Day 56. Donât Wait, Time is Flying, Just Get Started.
Day 56 of 2018.
Itâs how I start every journal entry of every day. If you donât have a journal try Day One. Or a regular old book will do. A journal is a constant reminder of how fast the days are going and that I need to make some progress towards my goals everyday because the days are numbered and we donât know how many we have left.

Winter Olympics 2018: Prince Hohenlohe Retires, Where is the Pamchenko?
Whenever the Winter Olympics comes around I think of 2 things:
Prince Hubertus Von Hohenlohe, the founding member of the MEXICAN Winter Olympic Team. Everyone knows who he is! I guess at 59 years old he is finally retired and this will be the last time I get to write about him. That is unless he comes back in 4 years at the age of 63! Highly unlikely.
I previously wrote about him in 2014 hereâŠ

Just finished a marathon work week of working 7 days straight. I was all over the place! Had to document this for my records because my new systems have helped me be more productive, allowed me to make sure I got the right amount of rest, nutrition, time to reflect and playtime, all within my budget.

This year I made a conscious decision to implement a system to tie all my systems together. I needed a system that would help me set goals and keep me focused on them, which is where my new planner steps inâŠ
The Full Focus Planner
This is not an app but a physical planner where you can keep your priorities in clear view and achieve what matters every day, designed for high achievers.
The Tutorial Videos are here and they cover:
Goals
Rolling Quarters (not rolls of quarters)
Daily Rituals
Weekly Big 3
Weekly Review
Weekend Optimizers (Great Idea!)
Here are some shots of the planner:
I started using this system last year but it has really taken off this year. The system will keep you focused. If you really get into it there are additional systems that will help you set goals and create a life plan.
Again, I say this on practically every posting where I recommend something, You get what you pay for. I pay, this is not a plug. These are quarterly planners at about $37.50 each. So far, I have to say the investment is paying off very well.
A Planner with Weekend Optimizers⊠Great Idea! This year I made a conscious decision to implement a system to tie all my systems together.
Do You Get Enough Sleep? I Hope So. If Not Keep ReadingâŠ
I am in the process of working on a system of getting the optimum amount of sleep. It starts with setting up the iPhone and letting it know when I would like to get up every morning which is different than just setting an alarm.
When you go into the clock app on the iPhone you go to the tab labeled âBEDTIMEâ. Set this for 8 hours before you want to wake up. 9 pm to 5 am is 8 hrs of sleep. This setting will remind you when to go to bed for the required 8 hrs of sleep you will need.
Now, wear that Apple Watch to bed if you have one. The Apple watch can monitor your sleep cycle and will gently wake you up with a vibration at the time you would like to get up every morning. After a while (a month or so), your sleep cycle will be set.
Curious as to how you are recharging?
I use an app called AutoSleep. I check it every morning to see how I recharged overnight. This is an excellent tool. I find I donât need 8 hrs of sleep, I am fine on 7 but if I block out 8 hours I will get anywhere from 5.5. to 7 hrs of sleep and anywhere from 45 mins to 2 hours of deep sleep. The days I get 5 or 6 hours of sleep I can schedule a nap to recover.
Here are some screenshots:
As we get older it is important we recharge those batteries correctly.

The most important tool you use every day, possibly first thing in the morning and the last thing at night, is your calendar. Some people neglect it, some people overdo it (I may be in the latter) but the calendar was a system that I wanted to upgrade this year.
For years I used the standard calendar app that comes with your Mac and iPhone, I then stepped up to a paid calendar like Fantastical, which worked out just fine for a bit.
As life got busier and I needed something a little more I found BusyCal. Actually, I found BusyCal while looking for a very powerful contacts manager for myself called BusyContacts. I loved the BusyContacts software so much that I purchased BusyMac, which is both BusyCal and BusyContacts.
Not a plug, I do use the software, they are new members of my systems to help manage my calendar and contacts. Again, you get what you pay for. Of course, there is a free trial. Purchase the software together and you get a 20% discount.
Here are some screenshots:
Some of the features I love are:
the ability to add commuting times to events so that time is blocked out
Weather report directly on the date, 10 days in advance.
Post it notes just like on a real calendar
Journal entries
A powerful Calendar App should be part of every personâs system. This one works for me just fine.
Bonus: The Featured Image is here if you would like to use it as your wallpaper. When you need a calendar handy at all times this works great!
What Do Calendars Eat? Dates! Mine Needs a Healthy Diet! The most important tool you use every day, possibly first thing in the morning and the last thing at night, is your calendar.
Here is another part of my series regarding systems. This one is for monitoring the poison we inadvertently put into our bodies. I donât plan on being a foodie or health nut blogger, just introduce a system you can use to monitor the food you eat. Itâs what I am using to reach my goal of finding more energy this year.
Ever wonder what the food you are eating is doing to your body?
Big Mac, Large Fries, and a Medium Coke
1300 mg of Sodium, 66 grams of Sugar. Your body can safely process 2600mg of sodium a day and 90 grams of sugar. But donât take my word for it. Iâm just regurgitating information from the McDonaldâs website. They have a âNutritional Calculatorâ posted here.
Chik-Fil-A Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Waffle Fries, and a Sweet Tea
2000mg of sodium, 37 grams of sugar. Itâs REALLY good but it will kill you. I actually ate this⊠a lot! You can download a Nutritional Menu here.
I know, youâre a vegetarian. This article is not for you. Move along.
Amyâs Veggie Combo Pizza
1 serving, 680mg of sodium, no potassium, 10mg of protein (you need 120mg for the day). That pizza is actually 3 servings, you just ate 2040mg of sodium. I told you, vegetarians, move along.
MyFitnessPal is a Food Diary, a system you can use to track everything you eat. With this, you can tell if you are getting too much sodium and sugar which can be toxic to the body in large doses. You can also track if you are getting enough of your daily vitamins, potassium, fiber, protein, and carbs. Most people will need a multivitamin.
Here are some screenshots:
Get yourself a smart scale. And an Apple watch. With these tools, you can track your activity and weight. All the info will port to your MyFitnessPal dashboard. You now have a simple dashboard for your health. Baby steps people, Baby steps.
There is a free 1 month trial of the premium version. There is an iPhone app. You can use the camera to scan barcodes of foods you are eating. Itâs so easy! Try it. Itâs an eye opener and may change your life.
