It was a total blast being behind the scenes with The Impractical Jokesters as they filmed the first episode of their new season. We had to be completely incognito due to the fact that we were shooting before and after they were filming their supermarket stunts. The only place where we could set up out of view from shoppers was of course the loading dock next to the trash compactors. In between shooting the cover and inside spread we got to hang out behind the scenes during filming and listen in on the live action. We also got to enjoy the privileges of being part of their crew such as unlimited energy drinks, sugary snacks and headache pills. Thanks so much Judith Puckett-Rinella for the awesome assignment!

Last month I traveled to Waco,Texas to shoot the stars of the HGTV show “The Fixer Uppers” for the cover of Entrepreneur magazine. It was the kind of shoot that represents what really excites me about photography: getting to a location and figuring it out and making a space transform. The morning of the shoot I woke up at home in Brooklyn, hopped on the plane in Queens and landed in Dallas 3 hours later. Before arriving at the house in Waco that would be our set for the day we had no idea what it would look like. As we pulled up and started to look around we discovered that there was a hole in the middle of the main house. I had never seen this before, but then again I have never gutted and rebuilt a house.To my surprise the house was also already fully wired. We set up our lights, managing to avoid various obstacles such as the holes in the floors and coils of electrical cables. The shoot lasted less than an hour but we managed to squeeze in 4 different setups.Chip and Joanna were great to work with, they managed to stay in the moment and weren't even fazed by some of their kids running through the set playing tag. I want to thank Judith from Entrepreneur magazine for trusting me to do what I do!

Recently I went to Connecticut to shoot Analyst Howard Penney of Hedgeye. As my assistant and I pulled in to their loading dock we had no idea what to expect as far as location.From the outside it seemed like a typical office building,sterile and non-descriptive ! Once inside,I found a decent wood wall,which i always consider to be a safe shot,then while working through their space I came across a row of meeting rooms.First I was attracted to the fact that they were all different colors,then I noticed the themes that they had.There was a democrat room and republican room as well as a room dedicated the inventors and the founding fathers of our country.There were so many options, but I only had a few minutes to shoot.First I went for the safe wood wall,then I went for the republican room(I am always a sucker for a red wall !) Then i went to the founding father room,which in the center is a large Ben Franklin portrait and the plan was to get him to mimic the expression in the painting.While we rushed our lights from the red room over to the green room Howard struck the pose in the photo above and I did something totally out of character and starting shooting natural light! I was feeling satisfied and the lights never made it into the room.I had to include the portrait of Alexander Hamilton just because my daughter is obsessed with him !!!

Dream assignment for Down East Magazine

I'm very proud of this story for Down East Magazine. It was the kind of dream assignment that happens when editors just send you off and give you as much space as you need to create and capture what happens along the way. During the past year I have been switching gears with my photography in an effort to connect it with my personal passion for the outdoors and being on the sea.
