So very proud and humbled that the NGO I founded in 2018 to help victims of injustice, inequality and human rights abuse has been nominated for a National Diversity Award in the category of Community Organisations - Multi Strand. This is all the more meaningful for myself as it’s 8 years last week since I left Leeds United, was Human trafficked to Dubai, set up by those I once trusted, unlawfully jailed, tortured and raped. It was these terrifying, horrific events, that bad people thought would break me, but they didn’t and instead made my resolve to fight for justice and human rights stronger than ever and that led me to set up Detained International. I want to thank our amazing dedicated team of volunteers and supporters especially @petermargetts @wanderingfinn and Jordan Schnieder for their never ending support, invaluable experience, knowledge, advice, passion and kindness they have given to the brave victims of injustice whom we support, but also to our great team and myself. 2021 was a year of immense achievements for us, from opening a US office to seeing Princess Latifa freed from her Dubai jail where she had been held hostage for 3 years.
