beneun:
Ben stared at Davin in silence taking long drinks. He was a little taken aback at his words not because it was true but the way Davin had said it was a tad bit nasty. He sighed very softly and decided to look up at the ceiling instead. It was a habit since he was a child, anytime anyone scolded him he couldn’t bare to look at them. He was always in the wrong, “I know Davin. I know I fucked up so bad. I know it’s not much of an excuse but I wasn’t really being myself when the whole situation went down.” he snorted at the mention of the fight, “I mean, I can’t say I’m surprised they told you,”
Ben sat up immediately his defensive side slowing creeping it’s way into his head as Davin’s question rung through his head “but why are you even back?” “What kind of question is that?” he shook his head in disbelief, “Are you trying to say that the only reason I came back was solely because of Peyton?” Ben stared at him hard as his brain started clicking pieces together, “Wait a second, are you jealous?”
Davin felt Ben’s eyes on him as he averted his gaze, focusing his eyes on the condensation on bottle in his hands instead. After a few moments, Davin looked towards Ben only to find his eyes focused on the ceiling. He was far too familiar with this action from Ben and for a moment, he felt guilty for even bringing him to the point of not wanting to look at him. But the guilt diminished once his beer was at his lips again and Ben admitted that he screwed up. Davin rolled his eyes at Ben’s remark towards Peyton filling them in on the fight that they had with Ben. “I just hate seeing them hurt, Ben, and I hate that you had to be the one to do it. I wish I could say that I wish you would have hurt me just as bad instead. But I know they would still be hurt from your actions towards me, as I am with you, so it wouldn’t make this situation better.” He sighed, finishing off the last remains of his beer before heading off into the kitchen to open another, completely ignoring if Ben was in need of another.
“It’s a reasonable question. You leave with a bullshit reason, don’t speak to either of us the whole time you’re gone, and then randomly show up like everything is okay. Were you really expecting us to accept you back with open arms and hold on to you? I mean, it kind of seems like you’re only back here because of Peyton, which is fine, I guess. I’ll get over that if it’s true.” Davin shrugged. As the words left Ben’s mouth, Davin nearly choked on the sip of his beer that he immediately regretted taking. He ran his hand along his mouth, collecting the excess liquid that escaped his lips in the process of nearly choking. “Jealous?” His laugh that followed was cynical, as was the look on his face. “Jealous, Ben?” He repeated as if the word burned his tongue. “Of course I would be jealous if you were only come back here for Peyton. You’re my best friend, you’re supposed to want me too. I have no other reason to be jealous, I don’t care that you have feelings for Peyton.” His lip was captured between his teeth as he sucked in a breath of air, immediately regretting his actions once more. In the moment, he hated Ben for even suggesting that he would be jealous. What other reason would he have to be jealous? He wasn’t jealous, he was sure of it. Though if he truly wasn’t jealous, he wouldn’t be questioning it or hating Ben for bringing it up. “Fucking hell, Ben,” He huffed out, annoyed, into the bottle opening.
