(Belated) Intro post.

-Hi I’m dawhat. You can call me daw!!! I’m 18 yrs old and I’m from the U.S.

I’ve always had the idea that Asriel’s soul shattering meant that (by the mechanics of Boss Monster growth) he was literally incapable of growing up as Flowey. This dialogue from Gerson is where the idea comes from.

So, because his parents don’t age, Flowey is no longer taking their magic, and therefore he remains in the same developmental stage as when he died. This means that the ending of the game represents a more figurative “growing up,” as Flowey is ready to move on from resetting. But once again, physiologically, he still stuck as a kid. Here is where my crack theory/explanation comes in. I like to imagine that when Flowey absorbed every monster soul in the Underground (which includes his parents), he “reconnected” to Asgore’s and Toriel’s souls.

As a consequence, he is able to begin siphoning their magic, and thus resume the process of aging, along with his parents (yay!). I don’t think this entails him magically proofing his goat body back into existence, or miraculously solving all of his emotional/psychological issues, but I do think that it means he can acclimate to the surface and maybe live a fulfilling life with his family (whoever you want that to include). He’s got a lot of problems for sure, but I think he deserves the chance to move on and grow up :(
