“Why do parents feel the need to be embarrassing every single time that they get the chance?” Minnie groaned, as she watched her umma talking to a few of the other parents. She’d exited the conversation about the time that the baby pictures had been brought out. She was ecstatic that her umma was being more social than she’d been in quite some time, but did it have to be at her expense? “Anyway, at least the food is delicious. That always seems to be the one thing these events get right.” ( @luxorstarters​ )

Damian listened to the other as she complained about being embarrassed. He understood, after all, it was only the natural thing for parents to do. It only showed how much they cared about their kids, he knew that. But still, at what cost? “I think it’s just natural for parents to do that.” He pointed out. “If they don’t embarrass you, do they even love you?” He said, a small chuckle escaping his lips. At her change of subject, he nodded his head. “That is... very true. I think if the food sucked I wouldn’t even bother showing up. Not worth the... 20 something hour flight. I don’t even remember.”

Caroline always enjoyed making conversation with others and her attempt to make conversation with one of the people who were serving appetizers did not go well. They simply smiled politely at her and walked away. It was an odd interaction, almost like they weren’t allowed to make conversation with the guests, which made sense. She figured that talking to the parents could get the workers in trouble but she still found the environment to be a bit stiff. She searched the room to find Elijah and spotted him before telling him about her experience, the both of them agreeing with one another and chuckling about it to themselves. They then wondered if this was a normal thing even when the parents weren’t around and so she called over the closest student which happened to be Alfie. 

“Excuse me, young man.” The use of the words young man caused a chuckle to escape her husband’s lip and she questioned why she was speaking so formally, holding back a laugh herself. “Are the staff and workers around here usually so stiff? Or is it just like that because of family weekend?” She asked curiously.

 “Can’t believe I woke up with a headache and the taste of ashes in my moyth on my own fucking BIRTHDAY,” Alfie grumbled over his plate of lunch, which was technically his breakfast since he’d woken up pretty late. “I get that these fuckers don’t like spoiled rich kids - believe me, I don’t like them either - but why should the rest of us broke hoes SUFFER, as well?”

Dawn was sitting next to Alfie as they ate lunch, figuring she’d spend lunch with him for his birthday. Her treat. As he complained, she empathized with him. It did suck, surely, but frankly enough she was fine. She got out of there pretty quickly. It was almost as if it hadn’t happened for her. “How can I help to make the rest of your day be even better? I can’t have you be grump on your birthday.”

She wasn’t really interested in flirting at the moment and deep down she knew exactly the reason why, it has a name and a weird english accent. “You know what we should do? Have breakfast at different places each weekend and then elect our favorite. We’ll analyze everything they have to offer, from looks and hot waiters to food and drinking options.”

“I think they are, personally. This isn’t my first time in France, but I’ve never been to Orleans before.” She admitted honestly. “I think you need to talk to them for sure, they have their charms.” Dawn spoke as the two walked. Hearing Juliet’s suggestions, Dawn turned to her with an excited grin. “Oh! I love that idea, yes!” She exclaimed happily. “Do you know how to speak French?” She asked her roommate curiously.
