Seeing the drama around The Amazing Digital Circus and remembering when it started at the tail end of the Dispatch discourse, its funny to see how the trope of
"Mean bully character who acts absolutely horrible to everyone else has a petty reason to be bad, and has their faults never really called out without being excused." hasn't been done a lot, but boy, did it get old fast
Everything Cait has been accused of doing, Jinx literally did.
"Cait gassed the entire city of Zaun" when she only used the grey against the chembarons, and there is a difference between using chemical warfare against Pablo Escobar and a random Colombian village.
Meanwhile, Jinx did a city wide attack on Piltover by releasing the grey on everyone, indiscriminately.
People said that Cait could have hurt Isha or kill her when she tried to shoot Jinx, while we see children with reddened eyes and needing masks to help themselves breath after Jinx's attack.
Jinx has killed Firelights, enforcers who didn't do anything wrong, firebombed the city of Piltover multiple times, kidnapped a naked Cait from her bathroom, ect.
And here is the thing- I'm not saying Cait was completely guiltless. She has done bad things, and I'm not saying I'm all on board using chemical warfare against people like Escobad or Al Capone, and her taking that more authoritarian role against Zaun to catch Jinx is bad.
But why is Arcane now being labelled as "Copaganda" for having Cait being a sympathetic character, but not "Terroistanda" or something with showing Jinx to be sympathetic when she has done a lot worse than Cait?
I don't recall the show ever saying that what Jinx or what Cait did was okay or justified, but people act like it does?

As someone who has been sexually harassed, touched inappropriately and had someone barge into the bathroom stall I was in, I don't think I can like Dispatch for how it makes light on sexual harassment happening to men.
Though I have already dropped the game, I will share my own opinion regarding Dipatch and how the characters in the game are victims of being written by men who do not take the sexual harassment and assault seriously if it is done to men.
Invisigal would be a hated character if she was a man.
Imagine a man following a hsirtles sowman into the bathroom, told her about a sex dream he had of her, and revealed he had been stalking her the whole day without her knowledge. Imagine if that same man pushed a woman to the wall and began kissing her without giving her time to even realise what he was doing, and didn't wait until he had her consent.
That's exactly what Invisigal did. And yet, she is one of the most popular characters in the game. Mineta from My Hero Academia is rightfully hated for trying to be a peeping tom. Invisigal IS a peeping tom and forced a kiss on someone and is liked.
And that is only because she's a woman, and there's a big problem with society not caring if a woman is a pervert. Malevola goes up and pats Robert's privates, and that's played for laughs.
And I know people are going to say, "She's a reforming villain, of course, she's gonna be bad. Flambae tried to kill Robert when he revealed he was Mechaman. Why aren't you complaining about that?"
That doesn't mean what she is doing is okay. And there is actually a difference with how the game treats Flambae acting like a bastard. And it's that we aren't asked to support that.
Whenever Flambae misbehaves, he is reprimanded and receives his comeuppance from Robert and the others. But when it comes to Invisigal being creepy, the game frames what she is doing as weird, but not wrong.
In fact, with the Bathroom scene, the dialogue options either show complete apathy to her creepy, stalking behaviour or show interest, like what she's doing is desirable. The game is clearly telling you that what she is doing isn't bad and is actually attractive.
And people will say that, "You are playing as Robert, and he doesn't care."
Okay. Why was he written as not caring? You think Dispatch is the first piece of media where the harassment or assault of that character is shown to not be evil, and that character doesn't mind? Ever heard of 'Revenge Of The Nerds'?
Dispatch has a serious problem with how it frames perverted acts and how they aren't issues if the perpetrator is a woman and the victim is a man.
By this point, if I see someone claim Cait gassed random civilians in Zaun and not the in-universe the Chembarons, I am NOT listening to what they have to say about the show.
Really sucks how my favourite show gets criticism for things that didn't happen.
Wait, what are you talking about though? Caitlyn is the only one with access to mass weaponizing the grey through the Kiramman key because her family was responsible for building them. Where did the chembarons gas anyone, other than the scene with Silco gassing the other chembarons with the grey?
Misunderstanding, could have worded it better.
What I meant to say was "Caitlyn used the grey in a pin point operation against the Chembarons, she didn't use indiscriminate chemical warfare on the entire city."
The show showed this and the writers had to come out and say it, but people are still claiming Cait used the grey on random people, and not the Al Capone's of Zaun. Now we can discuss the ethical ramifications of using chemical warfare even if they were mobs. But don't twist it and act like she threw mustard gas in an orphanage.

Arcane is One Piece for Brazilians
I know it's important to keep up with what's happening in Palestine, but I think there is only do much dead children I can see.
I think Cait's arc was well done.
Cait from the start was pretty obvious to be someone who never met a Zaunite, but was still sympathetic to them and believed in the equality between them and Piltover.
And even after Jinx did so much damage and death- killing enforcers, stealing valuable and dangerous property, kidnappijg her naked when she was in the shower, tormented her in that table scene, killing her own mother and other council members in the most brutal terrorist attack in years, Cait did nothing but excuse Zaun and know not to take any rash actions. But after the attack by Renni and it showed after that a lot of Zaunites were in support of Jinx and her actions, and after Vi stopped Cait from catching/killing Jinx or brutality capturing her, all she was left with was mournful rage and gave in. Here, in her lowest moments, she became what she hated.
I remember watching this and feeling despair as Cait's patience was chipped away over time, and it became harder and harder for her to make excuses.
But even then. But even then!
Those initial feelings of peace and equality that Cait had didn't go away. Even when she was angry, and depressed and enabled, her previous convictions remained true. And that's why it after she was left to watch Piltover brutalise Zaunites and doubt Ambessa, all Cait needed was Vi to come back and pull her away from that darkness.
