken insta-soddering tape for the tube,” Dib exclaimed as he suddenly shot himself out from under the ship.
Dib barely had time to register in his mind that he fucked up when he felt his long, gangly legs abruptly smack into a set of silvery, metal ones.
For the second time that night, Dib found the wind knocked out of his lungs, but this time accompanied by a surprised and brief screech. His eyes clenched shut partially from the sudden impact of a weight onto his chest, but also from the fear of what was to come next.
However, after a few heartbeats, nothing happened. Finding this odd, Dib carefully opened his eyes to find Tak glaring, stunned, and holding the front of her tunic down. That last part was just a tad strange, almost as strange as the dark emerald color dusting across her cheeks. Although, it wasn’t that strange if you considered the fact that she landed practically right in front of his face!
Her knees were crammed underneath his armpits, shoving his arms above his head. If he were to sit up at any slight amount and or leaned his head forward, she would probably feel his breath ghost across the white-knuckled grip.
In that moment, Dib stared up at her, and she stared back, as his mind completely blanked. Well, blank on anything that wasn’t her literally on top of him, being so close, and the reflection in the garage window of his absolutely crimson face.
Suddenly, his brain caught up with the situation, and did the appropriate, instinctual thing to do.
Panic.
“Holy smokes! Tak I’m so-” Dib exclaimed as he abruptly shot up without almost a second thought. Almost because his thoughts finally started to catch up with him as he saw Tak flung from his chest into his lap. Her momentum kept her going, and her upper body would’ve smacked into the floor between his legs. However, two important things happened that sent electricity throughout the both of them.
The first being Dib’s instinct to reach out to her, hooking his hand onto her lower hip to steady her. Unfortunately, this didn’t fully stop the momentum of the upper body, but fortunately she wasn’t as surprised this time as she slightly twisted and caught herself with a hand placed upon his right thigh. Her hand was placed somewhat behind her, so she was left to lean back, and both of her legs were sprawled on either side of his hips.
Dib cursed himself for his clumsy recklessness, but a part of him was fine with this. Didn’t mind the sight of her flushed and sprawled like this on top of him in a position more innocent than the last, even if it was an accident, but also a bit more…vulnerable? No that wasn’t the word. Open?
Yeah that seemed more appropriate.
Not that he had more time to dwell on it because with Tak’s sudden shift in weight towards him, he remembered why he didn’t listen to this part of himself because it clearly had a death wish.
However, as Tak moved forward, fist moved back, twisting his shirt as she pulled him forward, he felt something as she shifted her hips and legs.
Something shifted beneath the fabric of her tunic in a way that caught him off guard. Completely blind to the danger at hand, so preoccupied with what this shift in fabric, and in some parts lack thereof, beneath his thumb pad meant, all thoughts on common sense left the building as he quizzically blurted in disbelief.
“Thigh highs?”
He hadn’t meant anything by it. It was just so strange to him, especially when he never noticed before! Had they always been there? Were they something new? But why wear them here of all places? Here, wear they could easily get stained, torn, ruined?
Oh well, he pouted as he rubbed his, now, sore cheek from where she slapped him.
He watched her retreating, holographic form from the garage entrance as she marched across the backyard towards their backdoor. He expected her to keep going and going and not stop until she reached her base.
However, as she reached the backdoor she started to lose momentum. By the time she reached it, hand upon the door knob, she came to a gradual halt. Slowly, she glanced back at the garage, at him, again. The blush upon her cheeks still present. In fact, it got darker as her eyes widened ever so slightly, as if she hadn’t expected him to be there, watching her leave.
For a moment, he watched her composure slip for the briefest of seconds as she suddenly grew flustered. Although, as quickly as it appeared, it vanished and her all-too-familiar glare returned.
With would-be-nose pointed in the air, she swiftly turned away with a hmph, and left through the door. Shortly afterwards he heard the front door open and slam shut, and with that she was gone. It took a few moments for Dib to comprehend what he just saw, but slowly, a knowing grin spread across his face as he shut the garage for the night, and headed into the house for bed.
