Places like twitter and Instagram remind me day by day why the metaphysical—esp the hoodoo community is overall toxic on social media. Some rootworker was basically shaming people for doing orisha readings through amazon decks. And like—I get the negative stigma around not having a deck that is hereditary or not having a deck that’s expensive or gifted to you but at the same time—not every rootowrker has familial ties. Not every root worker has the ability to ask a family member or a mentor for materials and a deck. What y’all need to realize is that a lot of new rootworkers are quite literally starting from scratch and most of us have to start rootwork in our own family and make our own path . like some of us are not hereditary rootworkers, we have to find resources where we can, get things like decks and other materials where we can and sometimes that can’t be a family member, or a mentor. Sometimes, that’s amazon, sometimes it’s etsy. And if that’ where people get their stuff from—that includes their decks-then let them. at the end of the day it doesn’t matter where you get a deck from, it matters if you can make a connection to your cards and a bond that continues to grow—and you can get that regardless of where you get your deck from. The point is, hoodoo has become so commercialized and used as clout that people all over try to be the voice and authority on it and it’s annoying. Not everyone’s hoodoo is the same—people are different, people have mentors some people don’t. some people are starting from nothing.
Remember, hoodoo is about connecting to your ancestors with what you have. our ancestors during slavery didn’t have a lot, but they still made shit work and that’s why we are here today. Shaming people for making due with what they have is the opposite of what our ancestors preached.
hey boo. im the person who made the tweet. orisha tarot readings do not exist lmfao. the orisha are thousand year old deities. they do not speak throigh tarot. where you get the deck is not the point of the tweet, but the fact that you can not use tarot for the orisha was. be blessed.
I was beginning to feel down and discouraged, because the more I try to authentically honor hoodoo, our history and culture, it is difficult for me to not compare it to other african traditional religions.
I have always noticed the similarities between the african traditional religions that were brought to South America and the Caribbean (Lucumi, Ifa, Santeria, Palo Mayombe, Voodoo) to name a few, and the dissimilarities of those paths compared to Hoodoo. I notice the same thing with black American food, dancing and music...that it’s more different, to me meaning that it’s more influenced by “Native American” culture. I use the quotes because we are the culture.
Proper research will show how many melanated indigenous peoples were “paper genocided” out of being able to claim native ancestry by just being able to be referred to by their proper ethnic name. When I was little, the first dreams I ever had of my native ancestors were showing me to never claim “African-American” on any documents. They even showed me again in a dream a few years ago. It may apply for some but not for me.
When I see how we gather and dance, I see ghost dancing and what Pow Wows “should” look like. Even in our hip hop wether you like rap or not, I can hear the chanting and a more native sounding drum. An example would be Migos-Bad and Boujee. It may sound ridiculous for me to make the comparison but intuitively that’s what I pick up on.
Overall, even though at times I get discouraged when trying to honor hoodoo authentically, I just think it takes intuition, honesty and patience to connect our own dots.
P.S. I guess my main point, is that it’s way cooler to practice an african traditional religion on the beach vs a Church with homophobic elders 😔🙃

Rules When Working With Me
Be on time. I cannot stress this one enough. When I first started, I had clients who were constantly late to readings. That is rude. you need to be mindful of my, and other rootworkers for that matter’s, energy. You will be asked to pay a late fee and you may be dropped as a client. No foolery over here.
You pay first. You pay the full amount. I won’t scam you, I send pictures and videos of workings and try to make the process easier for you. If it’s something that can be mailed, you will receive it but don’t try to play me.
Respect goes both ways. if you are a trusted client and I tell you that I may not be comfortable with performing a certain thing, then don’t belittle me. It’s simply a case of protecting my own energy.
Do not try to do your own work on top of mine, please, it can cause energies to collide and your working to fail.
For security purposes, I only take payment through Cashapp. No, I don’t use paypal or Venmo. Cashapp only. My cashapp tag with be placed at the bottom of the post.
I look forward to working with each and every one of you who trusts me enough to spread a little witchiness in their lives.

baby boomers when they hear you say “child abuse” and they’re waiting to talk about how their parents used to beat them unconscious when they were five and that’s a good thing somehow
implying boomers wait and don’t just interrupt
Not a boomer. Theres nothing wrong with corporal punishment.

What does their name have anything to do with it? You offer no logical reason for them to be wrong, and clearly you dont understand what bondage is, and likely dont know anything about their preferences.
Try offering a logical reason that their statement is wrong.

CALLING ALL SPIRITUAL FOLK!!!
Hey there! My name is Davey and I’m a young rootworker in Mississippi! I’ve been doing this practice for about a year now and my ancestors agreed that it’s time for me to offer my spiritual services! I started off doing playing card readings but now I do spiritual work for people!! I’ve been told that I’m an amazing reader. Even @itsjujubae herself (creator of A Little Juju Podcast) agrees! If you would like to inquire about readings or spellwork please DM me on instagram or on here! Thank you so much! Aśe!
hey y’all! so update. i currently have a WOPPING 777 FOLLOWERS!!! this makes me so happy! i LOOOOOOVVEEEE the fact that i have so many people around me who look to me for advice and readings and spiritual work. thank you for constantly reblogging and sharing this post. KEEP DOIN IT BITCH!!!! hit up @rootworkin.davey on instagram
Thank you, @ blimpeh on Twitter for this warning! ZERO TOLERANCE FOR TERFs and transphobes. Also don’t exclude male and non-binary witches! That’s not the witch way.
😭😭😭😭this witchcraft book centered around women and not my star starself pronouns whatever will we dooooooo
Also catch me excluding all the sobbing males from witchcraft
oh my god I love her.
I WANT THIS BOOK NOW
Imagine being this excited about bigotry, sexism, and transphobia🤢
Imagine being this disgusted by women celebrating something being made for only us and the opportunity to celebrate the divinity of our female bodies through witchcraft 🙄
Sometimes things are only for female people ffs not everything has to include dick or dick owners or dick worshippers. If you dont like female only paths, dont fucking practice one, and leave the rest of us the fuck alone
Good thing witchcraft/magic/magical spirituality isn’t only for women you absolute NUTJOB!
Men, women, non-binary, and trans people have been practicing magic and spirituality for centuries. Hell I’d say since the beginning of magic and time!
Your path {Dianic Wicca} is made from a religion {Wicca} that was made
BY
A
MAN!!!!
If you are so bigoted and hateful then you have no place in the magical community or using spiritual paths made by men for everyone🤷🏾♀️
It’s Witchy Season™, however...
If you’re not black, I don’t want to see you appropriating Hoodoo/Conjure/Rootwork or Vodoun/Voodoo on my dashboard
White folks: slave syncretic religions that provided liberation for a people your ancestors oppressed is NOT an aesthetic. They are absolutely off limits to you. DO. NOT. TOUCH. IT.
