Dave frowned, unsure of what to do. It wasn't like he could take the kid back to his house. He just...wasn't good enough with kids, or at least he didn't think he was. He couldn't let the child know that he wasn't sure what to do.

"Well...maybe I can take you to the police station and maybe they can help you find a place that's safe to stay."

Hal watched the scavenger run away. He looked back up at Dave with a new found awe in his ruby eyes. He hugged Dave’s leg tighter no longer out of fear but of thanks. And possibly some warmth too. ” Th-Thank you mister…” He squeaked.

"You're welcome," he said with a slight smile. "You should probably get going home soon. There's supposed to be a bad storm tonight and your parents are probably wondering where you are."

Hal gasped as he looked up at the man. Drenched and shaking the little boy shook his head. He ran behind Dave and held onto his leg, seeking protection from whatever had knocked over the bin.

He looked towards the alleyway where the noise had come from. Moving with the little bit of legroom he had he walked to the entrance of the alleyway and gently pushed the trashcan foreward.

In an instant a raccoon scurried out of the garbage with a crumpled chip bag in it's mouth. It stared at Dave and the boy before running away into the darkness.

A young boy sits out in a dark alley way. Scared, cold and alone his hugs his legs for a little bit of warmth. His teeth chatter as he looks up at the drizzling sky. He jumps as he hears a trash can fall over and runs into the open sidewalk nearby.

Dave was walking out of the convenience store as quickly as he could to get back to his car. He had to park it a little ways down the street due to other parking spots being occupied already.

As he walked down the sidewalk he heard what sounded like a garbage can being knocked over. He assumed it was a stray cat or a raccoon. He ended up for a surprise when a boy ran out onto the sidewalk almost running into him. Dave froze in place for a moment, staring at the boy for a moment before speaking. “
