Here’s my new painting ‘The Insidious Whisper’.
David Denton is an English artist specialising in dark fantasy paintings with a nightmarish quality.
Check out my blog post about one of my influences, the films of Lucio Fulci.
Inspired by some "Destiny" concept art. Hope it's going to be an amusing game.
Love the fragility of this image, Web city by DinoDrawing.
A Good Day
It's been a good day. It's been the moment when "I don't know what I'm doing with this painting." has changed to "This is going to work". My plans looked really duff yesterday and now I'm pretty happy.
Recently rewatched Earthquake just for Albert Whitlock's matte shots. He's an unsung genius of films.
Finished my next painting today. I'll live with it for a couple of weeks before posting it. Here's one last teaser:
Lucio Fulci is best known for his gore. His extreme gore. I'm more influenced by his atmospheric landscapes. This one is gorgeous. Just look at that fog and that lighting.
I don't often use the word 'amazing', but this is. It's called Water Flame and it's by Jeppe Hein. I saw it at Houghton Hall when I was on holiday.
Been out this morning shooting reference materials for my next painting. A dog walker commented on the miserableness of the day. I agreed. Secretly I was getting a bit giddy at the idea of fog and ruins. I know. Sad.
Here's the last of the sneak peeks for my next painting. It should be finished in the next two weeks, then I'll have to live with it for a while. But it will be revealed soon...
I’m a sucker for anything misty, but even so this is beautifully done. It’s by Goro Fujita and it’s called Encounter. For more of Goro’s work visit: http://gorosart.deviantart.com/gallery/
When I started painting full time, I said that I wouldn’t paint at weekends. This pesky translucent material has given me a few problems, resulting in me - funnily enough - working at the weekend to solve some niggly issues. I’m happy with the results though, so here’s a little four inch square teaser of my next painting.
Just seen this gorgeous painting by Artem Rhads Cheboha called At World's End. Look at that sky...

Here is a sneak peak of a small section of my next painting. This is a work in progress so things may change.
The Pride/Fall Combo
I’ve been painting some translucent fabric today. The background was already done so all I had to do was build up the material with glazes and then add some highlights. The first piece of fabric went surprisingly well and I was very impressed with myself. Cockily, I cracked on with the next bit.
Oh dear. I messed up the highlights and it all looks badly wrong. Now I’ve got to repaint the background (probably two hours work) and start again.
The lesson learned: never get cocky.
New Website
My website is now up and running. It’s taken me a fair while to sort it all out. I just need to get cracking and get some more content for it. So I better get back to working on my second painting in The Seven Gates series. I will post a little teaser soon... http://www.daviddentonart.com/
