Just a Dream

Dave was thrust back against his wheelchair, images of the game and the other time he had felt helpless flashing through his mind as he clutched his head. Thousands off doomed timelines where he failed and watched everyone die. Opal, dead on the ground. Watching through his trickster’s eyes as he tortured Jade. He struggled to remain calm, but, when he was released from the waking nightmares, exactly 57.6 seconds later, he was hunched over, whimpering.

Dave bit his lip to silence himself, immediately controlling his fear. When he heard the man’s statement, he looked up into his yellow eyes, giving a trembling smirk. “You don’t know what your dealing with either.” he stated, a grim humor in his tone. “I’m not just some random kid. I’ve lived through much worse than a few nightmares. I’ve had worse nightmares than those ones, and dealt with bigger foes.” He was still shaking, but the fear hadn’t incapacitated him completely.

Pitch raised his brows, shaking his head in disbelief. Oh, this boy had no idea what Pitch was capable of! “I think you’re mistaken,” he grinned. “You mean to express that you’ve been through more than what I just delivered and that may be so. But what I am capable of is much more than just a simple nightmare,” he begun.

“I know of all people’s greatest fears, the source of all their worry, their nightmares, I know it all! And too, with that knowledge, I can make it true,” he spoke, his shoulders raising in a shrug. He wondered what Dave had been through, what kind of nightmares he had had, been given. He knew naught of another bringer of fear, a giver of bad dreams. He was the Boogeyman, the one and only!

He was grinning. "You don't understand. I've been through too much shit already. The nightmares hardly hurt anymore. Except for a few, and those were special." He looked aside for a moment, pain flashing over his face, before forcing himself to remain calm. "But we don't need to fight. How about we just go along on our own ways and don't bother each other?"
