The DaveNep dynamic is great because even though they never actually interact you can tell that their friendship works. They literally combine into the happiest, most fufilled character in all of Homestuck. One of the few "never spoke in canon" duos with a realistic reference to what their relationship could have been. So much of the healing and catharsis that came from the formation of Davepetasprite probably could have been achieved with some really deep talks between the two of them, fusing just sped up the process. Sometimes I like to think about them in a Ruby/Sapphire way where Davepetasprite is a single being but also the culmination of their relationship. It's not quite romantic but also not platonic, a secret third thing. They meet for the first time, insantly fuse, and everything in their lives suddenly makes sense. They complete each other.

Of course, this is in regards to Davesprite and Nepetasprite. Dave Prime has less to work through and feels more content as himself. But I still think him and Nepeta would have a near-insant connection.
